5 College Senior

Scholarships: I didn't have any trouble getting my awards posted to my account. I didn't qualify for any financial aid, but I did have scholarships that were very timely posted to my account each semester.

Campus Housing: Campus housing is a solid B. UCF offers several different price ranges for campus housing. You definitely "get what you pay for" in your dorm choices.

Local Area: Orlando is a huge city with so much to offer. The night life by UCF isn't as good as downtown, but if you're willing to make the 15 minute trip to the heart of Orlando, you won't regret it!

3 College Junior

Guys & Girls: There are so many women here and that is great for guys particularly if you are single

3 College Junior

Drug Safety: There are always going to be drugs or alcohol wherever you go but alot of the fun here is centered around drinking.

3 College Junior

Weather: The only thing that can mess up the day here is rain but other than that its fine. It very rarely gets cold and is very warm down here.

3 College Junior

Athletics: The sports are popular particularly football and basketball and a few athletes from UCF have made it to the pros.

Parking: It's terrible. You have to pay for a parking pass, but they don't have enough parking spots to accommodate a fraction of the students that may be on campus at one time. You have to plan on getting to campus early, or anywhere from 20-45 minutes before your class in order to give yourself time to find a spot. Or give yourself time to walk across campus to get to your classroom. Right now, one of the parking garages next to the building most of my classes is in is half under construction, so that's making it even worse in that area.

Off-Campus Housing: There are a lot of off-campus options around UCF, but there's always that one thing that makes you reconsider each option. Some places are a great location and price, but their surrounding area is sketchy and slightly unsafe. Some places are amazing, safe, a bit more of a drive, but quite expensive. The best bet is to find people you honestly get along with and rent a house, if you can.

Weather: This is just my personal view. I hate the heat and try my best to say out of the sun. I'm only still in Florida due to having Florida Pre-Paid. The heat can get pretty bad and it's hot 11 out of 12 months of the year, making walks across campus quite uncomfortable. Example, it's 82 degrees today, mid-January. UCF does have many trees and shaded areas that help this problem, though. It can rain at the most inconvenient times, as well. I just am not a fan of Florida weather.

Majors: I'm a Mechanical Engineering major, and so far I love it. I originally picked engineering because I didn't know what else I was going to do, but after starting my program I feel much better about my decision. If I could do it all over again I would have stayed with my same major, UCF has a great engineering program. I feel confident in finding a job, especially because the school is really involved with helping you find jobs after graduation. The only concern I have about my major is how much work it's going to entail. I'm only a freshman and I've already given up a lot of my social life in order to study.

3 College Freshman

Technology: The computer labs on campus are all pretty high tech and well equipped. They do make it so that if you couldn't bring a computer with you that you could still get by, however, they get crowded and as far as the Wifi goes, it works really well on main campus, but if you're in any of the housing communities, especially towers, it can be kind of weak in some areas, but once you get connected it's really reliable.

Academics: The university as a whole is great! There are endless opportunities for involvement and different programs on campus. Not to mention the professors that I have gotten to meet with have all been extremely helpful and truly concerned with our success.

4 College Freshman

Academics: I'm in the College of Engineering and Computer Science. It's a great program! There are so many opportunities for internships and help is around every corner. The professors I've had so far have all been great and willing to help. However, it is engineering so you can't assume there won't be a work load. There's a lot of work to be done and it requires a lot of studying, but it all pays off in the end.

4 College Freshman

Weather: It's Florida, so weather is totally unpredictable! The only downsides are the random rain and the killer heat in the summer. But I've grown up in Florida, so it doesn't affect me much at all. It can be hard to enjoy outdoor activities during the summer though. But for the most part, the weather isn't a big factor in campus experience.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: I live off campus, and I love it. I'd never live on campus honestly. It is WAY cheaper to live off campus and you get a bigger room, a kitchen, and the choice of who you live with. You have to do some searching to find off campus housing to fit your budget, but there is a place for every budget. Most of the off campus areas to live have a UCF shuttle that comes about every 15 minutes, so you don't even have to drive on campus! That's one of my favorite parts about living off campus. It doesn't make me miss out on any of the college activities because there's always a shuttle to take me back on campus.

2 College Freshman

Greek Life: I don't know much about the Greek life at UCF. I'm not a part of the Greek life, and if you aren't a member of it, you don't end up knowing much. Most of the people I've met that are friendly and personable that are a part of Greek life, but that's about all I know.

3 College Freshman

Majors: My program isn't too bad. Though it is a lot of work, there are plenty of opportunities to receive help and assistance with difficult classes.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: There are plenty of choices for off campus living. For example I just signed my lease for Orion which looks like a great place to live with free wood floor, a free tv, and generally great prices. However, I wouldn't suggest The Campus Crossings, they just had a shooting.

3 College Freshman

Academics: The classes are fine, however try to learn something about your professors before blindly enrolling in their classes because there are many that are "difficult to understand." It's also very important to enroll in classes early because many classes will fill up after the first week of enrollment so you can potentially end up with a very stressful schedule.

4 College Freshman

Academics: I'm majoring in Health Sciences/Preclinical and it's not too bad. the workload can be a bit much at times, but as long as you manage your time wisely and party mostly on the weekends you should be fine. Most of the classes are right next to one another as well, making the trip from class to class manageable too.

5 College Freshman

Diversity: There are plenty of people from almost every racial, ethnic, religious, and political background all around campus.

2 College Freshman

Campus Food: Campus dining is very convenient. Marketplace is open until midnight which is good for late night snacking but the quality of food is not worth the price you pay.

2 College Freshman

Parking: Depending on the parking decal you get it can be very difficult to park. Parking for students living in Libra buildings is very hard to come by. Must be willing to get to school early to look for parking.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: There are many options but not too many cheap ones.

UCF is growing by leaps and bounds. The students love to hang out, and they all know how to have a good time. There’s so much to do and there’s something for everyone. Do you really need any more reasons to go to college in Florida?

Orlando is an exciting city with tons of attractions and activities available to all. In many ways, going to school at UCF resembles a four-year vacation (Disney on Sunday, classes on Monday!). Downtown Orlando on a Friday night can, at times, seem like Mardi Gras, and City Walk on a Saturday night isn’t to be missed. Also, Floridians are welcoming and friendly and most students at UCF make friends quickly and easily. Friendly faces and sunny skies, what more could a college student ask for? The stellar academics, up-and-coming sports teams, and state-of-the-art facilities are reason enough to spend the next four years of your life at UCF; the city of Orlando is just one big fringe benefit. Come join us!
