Majors: The process of getting into Marketing was easy. I didn't have to add anything to the general application requirements. However, getting into the Honors Program was a bit challenging because an additional essay was required and only a small percentage of the students who applied were admitted. The most important criteria for admission was high school GPA, rank, quality of courses taken during high school, and the additional essay. No, my program does not have an abnormal application process.

Drug Safety: Underage students do drink on the weekends and sometimes cause noises in the hallways, making it hard for others to sleep. However, the RAs are very good at handling drunk students and do write them down if they cause trouble.

Campus Quality: The facilities at UD range from extremely nice and new to fair, but I definitely wouldn't say any facilities are in poor condition. The university staff and officers keep campus and facilities in good shape.

Weather: The weather at UD is pretty fair. We are lucky enough to get a long fall that tends to feel as if its still summer and a long spring with high temperatures. The downfall is we return to campus for the second semester, "Spring" semester, in the dead of winter so it is hard getting back in to the swing of things after 7 weeks off when it is so cold out. Also, when it starts to get nicer out, I constantly find myself saying, it would be so much warmer without this wind. Campus is very windy.

Campus Housing: The campus housing can really vary at UD. There are some very nice dorm locations and there are some that are not so nice. Out of the freshman dorms, the majority are older and falling apart, apart from the George Read Hall which is much newer and situated with upperclassmen housing. However, the university is working to improve and renovate all freshman housing with the opening of an enormous new facility in Fall 2013, with plans to continue renovations on others.

Majors: I am a marketing major and I couldn't have picked a better program. I was torn between choosing a marketing major or a communications major and am glad that I chose marketing. Being in the business school is a great experience because the professors are very intelligent and approachable. The classes that I have to take are, for the most part, all interesting to me. Being in the business school allows me to take classes that relate to all the different majors helping me to realize that marketing was the right choice.

Athletics: Varsity sports are a big deal at Delaware. We tend to be the under dogs in most of our sports but it is always so much fun to go out to the games, get dressed up, sit in the cockpit (our student section), and cheer as loud as you can! The varsity facilities are really nice, which also is the same for our non-varsity athletics. Intramural is a huge deal because everyone likes to play them and there are really great options. Additionally, our non-varsity gym is getting expanded and will be SO nice this fall (2013).

Majors: I have not had an internship yet but am currently looking for one for the winter. University of Delaware has an excellent career services center that is extremely helpful with matching you with internships and helping you along the path of achieving that internship. Being at Delaware, we are close to Philadelphia, Wilmington, New York, and Washington D.C., therefore there are many nearby opportunities that can be found with the help of our career services.

Majors: When I applied to the University of Delaware I did not have to fill out any extra application sections in order to apply to the business school. I merely chose that as the school I wanted to get into and when admissions reviewed my application they judged whether or not my grades matched those of the acceptable standard for the school of business.

Majors: I'm in the business school and I can truthfully say that I find all of my classes interesting and intellectually challenging. The workload depends on the class you are taking, there will be some easier classes that have a smaller work load and some classes that are more difficult with a heavier work load. All in all, the business school at UD is great and they always e-mail me about internship/job opportunities. It is clear that the business school really wants me to succeed.

Scholarships: Apply early, and don't be afraid to reach out and let admissions know about your accomplishments even throughout senior year. Also be sure to do FAFSA.

3 College Junior

Academics: Challenging and interesting coursework within classes applicable to my major. However, many gen eds require an excessive amount of work/effort and can be GPA killers.

Weather: You can always count on it to be either extremely warm, or extremely cold. It stays warm until about December and then stays cold until the middle of March. Classes rarely get cancelled due to weather. The one thing you can count on is for it to rain almost every Tuesday. Since it is such a huge campus, it is sometimes a hassle walking around in the really bad weather.

Health & Safety: The security on campus is pretty good. Students are sent updates via email or text if there is a safety concern that could affect them. Campus crime happens everywhere, the only true problem is that the school is integrated into the community so it is hard to differentiate between students and non-students. That makes crime a bit easier. There are blue lights everywhere and there are several numbers you can call if you feel unsafe or want to be escorted back to where you stay. I have never felt unsafe on the campus.

3 College Sophomore

Parking: There is a lot of parking available on the campus, but the problem is that they assign you a place to park. You have to pay for a parking space on campus and then they assign you a place to put your car, which may not necessarily be near your dorm.

3 College Junior

Party Scene: Nightlife is not that great if you are not 21 in Delaware but overall it is pretty good.

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: There are lots of options around UD from pizza to chipotle, it's pretty much up to the student to choose what they want that day. They also have pretty reasonable prices and run special some days for college kids.

3 College Junior

Drug Safety: Drinking is the main focus at UD but there are plenty of students who do drugs. Mainly its just weed but there are a few groups that pop pills. Most of them don't make it past sophomore year though.

Local Area: There are a few good restaurants and bars in Newark but that's about it. The area around Newark isn't the safest and a lot of non students tend to hang out around the campus and cause problems.

3 College Junior

Diversity: The student body is mainly comprised of white students and Asian students. Not much diversity other than that.

3 College Sophomore

Academics: Chemical engineers have lots of work, with tough teachers.

3 College Sophomore

Majors: I wish the chemical engineering program wasn't terrible. It's competitive but not in a way that will help, it mostly hurts people

3 College Sophomore

Majors: It was fine for me to get into my major, Chemical engineering. Lots of business and communications majors everywhere

3 College Sophomore

Academics: Professors are okay, work is a lot, registration is the worst time of my life.

3 College Sophomore

Administration: RAs will call cops on you if they smell weed. They'll come and break up parties too

By the end of their years here, most students look back and are happy with their choice. They've received a good education and generally met some people with whom they will keep in touch for many years in "real" life. This love of the school comes about gradually for many students. While some students love it automatically and fit in easily with the relatively homogenous campus, others take longer to find their place and truly start to enjoy themselves.

While many students have a slow start here at Delaware, they all report that once they decided to give it a chance, they found their experience rewarding both academically and socially. This University tends to provide a nice balance between a social life and an academic one. There is always plenty of time to hang out and get your work done, so no matter what you are interested in, you have a chance to get it all done. This is the major benefit of attending the University of Delaware.
