4 College Sophomore

Majors: My program is with the college of engineering. There is no application process really, the college just asks for you to maintain a 2.5 Major GPA in order to stay in the college on engineering and computer science. I believe there is no application process because the pre reqs to start any real engineering courses weed out the weak and only the strong survive. The pre reqs that everyone has to take before they start an engineering course is probably the most difficult part about getting into the college of engineering. I would advise finding a teacher who speaks good English or has their grading scale set up for success in order to make the grades you need to make. I would also advise getting to know as many classmates that you can because it makes getting through the classes a lot easier when you have someone you can converse with or partner up and get work done with.

Majors: I'm actually very pleased with my program. Nothing is unbearable at the moment. If I could do it all over again, I would and would not. I say I would because I would have definitely earned better grades in my pre reqs instead of just getting through them so I wouldn't have to go thru this current struggle of getting my GPA up. It goes down a lot quicker than it goes up. My career goals include owning my own engineering firm and making a huge difference in the world. I want to work specifically with renewable sources of energy and help countries that are in need. I would love to work as an engineer first before I delve into running my own company but only time will tell whether I can always work for myself or not. I don't have any concerns about finding work in my field because a mechanical engineer can be used everywhere. We are the leaders of the new age technology world, so without us, there would be no advancement in this world.

Technology: There are too many students at UCF for the wifi to suck as bad as it does now. I don't know why we don't have the best network coverage of any college campus. Tuition is increasing entirely too much for the poor quality services UCF provides. Stop being cheap and put our tuition money to better use.

Health & Safety: UCF is extremely open so its free game for anyone. There is a lack of security on campus and 2012-1013 school year was actually pretty nerve wrecking with all the bomb threats and the guy that got caught trying to shoot up campus and blow up the school.

Transportation: The shuttle sucks unless you live in Knight's Circle

5 College Sophomore

Diversity: UCF is the melting pot of all ethnicities.

Off-Campus Housing: It's usually expensive, but it's near the university so it's expected. Most complexes have problems with fire alarms going off frequently or noise, but that's expected as well.

2 College Senior

Transportation: The shuttles on campus are helpful- their schedules are inconsistent though. City public transportation is terrible. It takes 2+ hours to get anywhere and the schedules aren't reliable.

3 College Senior

Weather: It's Florida. The weather is bound to be unpredictable. But, if it does rain, it will probably rain for just an hour or so.

3 College Senior

Academics: The workload is strict, but you learn a lot.

3 College Senior

Campus Housing: It's significantly over priced, but convenient.

4 College Senior

Party Scene: The best bars and clubs are downtown, but that's not too far away.

3 College Senior

Drug Safety: The drug scene isn't too noticeable, but it's present. But there isn't any peer pressure about it.

Local Area: There's always something to do in Orlando. It's fantastic.

3 College Junior

Local Area: If you like city life, you like it here. Everything is at your disposal.

3 College Senior

Health & Safety: The Health Center offers many services, but a lot of them are mediocre and give terrible advice that, when meeting with a regular practitioner, is refuted. The campus seems relatively safe- I wouldn't walk alone at night if possible, though, and would be weary of the parking garages at night.

4 College Junior

Academics: The workload seems to be a lot of in classroom experience and the classes are fun.

3 College Junior

Technology: The computer labs and printing on campus are very good. However, my laptop cannot make a wireless connection no matter how many times I try. Some people don't seem to have this problem, but other times access is denied. It is important to always know your NID for access to the wireless connection, but overall a computer is not needed for classes. On the other hand, computers are imperative to out of class assignments.

3 College Senior

Athletics: The athletics on campus are very skewed towards football- most of the other teams don't get much support or recognition from the student body.

3 College Senior

Majors: The portfolio process for Graphic Design is very weighed towards those who take classes at UCF- so transient students will have a harder time. Though, it isn't impossible. Make sure you take the core classes at UCF if possible. Especially Drawing I and II.

3 College Senior

Majors: Some professors are the kind to choose favorites, but overall the ones in the upper level classes are pretty great.

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: You can find anything for any budget. It may not be the best quality, but it is definitely there.

4 College Junior

Diversity: There is something for everyone here. The campus is extremely diverse and accepting. Although some of the religious groups are a little overzealous.

4 College Senior

Technology: They're pretty great. They include great programs like the entire Adobe Creative Cloud.

3 College Junior

Weather: It's either extremely rainy, perfectly sunny, or scorching. You rarely see a day that could not be described by the first three labels.

UCF is growing by leaps and bounds. The students love to hang out, and they all know how to have a good time. There’s so much to do and there’s something for everyone. Do you really need any more reasons to go to college in Florida?

Orlando is an exciting city with tons of attractions and activities available to all. In many ways, going to school at UCF resembles a four-year vacation (Disney on Sunday, classes on Monday!). Downtown Orlando on a Friday night can, at times, seem like Mardi Gras, and City Walk on a Saturday night isn’t to be missed. Also, Floridians are welcoming and friendly and most students at UCF make friends quickly and easily. Friendly faces and sunny skies, what more could a college student ask for? The stellar academics, up-and-coming sports teams, and state-of-the-art facilities are reason enough to spend the next four years of your life at UCF; the city of Orlando is just one big fringe benefit. Come join us!
