Local Area: Newark is a small town, your best options for finding something to do are on campus hanging with friends, going to main street or the mall. However, UD is also an easy bus/train ride to Phily, baltimore, new york, DC and the beach so weekend trips are always an option

Party Scene: Frat parties are easy to get into if you're a girl, and there are some every weekend. Frats are fun if you know people there otherwise its crappy beer in a basement, but if thats your scene-go for it. I recommend joining a club and going to their parties, you know everyone there and are more likely to enjoy it. Walking is your best option for going out, and you can go out anytime. If you want to stay in there will be people who you live with who also just want a quite movie night.

Campus Food: Its dining hall food, so if you go in expected your moms home cooking or gourmet you'll be disappointed. That being said, there are options everyday and some meals are great, others not so much.

3 College Freshman

Diversity: I have met many more people from surrounding states than anywhere else. Yet I have also seen many international students and diversity clubs

5 College Freshman

Academics: There are over 300 majors, its not hard to find a diversity of classes.

3 College Freshman

Transportation: Megabus is cheap but the stop is on north campus, which isnt too bad of a walk. The train is in between central and south campus and can be really pricy. Many students are within a 3 hour distance so getting home isnt difficult

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Main street has a lot of delicious options

2 College Freshman

Parking: on campus parking is expensive, its not worth having a car. off campus housing normally provides you with a free spot though so wait til you move off campus to bring your car up

4 College Freshman

Campus Quality: Lots of cheap work out classes for students. TONS of clubs, the student centers are great and the green is lovely, great aesthetics

5 College Freshman

Campus Quality: Brand new gym is amazing, and the library it huge and great for studying. Some dining halls are better than others but there are always options

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: If you can find a reasonable place, its cheaper than living on campus. However it may be a little more of a walk and you need to look EARLY in the year

3 College Freshman

Weather: Beautiful when its sunny, a ton of fun when it snows, blah when it rains

4 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: Most girls are blonde and in sororities. Most guys are party animals in frats. Both very preppy. Not too much variety.

Technology: There are plenty of computers available for use in the Morris Library.

4 College Freshman

Greek Life: Many students at UD are involved in Greek Life. However, it's not a big deal if you're not involved.

2 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Many students take part in the drug and alcohol/ party scene on campus. However, it's not all fun and games, many students, especially freshman don't know how to manage themselves when presented with unlimited booze at frat parties. UD is a party school. You just have to be responsible.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: I received a good amount of financial aid from this institution.

4 College Freshman

Transportation: Transportation here is great. There is no need for a car here if you're living on campus. There's shuttles running throughout campus, it's very convenient.

3 College Freshman

Diversity: It's somewhat hard to be a minority on campus. The school is 84% Caucasian, it doesn't leave much room for blacks, hispanics, asians, etc. The school needs to work on implementations on diversity.

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: The food at UD is pretty good, it's nothing compared to your mom's homemade cooking but it's a pretty good substitute.

4 College Freshman

Party Scene: The nightlife is very buzzing. There is always something to do.

2 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: It is very difficult to obtain an off campus housing as spots get filled up very quickly. You should start looking for off campus housing months in advance. Most of them are expensive and only a few are cheap.

4 College Sophomore

Technology: There is a compute lab on every part of the campus and so is quite convenient to the students. The speed is good. However, it is necessary to bring your own laptop as it become inconvenient to walk to a computer lab almost every day and that too, when the computer labs have fixed hours.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Crimes do happen near campus like they do at every college. However, the campus, itself, is usually safe. Personally, I feel safer while walking in groups.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Off campus dining options are great as there is a huge variety of restaurants including Mexican, Indian, Asian, etc. They are a walking distance to campus and thus are convenient for the students. The best places to check out are Chipotle, California Tortilla, Grottos Pizza, and Dunkin Donuts.

By the end of their years here, most students look back and are happy with their choice. They've received a good education and generally met some people with whom they will keep in touch for many years in "real" life. This love of the school comes about gradually for many students. While some students love it automatically and fit in easily with the relatively homogenous campus, others take longer to find their place and truly start to enjoy themselves.

While many students have a slow start here at Delaware, they all report that once they decided to give it a chance, they found their experience rewarding both academically and socially. This University tends to provide a nice balance between a social life and an academic one. There is always plenty of time to hang out and get your work done, so no matter what you are interested in, you have a chance to get it all done. This is the major benefit of attending the University of Delaware.
