Health & Safety: I personally have never been a victim of assault on campus, but I do know of someone who lived on my freshman floor who was last year. Walking the streets of Newark can be dangerous, but mostly because of Newark residents, NOT the actual students or faculty at the University.

Overall Experience: Since I am an engineer, most of my professors only teach lectures and hold 1-2 office hours per week. I have never had a bad experience with a professor, and each one has always made time to make an appointment with me, and replied to my emails fairly quickly.

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I have only received an internship outside of school, but I have handfuls of friends of engineers who have gotten internships and research opportunities easily by talking to career services, advisors, and research professors.

Campus Housing: Since UD is becoming a larger school, more freshman have been tripled in double rooms, and more off campus apartments have been built further away from classes. However most dorms are very clean with air conditioning and an adequate amount of restrooms for each floor. The living quality of my freshman dorm was great because I lived in George Reed, a suite style dorm with one bathroom to two doubled rooms. However the suite style made the dorm less social, and I have made many more friends as a sophomore in an off campus apartment.

Greek Life: As a student that does not have the time to be involved in Greek life but only has friends who are involved, I can say that Greek life is extremely popular at UD. Sometimes not being involved is great because there is a lot expected of these Greek members weekly, and some days as a Non-Greek you feel very left out.

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: With an abundance of activities to be involved in at UD, varsity sport don't always shine out as being an important aspect of college life here. However I am on the club volleyball team and do intramurals and must say both are popular.

Overall Experience: The University of Delaware is an outstanding place to spend four years of your young adult life. I am a chemical engineer and still enjoy almost all activities my school offers.

Campus Housing: The residential dorms vary with amenities, convenience, and spacial features. Even though almost all of the older dorms are being remodeled or given more features, there is still a small disadvantage if given the older dorms compared to the newer ones. Such as there is no air conditioning or there is less washers and dryers.

Greek Life: Greek life is celebrated frequently with parties over the weekends and holidays. On the other hand, Greek life plays an important role in promoting awareness for certain situations, such as college suicide or alcohol abuse.

Athletics: Varsity athletics are always an important aspect at a state university, yet, on this campus intramural and club sports are even more celebrated and accepted. Which is fantastic since it shows much more acceptance. Intramural sports are practiced and played on a daily basis near the residential halls which show much more school spirit and get the students ready for varsity sport days. Also, there are facilities around campus that are easily accessible to all students, staff, and faculty. These facilities are always keep clean and safe to use at appropriate times with great staff.

Overall Experience: The amount of on-campus resources is surprising and very helpful. Also, the size of the campus is really reasonable for walking to and from class, with only a maximum of 20 minutes from one side of the campus to the other. Another aspect of the college that I enjoy is the range of majors and minors that UD offers, therefore, making it simple to take a variety of classes even when taking a specific major.

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: I am not that involved in the varsity sports but I play on intramural teams every chance I get.

Overall Experience: I like my school and dislike it for the same reason. The proximity to my home. It's nice being close to home so I can go back whenever I am homesick but I feel like I also don't get to experience individuality as much as I would if I were further away.

4 College Sophomore

Diversity: There's a huge amount of diversity for sexual orientation groups. All people are welcomed.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: I know a few people that partake, but most people don't peer pressure you.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: My major has a wide variety of courses.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: There are UD alerts all the time, but I think it is average.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: The school hosts a variety of networking events that further students interests in specific fields.

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: My love for this place is too great to put into words.

Party Scene: The nightlife here is insane. Not much to do in DE so all the effort is put into partying your a** off during the weekend. Also, the day drink scene is one of the best in the country. Extremely underrated.

Party Scene: You could probably party every day of the week if you wanted to. Thursday, Fridays, and Saturdays take the bulk of nightlife. However, you will find a Mimosa Monday, Tequila Tuesday, or Wine Wednesday every once in awhile. Personally I've met some of my best friends through parties. If you're about the scene, the party life brings so many positives to the table.

Academics: For a state school, fantastic academics. The business program is very underrated to a lot of people outside of Delaware.

Diversity: Haven't heard of anything bad yet. Mostly white kids here but that doesn't mean they're not accepting.

Health & Safety: It's a big school and there are a lot people out and about so you'll never be completely alone. I could see some more cops out at night.

3 College Freshman

Overall Experience: The class will vary depending on the class (ie Intro to Psych or Philosophy) but everyone is engaged in learning. The professors are knowledgable on the topic they are teaching.

By the end of their years here, most students look back and are happy with their choice. They've received a good education and generally met some people with whom they will keep in touch for many years in "real" life. This love of the school comes about gradually for many students. While some students love it automatically and fit in easily with the relatively homogenous campus, others take longer to find their place and truly start to enjoy themselves.

While many students have a slow start here at Delaware, they all report that once they decided to give it a chance, they found their experience rewarding both academically and socially. This University tends to provide a nice balance between a social life and an academic one. There is always plenty of time to hang out and get your work done, so no matter what you are interested in, you have a chance to get it all done. This is the major benefit of attending the University of Delaware.
