5 College Freshman

Technology: The computers at my school are excellent. Service is fast and free access everywhere. The school gives you credit for printing.

Weather: Right now this is one of the coldest winter.

Athletics: Everyone gets really excited for the first few games which is always fun and hyped-up but after that attendance at sports events die down.

Transportation: Mostly everything is within a walking distance. There are city buses if you want to go out to the mall.

Drug Safety: We are required to take an Alcohol education class online so that is a neat program to make students aware.

Academics: I originally was accepted to the Biological Sciences program because I planned on becoming a pharmacist but now I want to change my major to nursing. I can say that the program provided students with lots of help such as tutoring, etc. The adviser was very helpful.

Campus Quality: There are two student centers that hold fast food places and study lounges, pool tables, a movie theater etc.

Campus Quality: The buildings are pretty updated. The Green is the mainstay of UD hosting numerous events throughout the year.

3 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: I love UD, its fun, and has good educational opportunities to advance.

3 College Sophomore

Weather: Rainy tuesdays. When it gets cold everything seems boring and theres not a whole lot to do.

4 College Sophomore

Local Area: Its a great little area to be in, very unique with a state park literally at the back door where you can hike, fish, walk, bike.

Party Scene: There are many parties but usually get busted by 1 am or so. There are many bars on Main st. which are pretty fun and have different options dependant on what you're looking for.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Main St. is the epitome of off campus dining, hosting a large variety of sit down restaurants, bars and some fast food and convenience stores.

2 College Sophomore

Parking: The parking rates are crazy high and the parking enforcement people are out even during weekend and non regular semester hours.

3 College Sophomore

Greek Life: I haven't taken part in Greek life so I would not be reliable on it.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: The majority of housing is just a short walk from classes. All the dorms I have been in so far were moderately social. The cost of housing depends on which building you get into, but overall is kind of expensive...

3 College Sophomore

Campus Food: The food is usually top notch depending on which dining hall you go to. The hours are alright.

4 College Sophomore

Transportation: Sometimes the buses are late, but they run often and go alll over campus. However the night buses and weekend buses take forever!

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: The students tailgate alot for the the football games, even though our team doesn't do well all the time.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: It could be safer, but I'm not really worried about it.

Weather: Delaware weather's always been testy. I grew up in Delaware, so I'm used to it and it doesn't bother me much. But one day it could be hot as anything and you have to wear shorts and a t-shirt but the next day you might need jeans and a sweater; it's definitely a place you have to check the weather day by day to know what you'll be wearing to class in the morning.

Campus Food: The food at this school is pretty awful. Some of it is good, but it's mostly awful. We have some good fast food options in our student centers (Quiznos, Chik-Fil-A) but I will never forgive them for taking away Taco Bell and putting in "Burger Studio". All the food in the dining hall tastes freezer burnt or just not good, but you have to eat it if you want to survive the semester. There's hardly any variety - every so often they'll have "Asian Grille" night or "Fiesta" night or some other themed nonsense to serve something more ethnic, but it's mostly very bland or "American" food - I don't mind it all that much, because I'm picky, but their idea of vegetarian options is to shove a pasta dish in the corner and label it vegetarian or the like. You get a lot more variety in the student centers than you do in the dining halls. Dining halls also have hours that seem convenient but once you go to class you realize how inconvenient it is (the closest dining hall to the main campus has the worst food). It'd be nice if they had something that ran from 7am until 9pm, all day, just so it was easier to plan meals around classes. They do have late night dining, but only at one dining hall, all the way on North campus. They also have "to go" where you slide your meal card and you can take away two styrofoam containers of measured out food vs. being able to go in there and do buffet style. Pencader and Russel both serve UDairy ice cream, which is made on campus, and is probably the most delicious ice cream I've ever had, so I usually tried to go to one of those two dining halls.

By the end of their years here, most students look back and are happy with their choice. They've received a good education and generally met some people with whom they will keep in touch for many years in "real" life. This love of the school comes about gradually for many students. While some students love it automatically and fit in easily with the relatively homogenous campus, others take longer to find their place and truly start to enjoy themselves.

While many students have a slow start here at Delaware, they all report that once they decided to give it a chance, they found their experience rewarding both academically and socially. This University tends to provide a nice balance between a social life and an academic one. There is always plenty of time to hang out and get your work done, so no matter what you are interested in, you have a chance to get it all done. This is the major benefit of attending the University of Delaware.
