Health & Safety: During my time here there have mostly been thefts of on-campus residents by local criminals for petty items such as laptops, phones and other property. The campus itself is mostly safe.

Campus Food: You can find most of what you are looking for. Just know that you will most likely have to wait in line during lunch time at Trabant because it is the central student center and the layout is not well designed for drive-thru like speed or ordering. Dining halls are the best bet for variety and healthier options.

Guys & Girls: It seems the majority of the student body are involved in Greek Life. There are tons of fraternity and sorority members that all wear their lettered sweatshirts or tees. Those involved in Greek Life also seem to all dress alike as well. The guys will wear snapback hats and colorful shorts with boat shoes and the girls will typically wear oversized shirts/sweatshirts with their letters or their letters with leggings. Outside of Greek Life, you hardly see any guys wearing jeans anymore. Many guys wear sweatpants or athletic clothing and Delaware garb. Girls are a little more varied in looks.

Transportation: The shuttle bus is free and reliable and there is a smart phone app for added convenience. Multiple pick up locations and routes make it a lot easier than walking. For out-of-state students or for weekend excursions there is a recently added bus stop to take students to major cites nearby. Although there are no taxis, there are zip-cars but I am unsure exactly how the policy for them is. In addition, there are several local bus stops and train stations.

Drug Safety: From what I have seen and experienced, the drug situation on campus is not that bad. For the most part students will use marijuana or alcohol with the latter being much more visible. The campus has somewhat of a reputation for being a drinking and partying school but I feel it is kept in check not only by local law enforcement but by professors and faculty who advocate for making the right decisions. This is college after all, and experimenting will happen while we all transition into adulthood.

Scholarships: As a freshman you will be immediately considered for any form of financial aid through the university. I advise all entering students to take advantage of it and make the most of it. I had financial aid for my first semester only but was not able to keep the required GPA in my adjustment to college and it was quickly discontinued. Try anything and everything! I also had scholarships from private organizations that I applied for. It is very much worth the time and energy to apply instead of having to work a job or whatever may be the case while at school and trying to focus on doing well in classes. Many friends of mine, in addition to the aid they receive, still end up working part time to help mitigate costs. It is THAT important.

Off-Campus Housing: Off-campus housing is available but a little on the expensive side. It is advisable to have several roommates to share the cost of living. Transportation is close enough for the most part to take the free shuttle offered by the university. Parking is average for the most part depending on the location. There are a variety of options and many are recently built or are opening soon so that is a plus.

Campus Food: After having the freshman dining experience, I would have to say that I left less than impressed. Brunch in the dining halls is great on the weekends, and lunch is usually okay. But the dinner options although pretty varied, are not always the best. Lets just say I probably ate more pizza my first year than I did in my whole life before UD. But the school is so great you just deal with it. And it is definitely better than alot of others schools.

Technology: UD has pretty great wifi and computer access throughout campus. I've never had an issue with it, but professors arealso usually pretty understanding if tech issues do arise (even though it is very rare). But having your own laptop on campus is really important.

Overall Experience: My overall experience is great. I am getting a quality education from quality professors in their field. The campus is mostly traditional-looking but it has a beautiful history and look to it. While there are mostly old buildings, the campus is transforming and keeping up so to speak. The student body could be a little more diverse but I am proud to contribute to it and am thankful for the resources that are available to me. I know that my school places a high value on the experience and education of its students and I feel like I am getting both. It also doesn't hurt that the ratio of girls to guys is skewed toward the girls. The campus is absolutely beautiful in the spring.

Off-Campus Dining: UD has main st. literally right on campus which is such an awesome convenient way to take a break form the dining halls for the night. There are so many options and everything is really affordable for a college budget!

Guys & Girls: Delaware is a really attractive school. The guys are hot and the girls are gorgeous. The people in greek life tend to dress super preppy, and you can pick them out form a mile away. But there are also sooo many people who aren't involved that still like to put effort into their appearance which is also really nice. You don't really see people in their pajamas in class, so thats also always a plus.

Campus Quality: Delaware has beautiful facilities on its campus. Everywhere I walk I am constantly greatfull my school is so well maintained and gorgeous. The gym was just recently renovated and it is a great place to work out, and many of the academic buildings have such a beautiful old charm about them that makes sitting in class enjoyable.

Campus Quality: There is always something going on on UD's campus. I love that something is always being offered for students to do. Sports are really big at Delaware, but there is also a really great social scene outside of school sponsored events as well! There are always people out and about taking advantage of our gorgeous location, and it makes for a really great atmosphere!

Campus Housing: The campus is very large for a mid-sized public university. Living on campus as a freshman was OK when I was a freshman but the ones entering now have much better options as a few new dorms were just built and a new dining hall is under construction. The reason it was only OK is because most of the freshman dorms are outdated. Now however, they are starting to look a lot better. I really like the style of the new dorms they have built which are much like hotels with nice views. Ease of getting to classes all depends on which major you are and which dorm you live in on campus. If you're lucky your trip won't be far. The location of the major dorms are like a compass for the most part. They are placed on the north, east and west sides of campus. Sometimes it is a walk to get to class but the campus allows bikes and has a free shuttle, so that is a plus.

Diversity: While I will not say that my campus is not diverse, it could always be better. Just looking around in each of my classes and around campus one would notice that there are mostly white students and mostly female white students. However, there are many international students that I know are on campus that I don't often see. The majority of the international students are there for the English as a Second Language program (ESL). Economically, the campus community is very diverse. Many students have some type of financial aid or are working while many others come from well-off families who can afford to pay for most or all of their child's education. There are many in-state as well as out-of-state students. Sexually, the campus is accepting and there are groups that offer inclusion and a safe haven for those in the LGBTQ community.

Athletics: The biggest draw for athletics at my school revolves around the football team which is usually very good and has seen some players make it to the NFL including former Super Bowl champion and quarterback Joe Flacco. Most of the other buzz for athletics is for the mens' and womens' basketball teams which are doing very well, although they weren't always that way. Elena Delle Donne was recently drafted to the WNBA from my school and I think it's pretty awesome that I had the chance to see her play several times while I was in the pep band as well as sit next to her in one of my past classes. In all, the athletics and school spirit are mostly focused around football and basketball.

By the end of their years here, most students look back and are happy with their choice. They've received a good education and generally met some people with whom they will keep in touch for many years in "real" life. This love of the school comes about gradually for many students. While some students love it automatically and fit in easily with the relatively homogenous campus, others take longer to find their place and truly start to enjoy themselves.

While many students have a slow start here at Delaware, they all report that once they decided to give it a chance, they found their experience rewarding both academically and socially. This University tends to provide a nice balance between a social life and an academic one. There is always plenty of time to hang out and get your work done, so no matter what you are interested in, you have a chance to get it all done. This is the major benefit of attending the University of Delaware.
