Off-Campus Housing: Most students live off-campus in their last two years of schooling. The options are pretty vast, but the homes go quickly. Sometimes it's hard to get a house close to campus, but it's not impossible. All of the homes are within walking distance, though.

Off-Campus Dining: Newark's Main Street runs right through the center of campus, so there are many places to dine and the food is very good and not too expensive.

Diversity: I seem to find that out campus is very diverse. I've met students from many different states and countries, as well as different ethnicities and backgrounds. There isn't one specific type of person that attends the University of Delaware, but a slue of different kinds of people.

Greek Life: Greek life doesn't play a large roll on campus, and students aren't too concerned with whether or not you participate in Greek life. However, it's a great way to get involved and meet new people.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I feel very safe when I'm walking around campus, even when I'm by myself. There are always other students around so I never feel alone, and I trust my peers. Although there are always people on campus that aren't students at UD, they never bother me or cause any harm.

Technology: The computers in the library are a decent quality, but it's important to bring you own computer because it's much more convenient than making many trips to the library to use a computer.

4 College Freshman

Party Scene: Everyone is very friendly and looking to have a good time.

Campus Housing: Living on campus is nice because I'm close to all my classes, but the rooms are small and the dorms are very old.

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: Many places to eat on Main Street, so the OCMP is worth it

Campus Housing: The freshmen dorms are social, with the exception of George Reed, and Harrington which is now closed for renovations. If you live on North campus, it is an extra 10 minutes to campus, but the rooms are bigger and newer. However, it is expensive so most students go off campus by junior year

Off-Campus Housing: To get an apartment, many people will camp outside the building overnight to receive one. Must plan well in advance to get a good apartment.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

By the end of their years here, most students look back and are happy with their choice. They've received a good education and generally met some people with whom they will keep in touch for many years in "real" life. This love of the school comes about gradually for many students. While some students love it automatically and fit in easily with the relatively homogenous campus, others take longer to find their place and truly start to enjoy themselves.

While many students have a slow start here at Delaware, they all report that once they decided to give it a chance, they found their experience rewarding both academically and socially. This University tends to provide a nice balance between a social life and an academic one. There is always plenty of time to hang out and get your work done, so no matter what you are interested in, you have a chance to get it all done. This is the major benefit of attending the University of Delaware.
