Transportation: There are so many transportation options at school. On campus, there are shuttles. Off campus you can call for a cab or use the bus. If you are looking to travel far, there is also a train station on south campus where Amtrak comes and you can also rent zip cars.

Parking: I do not have a car on campus so I am not entirely sure how the parking is.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: I've never felt pressure to use a drug I did not want to use and have never felt judged for my choices.

3 College Sophomore

Greek Life: You may feel pressure to join a sorority or fraternity, especially for guys because it is almost impossible to get into parties unless you are in the frat.

Overall Experience: I love my school, the spirit and the pride make me proud to be here. The overall atmosphere is happy and you can tell the students love being here.

Academics: I am always emailed by my program director about internship opportunities, new classes that are becoming available to us, and workshops to help us in interviews. The curriculum is difficult at times and requires dedication and focus but there are so many ways to seek help if you need it.

Academics: With a school like UD, there are so many options available to students if they need assistance. Registration is the one thing that really seems to stress everyone out but it is like that at all schools.

Technology: There are so many options if you are in need of a computer. My laptop broke this semester and I found it very easy to access a computer when needed. There are countless labs located in all parts of campus, each with printing access, and the library has so many computers. I always found an open computer and never had trouble.

Health & Safety: For such a large school, I feel that the crime rate for Delaware is fair. I have walked back to my dorm many times alone from the library late at night and have never felt unsafe. There are blue lights, police cars, and shuttles to make you feel safe.

Party Scene: There are plenty of party options if that is what you are looking for, however, for guys it is almost impossible to get in to a frat house if you are not in the frat. There are also numerous bars for those over the age of 21. If you are not into that kind of scene, there are university sponsored events and plenty of other options available to you for your weekends. The typical way people travel to parties is by walking. There are campus wide shuttle buses that run throughout the night too though if you would rather that and there are also a number of cab services that students choose to use as well.

Weather: The weather tends to be a bit bipolar at times. It can go from being in the 30s during December to all of a second back to 60s! At Delaware you get to experience all seasons which I really enjoy because I love the sun and warmth during the early fall and spring but it is also so beautiful to see campus covered in snow during winter.

Local Area: Our campus at University of Delaware is located in Newark, DE. It its not necessarily a large city, but there is definitely plenty to do and you never feel like you're in an isolated or secluded area. Main Street is a great feature on our campus. There are tons of restaurants and shops along Main Street such as bagel delis, smoothie shops, pizzerias, Dunkin Donuts, coffee shops, and a variety of small boutiques. If any of these do not appeal to you or you're looking for something else, the mall is just a 20 minute ride away and if you don't have a car there is a bus that can take you there. For those over 21 and looking for night life there are also plenty of bar options along Main Street. The general attitude toward students is wonderful, I have never felt like a local disliked me or anything, they are polite and actually enjoy the school spirit.

Majors: You do have to choose a major before you apply, which if you know an idea of what you like isnt bad. You can also choose undecided/university major. Honestly i think choosing you major early is just so UD can review your application by which program you choose. It great though, cause you can change your major with ease several times.

Campus Housing: I got lucky with my dorm this year, im friends with almost everyone on my hall plus some on other floors. I went random for my roommate at that turned out well too. Some freshman dorms (Dickinson and rodney) are ones you want to avoid if at all possible. I also have friends in the new freshman dorms; which are gorgeous and huge...im jealous. upperclassman dorms are also nice, mostly on north campus, but by junior year mostly everyone moves off.

Greek Life: Lots of frat parties, and many guys join for that, but not all. Clubs are equally popular, and cheaper. Girls its really your choice to join or not, i have friends planning on joining and some who are not interested at all. its up to you, no pressure

Local Area: Newark is a small town, your best options for finding something to do are on campus hanging with friends, going to main street or the mall. However, UD is also an easy bus/train ride to Phily, baltimore, new york, DC and the beach so weekend trips are always an option

Party Scene: Frat parties are easy to get into if you're a girl, and there are some every weekend. Frats are fun if you know people there otherwise its crappy beer in a basement, but if thats your scene-go for it. I recommend joining a club and going to their parties, you know everyone there and are more likely to enjoy it. Walking is your best option for going out, and you can go out anytime. If you want to stay in there will be people who you live with who also just want a quite movie night.

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: Its dining hall food, so if you go in expected your moms home cooking or gourmet you'll be disappointed. That being said, there are options everyday and some meals are great, others not so much.

3 College Freshman

Diversity: I have met many more people from surrounding states than anywhere else. Yet I have also seen many international students and diversity clubs

5 College Freshman

Academics: There are over 300 majors, its not hard to find a diversity of classes.

3 College Freshman

Transportation: Megabus is cheap but the stop is on north campus, which isnt too bad of a walk. The train is in between central and south campus and can be really pricy. Many students are within a 3 hour distance so getting home isnt difficult

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Main street has a lot of delicious options

2 College Freshman

Parking: on campus parking is expensive, its not worth having a car. off campus housing normally provides you with a free spot though so wait til you move off campus to bring your car up

4 College Freshman

Campus Quality: Lots of cheap work out classes for students. TONS of clubs, the student centers are great and the green is lovely, great aesthetics

5 College Freshman

Campus Quality: Brand new gym is amazing, and the library it huge and great for studying. Some dining halls are better than others but there are always options

By the end of their years here, most students look back and are happy with their choice. They've received a good education and generally met some people with whom they will keep in touch for many years in "real" life. This love of the school comes about gradually for many students. While some students love it automatically and fit in easily with the relatively homogenous campus, others take longer to find their place and truly start to enjoy themselves.

While many students have a slow start here at Delaware, they all report that once they decided to give it a chance, they found their experience rewarding both academically and socially. This University tends to provide a nice balance between a social life and an academic one. There is always plenty of time to hang out and get your work done, so no matter what you are interested in, you have a chance to get it all done. This is the major benefit of attending the University of Delaware.
