Scholarships: It's good. I filed the FAFSA and got a decent amount of aid.

Greek Life: There are over 44 Greek letter organizations on campus and about 21% of our undergraduate population participates in Greek life. Considering there's about 16,000 undergrads, 21% is not that much so Greek life is quite lively on campus but you do have the option to still have fun without it.

Campus Housing: I've lived on campus for two years and it has been a fantastic time because I was lucky enough to get some of the newer buildings with larger rooms and AC.

5 College Sophomore

Majors: There's over 140 majors with 100 minors. There is a ton of choice. I haven't had an internship yet because I have not found one near by.

5 College Sophomore

Majors: My program is everything one would expect from a pre-vet program. I'm not sure what I'm doing after I graduate so I'm taking it one step at a time for now. If I could do it all over again, I would probably choose another major because I have so many interests that—after taking to others about their majors—they sound great. I really like to travel and love art so those are some subjects I would also consider majoring in.

Local Area: I love the small town university feel. It's like we're [the students] the only ones that exist in that area so we have our own little piece of the world.

Drug Safety: I'm not quite informed on our drug scene at school but that's probably because I never hear about anything bad happening, so that can only be good news.

Off-Campus Housing: I hear it's quite nice to live off-campus. There are many places near the main campus for students to lodge and they recently build a new housing. Although I haven't lived off campus yet, I am considering it at some point. Most of the places near campus has great amenities like pools and large kitchens.

Off-Campus Dining: There are so many options when it comes to off campus dining. There are nice sit down restaurants if you want to go out and make it a nice dinner but there are also plenty of casual places as well. You can order by phone or online for take out which is very nice.

Guys & Girls: They are not as tall as girls might hope. I think the guys on campus are very nice and friendly not stuck up at all.

4 College Sophomore

Administration: There are issues that the school is strict about and although as a student it is easy to complain about I realize they are there for our safety. I feel independent and do not feel as though the school is suffocating us in any way as students. They recognize that we are adults, and the choices we make are our responsibility.

5 College Sophomore

Transportation: There are so many transportation options at school. On campus, there are shuttles. Off campus you can call for a cab or use the bus. If you are looking to travel far, there is also a train station on south campus where Amtrak comes and you can also rent zip cars.

3 College Sophomore

Parking: I do not have a car on campus so I am not entirely sure how the parking is.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: I've never felt pressure to use a drug I did not want to use and have never felt judged for my choices.

3 College Sophomore

Greek Life: You may feel pressure to join a sorority or fraternity, especially for guys because it is almost impossible to get into parties unless you are in the frat.

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I love my school, the spirit and the pride make me proud to be here. The overall atmosphere is happy and you can tell the students love being here.

Academics: I am always emailed by my program director about internship opportunities, new classes that are becoming available to us, and workshops to help us in interviews. The curriculum is difficult at times and requires dedication and focus but there are so many ways to seek help if you need it.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: With a school like UD, there are so many options available to students if they need assistance. Registration is the one thing that really seems to stress everyone out but it is like that at all schools.

5 College Sophomore

Technology: There are so many options if you are in need of a computer. My laptop broke this semester and I found it very easy to access a computer when needed. There are countless labs located in all parts of campus, each with printing access, and the library has so many computers. I always found an open computer and never had trouble.

Health & Safety: For such a large school, I feel that the crime rate for Delaware is fair. I have walked back to my dorm many times alone from the library late at night and have never felt unsafe. There are blue lights, police cars, and shuttles to make you feel safe.

Party Scene: There are plenty of party options if that is what you are looking for, however, for guys it is almost impossible to get in to a frat house if you are not in the frat. There are also numerous bars for those over the age of 21. If you are not into that kind of scene, there are university sponsored events and plenty of other options available to you for your weekends. The typical way people travel to parties is by walking. There are campus wide shuttle buses that run throughout the night too though if you would rather that and there are also a number of cab services that students choose to use as well.

Weather: The weather tends to be a bit bipolar at times. It can go from being in the 30s during December to all of a second back to 60s! At Delaware you get to experience all seasons which I really enjoy because I love the sun and warmth during the early fall and spring but it is also so beautiful to see campus covered in snow during winter.

Local Area: Our campus at University of Delaware is located in Newark, DE. It its not necessarily a large city, but there is definitely plenty to do and you never feel like you're in an isolated or secluded area. Main Street is a great feature on our campus. There are tons of restaurants and shops along Main Street such as bagel delis, smoothie shops, pizzerias, Dunkin Donuts, coffee shops, and a variety of small boutiques. If any of these do not appeal to you or you're looking for something else, the mall is just a 20 minute ride away and if you don't have a car there is a bus that can take you there. For those over 21 and looking for night life there are also plenty of bar options along Main Street. The general attitude toward students is wonderful, I have never felt like a local disliked me or anything, they are polite and actually enjoy the school spirit.

Majors: You do have to choose a major before you apply, which if you know an idea of what you like isnt bad. You can also choose undecided/university major. Honestly i think choosing you major early is just so UD can review your application by which program you choose. It great though, cause you can change your major with ease several times.

Campus Housing: I got lucky with my dorm this year, im friends with almost everyone on my hall plus some on other floors. I went random for my roommate at that turned out well too. Some freshman dorms (Dickinson and rodney) are ones you want to avoid if at all possible. I also have friends in the new freshman dorms; which are gorgeous and huge...im jealous. upperclassman dorms are also nice, mostly on north campus, but by junior year mostly everyone moves off.

By the end of their years here, most students look back and are happy with their choice. They've received a good education and generally met some people with whom they will keep in touch for many years in "real" life. This love of the school comes about gradually for many students. While some students love it automatically and fit in easily with the relatively homogenous campus, others take longer to find their place and truly start to enjoy themselves.

While many students have a slow start here at Delaware, they all report that once they decided to give it a chance, they found their experience rewarding both academically and socially. This University tends to provide a nice balance between a social life and an academic one. There is always plenty of time to hang out and get your work done, so no matter what you are interested in, you have a chance to get it all done. This is the major benefit of attending the University of Delaware.
