4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I absolutely love my school and wouldn't change schools ever. Of course it's not perfect here, but it's pretty close. The campus vibe has so much energy, the student body is full of interesting and vibrant people, faculty are smart and helpful, and you'll have a lot of fun. The nightlife scene is awesome. Delaware honestly has given me such a great overall college experience. I couldn't imagine having this much fun and being this happy anywhere else.

Drug Safety: There's no peer pressure ever. People just do what they want and no one judges. I've never seen anyone doing hard drugs either.

Off-Campus Dining: Main Street has SO many different places to eat. You can find almost every kind of food here. It's a very diverse place when it comes to food.

5 College Freshman

Local Area: I love the vibe of the school. Everything about Delaware is so "college." It's a great place to be when you're in your late teens/early twenties. Although we aren't located in a big city, there's so much to do especially on Main Street. It has literally everything your heart could ever desire. Love, love, love the college atmosphere.

Administration: Campus strictness? Honestly, the school is strict about parking tickets and noise violations in the dorm, but that's about it. Nobody is ever on the hunt to get people in trouble. Just don't be stupid and you'll be fine.

3 College Freshman

Technology: The internet connection isn't the best, but it reaches you no matter where you are on campus.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: As a girl, I've never felt unsafe on campus. As long as you're smart about things, you have nothing to worry about. It's a really safe campus and you'll almost always see police or campus public safety around. They're always around trying to give someone a parking or jaywalking ticket, so you know if that's their biggest concern that the campus is a safe place.

Weather: Better than North Jersey weather, which is where I'm from. There's supposedly a lot of rain, but so far I have only experienced a small amount of rain. Otherwise, I think the weather is decent.

2 College Freshman

Scholarships: Financial aid was so difficult. The school didn't give me enough money, but I eventually was able to work things out. It was worth it in the end too. I love this school.

3 College Freshman

Athletics: Not the most school spirit when it comes to sports, but the sports teams that are really good do get recognized and get a lot of support from the student body. People do go to games though; it's not weird to go at all.

3 College Freshman

Academics: Some classes are challenging with bright students. Some classes are pointless, and some students make me question why I go here.

4 College Freshman

Academics: Professors are generally nice and caring. Expect a lot of classtime and classes in general. I have friends that go to other schools that don't have as many classes as we do.

3 College Freshman

Weather: It's temperate climate. Expect the seasonal weather changes. Beware of the pollen. Delaware is infamous for its pollen level.

4 College Freshman

Technology: As long as you're on campus, you'll have good wi-fi (it even rivals my home wi-fi). Computers are a must for classes, each class I had required a project or computer based assignment. The library is a great resource to use if you don't have a computer because you can borrow laptops and iPads, a lot technological equipment. But try to buy your own, if you can.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: Off-Housing is very competitive. People usually start the fall semester of the previous year to get a house or apartment. It's really competitive from what I've heard.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: Make sure to apply for scholarship consideration. UD gives great scholarships and financial aid to those who apply.

4 College Freshman

Campus Quality: There's a lot to do on campus. The green is my favorite part on campus to relax and read a book.

4 College Freshman

Campus Quality: Facilities here at UD are great. They're updating the campus and a lot of the academic building experienced renovations in the early 2000s, so everything is updated very well.

3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: Campus police are a great resource for students. They can be a bit overbearing at times, but from what I've heard, they understand that we are college students.

3 College Freshman

Overall Experience: It's not the best here at UD, but maybe because I'm a native Delawarean. I often wonder if I made the right choice going here, and not some of the other schools I got into because the main reason I got here was the cost. However, my OOS friends are having the time of their lives here, and I honestly think college is what you make of it.

Off-Campus Dining: Main Street is littered with great places to eat no matter the dietary restrictions one may have. I try to eat there at least once a week; it's a nice break from the dining halls.

4 College Freshman

Majors: Being a chemistry major here at UD is great! There are many opportunities for research and assistance from the faculty, but the courses can be challenging and a lot of the introductory courses are taught by cumbersome professors.

3 College Freshman

Majors: It's just like any other school.

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: I live in the newest residence hall, and it's great. But I've been to the other older residence halls and it's definitely going to be a step down for me next year. The not as updated residence halls do have the best social atmosphere, though.

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: It gets boring after a while. The menu is repetitive and there aren't many options in the specific hall.

By the end of their years here, most students look back and are happy with their choice. They've received a good education and generally met some people with whom they will keep in touch for many years in "real" life. This love of the school comes about gradually for many students. While some students love it automatically and fit in easily with the relatively homogenous campus, others take longer to find their place and truly start to enjoy themselves.

While many students have a slow start here at Delaware, they all report that once they decided to give it a chance, they found their experience rewarding both academically and socially. This University tends to provide a nice balance between a social life and an academic one. There is always plenty of time to hang out and get your work done, so no matter what you are interested in, you have a chance to get it all done. This is the major benefit of attending the University of Delaware.
