Health & Safety: I used to walk across campus at night and feel relatively comfortable.

5 College Senior

Campus Quality: I love being at UD! There are a wide variety of clubs and programs available for students to participate in. There are tons of different student run concerts, recitals and shows to attend regularly.

5 College Senior

Campus Quality: Its awesome! There are so many different events on campus for students to attend and the best part is that most of them are free or very cheap for students.

4 College Senior

Scholarships: I had received academic scholarships from UD. But for me it was not enough help, I also applied for and received multiple loans from the school. When I needed more help they were able to offer me a work study position.

Diversity: Delaware does tend to be slightly homogenous with the population of students. But it is an accepting campus for the most part.

Overall Experience: I've enjoyed all of the events I've attended. It makes me revel in the fact that there are so many people on campus that it's like our own city. I love large crowds so UD definitely offered this. I would choose my school again because of the same reasons I had out of high school: it was the perfect opportunity to pursue my career interest while being close enough to home but far away enough that I'd be able to start all over, somewhere different with all new people. I wanted that independence and a new start.

Campus Quality: A student that wants to be involved has lots of choices in both their living community and campus wide. There are always events to attend and clubs looking for members as we have over 300 registered student organizations.

5 College Sophomore

Campus Quality: They are fantastic. They are very spacious with central air.

5 College Sophomore

Transportation: Our campus shuttle is free and runs every day of the week. The Newark city transportation runs through campus. And also, everything is about 15 minutes or less walk from central campus.

4 College Sophomore

Weather: It's not quite New England, which is what I'm used to, but there is still hot summers and very cold winters with an occasional snowfall. Nothing but that northeast weather charm.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: The workload is usually decent for the classes. One just had to make sure to study. Engineering is a big focus at my school so they have a lot of great engineering and math courses. And we're number 2 for PT in the nation.

5 College Sophomore

Academics: We have a lot of really great professors who are always available to help us. In addition to many tutoring sessions made available by the university and the individual colleges.

5 College Sophomore

Athletics: It's great because we have 11 varsity men's and women's teams and a ton of intramural teams.

4 College Sophomore

Party Scene: Not into the night life myself but I've seen and heard that it's quite good.

4 College Sophomore

Scholarships: It's good. I filed the FAFSA and got a decent amount of aid.

Greek Life: There are over 44 Greek letter organizations on campus and about 21% of our undergraduate population participates in Greek life. Considering there's about 16,000 undergrads, 21% is not that much so Greek life is quite lively on campus but you do have the option to still have fun without it.

5 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: I've lived on campus for two years and it has been a fantastic time because I was lucky enough to get some of the newer buildings with larger rooms and AC.

5 College Sophomore

Majors: There's over 140 majors with 100 minors. There is a ton of choice. I haven't had an internship yet because I have not found one near by.

5 College Sophomore

Majors: My program is everything one would expect from a pre-vet program. I'm not sure what I'm doing after I graduate so I'm taking it one step at a time for now. If I could do it all over again, I would probably choose another major because I have so many interests that—after taking to others about their majors—they sound great. I really like to travel and love art so those are some subjects I would also consider majoring in.

5 College Sophomore

Local Area: I love the small town university feel. It's like we're [the students] the only ones that exist in that area so we have our own little piece of the world.

4 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: I'm not quite informed on our drug scene at school but that's probably because I never hear about anything bad happening, so that can only be good news.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: I hear it's quite nice to live off-campus. There are many places near the main campus for students to lodge and they recently build a new housing. Although I haven't lived off campus yet, I am considering it at some point. Most of the places near campus has great amenities like pools and large kitchens.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: There are so many options when it comes to off campus dining. There are nice sit down restaurants if you want to go out and make it a nice dinner but there are also plenty of casual places as well. You can order by phone or online for take out which is very nice.

3 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: They are not as tall as girls might hope. I think the guys on campus are very nice and friendly not stuck up at all.

4 College Sophomore

Administration: There are issues that the school is strict about and although as a student it is easy to complain about I realize they are there for our safety. I feel independent and do not feel as though the school is suffocating us in any way as students. They recognize that we are adults, and the choices we make are our responsibility.

By the end of their years here, most students look back and are happy with their choice. They've received a good education and generally met some people with whom they will keep in touch for many years in "real" life. This love of the school comes about gradually for many students. While some students love it automatically and fit in easily with the relatively homogenous campus, others take longer to find their place and truly start to enjoy themselves.

While many students have a slow start here at Delaware, they all report that once they decided to give it a chance, they found their experience rewarding both academically and socially. This University tends to provide a nice balance between a social life and an academic one. There is always plenty of time to hang out and get your work done, so no matter what you are interested in, you have a chance to get it all done. This is the major benefit of attending the University of Delaware.
