Academics: To be an early childhood education major, you really have to be willing to put up with a lot of inconveniences. However, in my opinion, it is worth it. Meet with your advisor. You have to, it is a requirement, don't plan your schedule yourself or it is likely you'll be taking an extra semester. The coordinators want everything to be taken in a specific order and they aren't very lenient. The information on the major and requirements is all over the place, so don't expect to find everything you need. Attendance is mandatory. Never forget to submit your stuff to livetext or you fail. Check webcourses and your email everyday, because sometimes you will get random notifications about something happening that night in class. Your first internship (seminar) is longer than elementary education's, and almost everything elementary education does is different than what we do (SO DON"T LISTEN TO THEM WHEN THEY TELL YOU THAT YOU ARE DOING SOMETHING WRONG OR YOU HAVE TO DO SOMETHING ELSE).

On the flip side to all of the things listed above, the professors are amazing people who really know their subject and love it. If you love children and you want to be around others that truly love children, it is definitely a great experience. It is definitely a stepping stone for becoming a children's advocate.

Scholarships: There are so many students at this school that you really shouldn't expect amazing financial aid offers, especially if you are an "average" student. Most students I know have loans that they'll be paying back for years.

College Senior

Campus Housing: I haven't lived in campus housing, however I have been in a few of the buildings. From my experiences, campus housing is pretty similar to campus housing everywhere. Your roommate and what you choose to make of your situation are the main factors in livability on campus.

College Senior

Athletics: There is a lot of school spirit here, but personally I have very little experience with campus sports. I don't attend the games, and I don't really talk to anyone about them either. Therefore, I have very little to say on the topic.

3 College Senior

Administration: I really don't consider the campus "strictness" to be strict. The school is fairly lenient about varying student shenanigans. Then again, my perception of leniency could also be due to many students not getting caught breaking any administrative policies. Personally, I don't know of anyone and have never myself that has had a problem following administrative policies.

Party Scene: The party scene, much like the people, is pretty diverse. If you want a party, you can pretty much find a party. Whether the party is school sponsored or at a nearby bar, there are plenty of options.

Guys & Girls: The students at the school are so diverse that it would be hard to describe the typical guys and girls. Everyone's different and from a variant of walks of life. One day you can be sitting next to a stereotypical sorority girl and the next you can be talking to a foreign exchange student who still thinks American customs are strange. There are definitely a wide-range of different people at this school.

Majors: A typical teaching internship is a lot to handle. It is full-time and it makes it difficult to maintain a job, as you fulfill your internship obligations. They are unpaid. You are responsible for handling another teacher's classroom, although depending on the cooperating teacher you may not be given all the responsibility. Overall, it is difficult, but very helpful to your preparation for a career in education.

Overall Experience: The school is extremely diverse. However, the tuition rate is a little extreme for out-of-state students, like myself.

Campus Quality: I believe that UCF has great traditions, such as Spirit Splash. UCF does a good job at trying to get students involved.

Local Area: Orlando is a tourist destination which can get annoying during the summer time. But we do enjoy the parks throughout the year. There are also hispanic festivals due to the high number of latinos in the area. Most people avoid the alafaya (UCF) area if needed because of all the partying students are known for.

Scholarships: Paperwork was lost, or entered late. Could not get textbooks on time. No feedback on status.

Party Scene: This school has a HUGE party scene (there's always something going on) but I'm not a partier, so I can't really say anything more about it.

Greek Life: They seem like they're really big on campus, but all I really know about them is that they party (a lot).

Off-Campus Housing: It's pretty great, there are a lot of options just down the road. I don't know much else about it though, because I live on campus.

Local Area: We're in the heart of the tourist section of a big city, and very close to all the attractions, so there is always places to go and things to do!

Scholarships: It's just a confusing process, because the website does not list everything, so one page would tell me that I owed nothing, while another said I still owed money, so I never knew which to trust. Also, the tuition and housing departments are separate, so they bill separately and the fees show up on different pages, and it's just confusing to try to find out what you actually owe. Other than those issues, the rest of my financial aid went through rather smoothly (once I figured out what I actually owed).

Administration: Campus is pretty lenient on strictness. Alcohol is permitted in apartments if you are over 21, visitors are allowed as long as students clear it with the gatehouse beforehand, parking is not super-strictly enforced, and there is not a specific curfew, but students are asked to keep the noise level down after 12pm.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: There is a shopping plaza right across the street from campus that is full of dining options, including a NYPD pizza, Subway, and Publix (they have really good subs), and campus is located minutes from a number of other shopping plazas and malls that have a plethora of food types to choose from (most of them are fast food places or chain restaurants, but there are a few mom and pop diners around the area as well).

5 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: I attend a smaller/separate campus of a bigger university, and safety and security are a big deal on campus. The whole campus is fenced in, with a guard gate at the only entrance. The only way for someone to get into campus is to be a student with a parking pas, or to have a resident on campus call the guardhouse to let someone in. There are also emergency call stations all over the well-lit parking lot and I often see security patrolling. Needless to say, I feel 100% safe walking around campus at any hour.

3 College Sophomore

Majors: The only bad part about it is that some classes are only offered every other year, some only in fall or spring; the benefit is you are able to see an advisor any day without an appointment.

Party Scene: Many different places to party including the bars near campus, the only problem is if you are underage the police are usually near and will arrest you.

Off-Campus Dining: Lots of chains that offer specials for students, many bars to drink that offer great deals as well

Off-Campus Housing: There are so many robberies, parking is so hard to find, parties all the time, and a cap on utilities.

UCF is growing by leaps and bounds. The students love to hang out, and they all know how to have a good time. There’s so much to do and there’s something for everyone. Do you really need any more reasons to go to college in Florida?

Orlando is an exciting city with tons of attractions and activities available to all. In many ways, going to school at UCF resembles a four-year vacation (Disney on Sunday, classes on Monday!). Downtown Orlando on a Friday night can, at times, seem like Mardi Gras, and City Walk on a Saturday night isn’t to be missed. Also, Floridians are welcoming and friendly and most students at UCF make friends quickly and easily. Friendly faces and sunny skies, what more could a college student ask for? The stellar academics, up-and-coming sports teams, and state-of-the-art facilities are reason enough to spend the next four years of your life at UCF; the city of Orlando is just one big fringe benefit. Come join us!
