Majors: I completed the application forms. There was nothing special required. I declared my major immediately, biology. I did follow their requirements for admission entirely thru high school.

Diversity: There are many different races and religion at University of Delaware. I believe students are mainly accepting to diversity, I have never come across anyone having a problem feeling accepted.

Campus Quality: University of Delaware's campus life is very unique. I love the feeling when walking to classes and seeing familiar faces on campus. Everyone is so welcoming and there is a true genuine happiness throughout campus.

Campus Quality: My school's campus is beautiful and has a very welcoming feel. In addition, the Business School is acknowledged by many companies for full time job opportunities.

4 College Sophomore

Academics: I came to this school because they have one of the top 2 Visual communications programs in the country. this top tier level leanring is the same for most majors at the school

2 College Sophomore

Administration: Living in a dorm, they are kind of stricts with drinking depending on your RA. You can have visitors when ever you want with out signing in or anything but nothing is too much or too little strict for safety

Local Area: It's a beautiful campus with a lot of different parts, and the main street running right through the middle with a lot of stores

Academics: All of the endless amounts of options in majors and classes here are top ranked and provide great knowledgable professors

Guys & Girls: The overall student body is very attractive compared to other schools. Just walking to class you'll see hot guy after hot guy but the only problem is that so many of the guys here are short.

Party Scene: Frats and club sports dominate the night life with house parties open to just about anyone.

Off-Campus Dining: There is a great variety, everyone will find something they enjoy.

3 College Junior

Campus Food: With four different dining hall, there should be something you would want to eat. If not the food court have everything you would want and more. And if there a chance that the dining hall and food court are no good, then you can go to the market place and buy stuff/

Scholarships: It seems like no one what they are doing. As a student you have to call over and over and talk to many different people. It seem like it very hard to get any money or enough money to cover the cost of attending this school.

2 College Junior

Scholarships: Some years I had no problems, other years I had to find and fill out forms to get extra loans on my own because I did not receive enough from the school. That was a hassle. Also, the bills are not available until 2 weeks before school starts which adds an element of stress to the whole thing.

Weather: In summer the weather can be humid, but by the time we go back to school it has cooled down a bit. The winter can be snowy, but I love snow! We need more! More snow and less slush. But over all the winter isn't too bad, and fall and spring are gorgeous.

Parking: Parking permits are good, but the bus system is not always on time and delays students from getting to their classes on time. You do not necessarily need a car on campus unless you commute. There are many different options for permits and locations.

4 College Junior

Campus Quality: Great speakers and concerts on campus. The Honors program is awesome.

Academics: Overall good teachers who know what they are talking about.

Athletics: Fan support is there but few of the students go to the games.

Administration: The University has a very strict policy towards academic integrity, especially at the graduate level. They fully expect you to put forth original ideas, and to accurately cite when you've used someone else's. It's important to ask questions and always to be better safe than sorry. Having a strict policy ensures that students take heed to produce high-quality work they can be proud of and call their own.

Local Area: Newark, Delaware is much different than I pictured. I thought it would be a relatively dull and very small town. I was wrong! Some say it's like a suburb of Philadelphia, and I can understand why. The surrounding community contains a Main St. that is filled with an impressive array of dining for students and locals, as well as shops and necessary conveniences like a bookstore, cleaners, yoga studio and the like. A few miles in the other direction and you'll find co-ops, farmers markets, a beautiful mall and even more bars and places to hang out. Coming from California I am pleasantly surprised by what Newark, DE has to offer.

Off-Campus Housing: I am from the West Coast and was able to find a place within my budget in a community that is safe and friendly. I live about 5 miles from campus and have a car, which is handy for trips to the market. However, I have the option to walk, as there are grocery stores and dining close by. I also have the option of taking the bus, either to the University or to the mall nearby. I really enjoy the freedom of living off-campus, and as a graduate student it makes me feel more independent but sometimes I feel disconnected. However, as a graduate student I realize that I am not an undergrad, and that I don't necessarily need to be in the midst of student life. I have a nice 300 sq. ft. studio apartment, and I pay less than $650/ mos. This works well for me given I have a car note and other bills to pay with my stipend. You can find comparable apartments in the area, it all depends on what you're looking for. I found my place online and through the help of friends who lived in the area. The school can facilitate you speaking with other students to gather suggestions and do further research online. Be sure to ask about parking. I am fortunate to live in a place with adequate outside parking, and I don't have to worry about parking on the street or in a scary enclosed garage.

Parking: The university has made vast improvements to the availability of parking, particularly for graduate students. They've come up with a number of comprehensive packages to fit the different needs of students, and at reasonable rates. I'm really happy with the options they have and feel they really do listen to the student community when implementing changes. I was able to get an annual night and weekend parking pass for $83! It doesn't get better than that.

4 College Senior

Party Scene: The night life is ok. There are bars and restaurants on the main st. But that's about it. However, bars close early, and some of the bouncers at the bars can he jerks.

Athletics: Football is a big deal considering Joe Flacco (Baltimore ravens quarter back) is a UD Alumni and won the Super Bowl. So UD is very proud of their blue hens.

View student contributors

By the end of their years here, most students look back and are happy with their choice. They've received a good education and generally met some people with whom they will keep in touch for many years in "real" life. This love of the school comes about gradually for many students. While some students love it automatically and fit in easily with the relatively homogenous campus, others take longer to find their place and truly start to enjoy themselves.

While many students have a slow start here at Delaware, they all report that once they decided to give it a chance, they found their experience rewarding both academically and socially. This University tends to provide a nice balance between a social life and an academic one. There is always plenty of time to hang out and get your work done, so no matter what you are interested in, you have a chance to get it all done. This is the major benefit of attending the University of Delaware.
