Local Area: Great main street area with lots of restaurants and bars, but everything shuts down at 1 am. On a weekend, that's a real downer and it means you might go to sketchy house parties instead of a safer bar. It's not safe to walk alone at night in many areas off-campus, so you need a car or a friend with one.

Campus Quality: On a nice day, White Clay Creek is the best place to walk, jog, ride bike, etc.

Athletics: Athletics on this campus is about medium. The popular sports teams have a student following to support them, and most students have UD paraphernalia, such as sweatshirts and stickers for their cars. Depending on game there normally isn't a problem with tickets being sold out unless arrival game or playoffs/tournament (Basketball/football).

Campus Quality: Campus life has allowed me to meet and network with so many people at UDEL. It has created opportunities such as jobs, internships, and access to resources needed for academic success.

Campus Food: The campus dining is average. There are four dining halls on campus and two student centers. There is always a vegetarian option. If you get bored of the dining halls you can go to popular fast food restaurants at the student centers. Meal plans vary greatly, but you always have a certain number of meals and also a certain number of flex dollars which you can spend at student centers and the mini-marts on campus.

Majors: I declared when I submitted my application to the school. Then I started as an English major my first fall semester and was placed into two English classes. The major is relatively flexible and you can make many choices throughout the degree including when you want to take certain classes and what type of classes you would like to take.

4 College Freshman

Majors: I plan you have an internship my junior year because it is requirement for my major. I think it is great that Delaware requires internships because that is what really will help students in the real world. I know many of my friends have benefited from internships and have received job offers.

4 College Freshman

Academics: The professors are easily accessible and really want their students to succeed. Additionally, there are networking nights and career fairs to help students find future employers. The chemical engineering and physical therapy departments are very popular and some of the best in the country.

4 College Freshman

Majors: I'm in the English department, and I really like it so far. The professors are easy to talk to, there are a lot of classes offered, and many concentrations so I can do exactly what I want to. The concentrations include professional writing, creative writing, ethics, literature, film, and theater. There is a department literary magazine as well as other newspapers to write for on campus. Additionally, and internship is required for my major. There are also study abroad programs specific to my major. Classes are usually discussion based and very interesting.

4 College Freshman

Scholarships: I didn't qualify for any financial aid, so I am not receiving anything in that department. However, I am on a very decent scholarship, and it is very easy to simply apply it to my payment at the beginning of the semester.

Diversity: Not enough diversity on campus but we are working on changing that

Athletics: All sports, inter-mural and varsity, are highly popular at the university. The women's basketball team has been doing so well. We were in the top 10 at one point! Signing up for inter-mural sports is a popular thing as well. Basketball, soccer, volleyball, and swimming are all popular.

Guys & Girls: Both the guys and girls at the university get along with each other quite well. The relationships between same sex and/or opposite sex are both healthy. I am in the nursing program, so most of the students come appropriately dressed in their scrubs. I am also near the athletic department where I see students dressed in UD colors and gym clothes. Almost everyone has a healthy social life at the university. Although the programs at the school are difficult, most people find time on the weekends to socialize and bond at parties.

Guys & Girls: Guys at UD are generally either athletic or nerdy. There are some small groups in-between of preppy, artistic, and hick. Most of the guys I've met have been self-centered though. The girls are nice for the most part - very friendly and outgoing. Like everywhere else you can find stuck-up people too.

Administration: There are four types of cops in the area - State, County, Newark, and UD. This means they are usually patrolling for trouble, however it also means they are over-eager to charge you with something stupid or give you a ticket (i.e. jay-walking). They definitely take advantage of the college kids for parking tickets too.

Majors: For the Communications program, you begin as a "Communication Interest" (COMI) major. After completing 4 core classes during your freshman and sophomore year, the top 100 students matriculate into the COMM major, choosing either Mass or Interpersonal as a specialty.

4 College Junior

Majors: The PR program here at UD is extremely well rounded. By the time you leave, you will feel ready to take your place in the workforce.

4 College Junior

Majors: The Mass Communications track is easy to complete in your four year here at UD. Even with the added PR Concentration, I have still had time add Psychology as a second major. Classes are relatively easy and are relevant to daily life; professors are engaging and genuinely interesting in teaching.

4 College Junior

Majors: All work, no pay. As an intern, you work your butt off doing grunt work. Be proactive, anticipate responsibilities, and be grateful for the experience. The connections you can make during internships are invaluable and can really help out when it comes to getting a job after college.

Academics: I was in human services and found that the teachers and staff were very helpful. Everyone was easy to approach and I felt like I established wonderful relationships with those teachers.

Weather: You always have to carry around an umbrella because you never know when it will rain. Other than that the weather is pretty neutral.

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: There are countless places on Main St, or within walking distance to choose from. Whether you have no care for price or can only spend 10 dollars, there is a variety of types of food and restaurants to choose from.

Athletics: Despite having very good Division I sports teams, the school doesn't have the best school spirit. However the club sports here are just as competitive as the Varsity sports, and everyone participates in Intramural sports teams. If you want to play a sport here, there are endless possibilities!

3 College Sophomore

Majors: I believe good jobs are out there for Communications.

4 College Senior

Party Scene: Nightlife at University of Delaware is a lot of fun. There are plenty of options for 21+. On Main Street there are a lot of bars to go to. If you are under 21, there are always house parties which are tons of fun.

By the end of their years here, most students look back and are happy with their choice. They've received a good education and generally met some people with whom they will keep in touch for many years in "real" life. This love of the school comes about gradually for many students. While some students love it automatically and fit in easily with the relatively homogenous campus, others take longer to find their place and truly start to enjoy themselves.

While many students have a slow start here at Delaware, they all report that once they decided to give it a chance, they found their experience rewarding both academically and socially. This University tends to provide a nice balance between a social life and an academic one. There is always plenty of time to hang out and get your work done, so no matter what you are interested in, you have a chance to get it all done. This is the major benefit of attending the University of Delaware.
