4 College Freshman

Transportation: We have a train station within walking distance. The airport is an hour away so it can be a hassle to get there. We have lots of buses like magus that comes to campus everyday and can take you to major cities.

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: huge variety of dining restaurants, all types of cuisine. Some are very reasonable such as burgers, asian and pizza.

3 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: The guys think the selection of girls on campus is really great. My brother says this school is full of hot girls. Thankfully, no one is too preppy or conceited but there are some dumb blonds….

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: There are so many places off campus to eat and it's all within walking distance. We have the best of all foods, whether you're in the mood for Mexican, Chinese, or breakfast.

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: A lot of students here drink and smoke. There aren't serious drugs on campus though which is a good thing. Alcohol is extremely prevalent on campus and easy to get.

4 College Freshman

Local Area: Newark is a small town but there is so much to do on campus and around campus. There's Main St which is where a lot of people hang out in their free time. The mall is easily accessible by public bus and the beach is around 40 minutes away.

Greek Life: Greek life isn't a huge thing here. Guys join frats just so it's easier to get into parties and girls join just for the social aspect. There are no snobs or greek chapters that especially stand out. Almost all of them have houses but some are pretty far from campus.

Health & Safety: There are always police officers around if needed and the university makes sure students are aware of this. We have emergency boxes all over campus in case something happens and there are public safety students who walk around campus at night. I feel very safe and there haven't been any problems. There is also an alert system where the police will send everyone text messages and emails if something happens.

Overall Experience: I absolutely love my school! There is so much to do and I love the campus. It's beautiful and there are so many different clubs and places to go. I'm never bored. The people here are also very nice. I haven't had problems with anyone and everyone is respectful. We're a community and it shows.

2 College Freshman

Athletics: We aren't really known for sports. The only sport that people are interested in is football and the team isn't that great.

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: There is pretty much no space and it's not the cleanest or nicest dorm buildings. However, the social aspect outweighs all the negatives. My floor is like my family and we all get along really well. I can't imagine living anywhere else.

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: It is a lot better than high school so I can't really complain but I miss home made meals.

4 College Freshman

Party Scene: There is always transportation and the buses are constantly running. On weekends, all you have to do is walk and you will find a party. Main St is a lot of fun as well and there's always something to do.

3 College Freshman

Parking: The parking garages are nice, but they're unnecessarily expensive.

4 College Freshman

Local Area: Main Street is the answer to all boredom problems.

Technology: There is always wi-fi EVERYWHERE. And there are so many computers on campus to use.

Transportation: I would say UD has the best shuttle service around.

4 College Freshman

Drug Safety: I haven't seen anyone actually doing it, but you can tell by looking at people that they've been doing it recently.

3 College Freshman

Majors: Admission is expensive. The application process is only long if you're not prepared.

3 College Freshman

Majors: Most aren't paid anymore, and students tend to get overworked.

4 College Freshman

Weather: It rains a lot in Newark, but it doesn't really affect anything. Most of the days are still sunny and nice.

2 College Freshman

Scholarships: I feel like they almost just don't want to give you aid at all. It is such a hassle that I am still struggling to deal with.

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: All the dorms are different. Some are really nice but others are just icky.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: There are SO MANY housing options off campus, but the cost is not always low enough for students to live off of.

By the end of their years here, most students look back and are happy with their choice. They've received a good education and generally met some people with whom they will keep in touch for many years in "real" life. This love of the school comes about gradually for many students. While some students love it automatically and fit in easily with the relatively homogenous campus, others take longer to find their place and truly start to enjoy themselves.

While many students have a slow start here at Delaware, they all report that once they decided to give it a chance, they found their experience rewarding both academically and socially. This University tends to provide a nice balance between a social life and an academic one. There is always plenty of time to hang out and get your work done, so no matter what you are interested in, you have a chance to get it all done. This is the major benefit of attending the University of Delaware.
