Facts & Statistics

Tips for Getting In
  • Be involved in some important clubs or activities that demonstrate your interests.
  • Be persistent if you're on the wait list.
  • Don't be afraid to showcase your quirks; it will make you stand out from other applicants.
  • Get an interview with Admissions.
  • Just be yourself!
  • Prove that you are really challenging yourself in your current academic environment.
  • Put a lot of time into the essays, and have fun with them! UChicago loves creativity.
  • Rock the SAT and ACT.
  • Show an interest in going to the University.
  • Show you can think critically.
Things I Wish I Knew Before Coming To School
  • Hard work is just that-hard. Be prepared for it because compared to this, high school was a piece of cake.
  • There are a lot of social people who like to have fun, and it's not too hard to find them!
  • There is a great social scene in downtown Chicago that isn't as far away as it can seem.
  • You better love learning.
  • You should pick your classes based on student reviews of professors, which are available online. A bad professor can turn a great class into a terrible one.
Interviews & Information Sessions
Your best bet is to register on the Admissions website (in fact, it's preferred) at Information sessions are offered every day in the morning and early afternoon. Interviews are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. You can also schedule alumni interviews in your area (also online).
Campus Tours
Campus tours run weekdays except for major holidays. During the winter, tours depart after the morning information session. For other (warmer) seasons, there is an additional tour in the afternoon following the afternoon information session. Reservations are recommended but not required. The tours typically last about an hour. Sunday tours are offered, too. They leave from the Smart Museum instead of Admissions, and there is no information session.
Overnight Visits
To schedule overnight visits, go online to There, you can select a date to visit. A university student will host you, and you can come earlier in the day to do a tour, go to an information session, and sit in on classes. You can check class schedules at to get an idea of what classes you're interested in. At nighttime, your host will take over and show you a typical night at the University of Chicago.
