Campus Food

3 College Junior

Campus Food: It's not inedible but it isn't great either. Choices are boring and bland and basically always the same and it's super overpriced.

2 College Freshman

Campus Food: Doesn't taste good, never have plates or silverware, too salty, no good vegetarian protein options.

4 College Senior

Campus Food: People here are always complaining about the food, but it's actually quite good, if a bit overpriced. There's a bit of a crunch right now because Pierce dining hall was taken down and the new one isn't built yet, so the dining halls get very crowded, in particular Bartlett. Staff are friendly, and all-you-can-eat is perfect for college students, as is Fourth Meal.

Campus Food: Cafes are god, but in general the dining halls are bad. Aramark is understaffed, underserviced, food is bad, bugs show up in food sometimes. Utensils are often dirty and missing.

Campus Food: I love the variety and availability of fresh produce. There are cuisines from many different cultures and there are stations that make for good old stand-bys.

The quality of the dining halls is continuously improving. The administration puts a lot of effort into student dining options, and when you visit your friends at other schools, you’ll definitely appreciate their work. The main dining halls are Bartlett Dining Commons, Pierce Dining Commons, and South Campus Dining Commons. Your freshman unlimited plan gives you access to all of these places. The food in the dining hall is pretty phenomenal. There is a huge amount of variety. Some of the students’ favorites are the Pierce Belgian waffles and Bartlett’s quesadillas. There are also new dining plans that are more geared toward upperclassmen. They have fewer meals per week but more flex dollars for the quarter.

In addition to the dining halls, there are also a lot of individual places on campus that have great food. The most visited is definitely Hutchinson Commons. This food court is where most upperclassmen have lunch. There are also cafés in virtually every building. They serve sandwiches, bagels, salads, and food from surrounding restaurants. All places on campus cater to restricted diets. There are kosher stations at every dining hall, lactose-free options, and vegan dishes. Hands down, the University of Chicago is not a place where you will go hungry or get bored with the food.
