4 College Sophomore

Diversity: lots of diversity awareness clubs

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: hard to find - not listed in one place, you have to do all the work yourselves

the process starts very early in the fall - lots of people sign leases in sept/oct

Weather: long winters, lots of rain

4 College Sophomore

Academics: "public ivy" - improving, becoming more challenging

(depends on the major)

4 College Sophomore

Party Scene: good bar selection on main street

3 College Sophomore

Diversity: There are a great number of international students, and the LGBT community is very large.

Transportation: The bus schedule app isn't always accurate, but usually if you wait at any of the bus stops (of which there is a pretty good number) you'll find yourself on a bus within about twenty minutes at the most.

Weather: I never would have thought that such a flat state would be so windy! But when the sun's out it's absolutely gorgeous.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: I love Independence and the other Laird campus dorms. They're big, they have air-conditioning, and they're relatively new. I wish we could open the windows but that's really my only complaint.

3 College Sophomore

Greek Life: I personally have no problem with the Greeks. They do their own thing, they do mine. They do plenty of fundraising events so they do good for the community and they aren't overly obnoxious or anything like that. Most of them are quite nice.

4 College Sophomore

Technology: The library was a large number of computers with up-to-date software, however the printing prices are a bit high.

2 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: A lot of students on campus do drugs. On holiday weekends main street becomes crowded with drunk college students, though they're usually pretty harmless.

4 College Sophomore

Local Area: UD is a great school community; the campus is beautiful and there's a great diversity of both academics and student organizations.

2 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: A lot of it is just fast food, with very few healthy options. A lot of the restaurants offer the same foods, even though they are pretty good quality.

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: There are a lot of intramural sports, and a lot of teams. There's games that you wouldn't normally expect to see, like broom ball. Football and basketball are well-advertised but that's really it. I know almost nothing about our hockey or soccer teams.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: There's a lot of it, but lot of it is very very expensive. There is a pretty good variety though, of townhouses apartments and houses.

2 College Sophomore

Administration: Certain things are ignored on certain occasions. When it comes to St. Patrick's day weekend, there's almost no enforcement on the underage drinking and partying. However, on normal weekends it feels like a party could get broken up within ten minutes of starting.

4 College Sophomore

Athletics: Men's Track & Field was cut due to Title Lie, I mean Nine. That is the biggest issue with UD Athletics.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Housing isn't bad they could be closer to classes in most cases. Unless you live on the Green you need to leave somewhat early to be on time to class. Fortunately, the campus is relatively small.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: There's a lot of majors here at UD, can't go wrong with most.

College Sophomore

Majors: I found an internship as a result of getting involved with an RSO. Can't speak on local internships, heard they are hard to find however. You'll need one for your Discovery Learning Experience (DLE) Credit.

Greek Life: Most Greeks are annoying, they are either men (Frats) who only let girls into their parties. Or girls who are not in touch with the world or plight of others. Not very much diversity either, come on UD!

3 College Sophomore

Weather: For the most part the weather is good but sometimes it's pretty bad with rain. About average however for this area sometimes unpredictable though.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: It could be better, a lot of the places are expensive yet their actual quality is pretty low. Too many places were put together to look nice rather than to last.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: The restaurants could be closer to campus but that's part of being off campus.

By the end of their years here, most students look back and are happy with their choice. They've received a good education and generally met some people with whom they will keep in touch for many years in "real" life. This love of the school comes about gradually for many students. While some students love it automatically and fit in easily with the relatively homogenous campus, others take longer to find their place and truly start to enjoy themselves.

While many students have a slow start here at Delaware, they all report that once they decided to give it a chance, they found their experience rewarding both academically and socially. This University tends to provide a nice balance between a social life and an academic one. There is always plenty of time to hang out and get your work done, so no matter what you are interested in, you have a chance to get it all done. This is the major benefit of attending the University of Delaware.
