Off-Campus Housing: Taking a day out of the semester to look for a new place to live and finding the best place for you is very important. You need to find the perfect cost and safety.

Scholarships: Anybody who describes their financial aid experience in college as great or amazing is full of...well yeah. But UCF for being such a big school is very efficient in seeing students and answering questions. But by no means does that allow you to just rely on the staff, do your homework/research and most importantly come prepared to ask questions, the best way to have an issue with the fin aid staff is by assuming they know your situation...because they don't and this has caused students (including myself) to have to wait for aid to be disbursed well into the semester.

Campus Quality: When talking about facilities on campus the crown-jewel has to be the Rec and Wellness center. It can accommodate students of every fitness level from the "I'm not sure what i'm doing but I want to get fit student, to the gym-head or fitness girl who's there 6 days a week". After the gym the Student Union and Library aren't far behind. The area around the reflecting pond is great for studying or just relaxing in between class and is probably the most scenic area on campus. There's always something going on around campus, just ask! When it comes to traditions we have the best one in the nation in Spirit Splash, just Google it. The "official" student hangout is Wackadoo's in the student union, but in seemingly every building there's a couch that you and your friends can make your hangout.

Campus Housing: If you have to live on campus, the school is taking major steps to make campus housing feel like the off campus apartments. The newest dorms Towers and Nike are very clean, easy to walk to and from class and you'll meet plenty of people. The downsides are well...everything else. They aren't the biggest, they are very strict with almost everything, and for the cost you may as well be living off campus if you know people or don't mind being matched with people.

Diversity: My opinion differs from a lot of students and even my friends, but UCF isn't the most diverse campus when it comes to ethnic/racial diversity and economic background. As stated there are 65,000 plus students here, so as a result you'll students of every race...that doesn't necessarily mean the school is diverse. It's a mostly white school. However if you are a minority (speaking as one) you won't have an issue seeing students who look like you. Economically speaking you'll see plenty of girls driving new cars that daddy bought them as a graduation gift or for their 21st birthday, and the guys tend to be on the upper middle class side of the economic food chain, but once again that doesn't mean that you won't find students who come from every background. Politically speaking the campus is pretty liberal but you have conservative students as well. LGBT students aren't parading their sexuality around for everyone to see, but they are there and more than welcome, the school has even opened up an LGBT study room (that's open to all students) but caters to LGBT students and holds events for the LGBT community.

Health & Safety: UCF is a wide open campus which is great as a student I would hate to feel closed off like other campuses I've visited. However this does mean that students need to take the common sense security precautions, although we have a large police force they can't be around 24/7 to make sure students are protected. Lock your car when parking on campus, try not to leave anything valuable in plain sight, don't walk around at late hours alone and especially with a ear-buds in both ears, that's just asking for trouble. I feel rather safe on campus and that's speaking as a student who has taken night classes that end at 9:45, gone to the gym at 11:30 at night having to walk back to my car in an empty garage, etc. There is crime on campus, once again 65,000 strong it's bound to happen, but I wouldn't even consider it a prevalent issue.

Off-Campus Housing: So living off-campus isn't just an option...it's the way to go in my humble opinion. Living on campus isn't horrible, but who comes to college to be supervised as if they were back under their parents roof? By my count there are 14 off-campus apartments who cater to students within a 5 mile radius either on Alafaya Trail or University Drive. So selection isn't a problem, however cost on the other hand is. The newest of apartments University House and Sterling Central come with amenities such as 36 inch flat screen TV's in your bedroom, tanning beds in the congregation area, etc, etc, but those things don't pay for themselves....cheapest rent there for a 4/4 is 620 bucks a month. Prices typically run between 950-325 bucks depending on number of rooms and which apartment you choose, but buyer beware, the lower in cost, the more sketchy the places become and unfortunately in my time here I've been around for hostage situations, sexual assaults, stabbings, but let me please emphasize that this can happen anywhere and is an anomaly that doesn't happen in the newer apts especially ones closer to campus. Parking can be a pain as it is with the entire school. The most convenient thing is that the UCF shuttle runs to all 14 of the apartments I can think of between 8 A.M. and 10 P.M.

Overall Experience: As a student there are plenty of options regarding majors, classes, style of class, style of professor, etc. Just be smart about it, use rate my professor wisely as it can be the difference to a semester where you're spending the entire night buried in the books in your bed or dorm room or being able to put in some quality study time and then enjoying what Orlando has to offer. Choose classes wisely because from personal experience not all classes are offered every semester and once again we're 65,000 strong with 47,000 undergrads so be prepared to sit in an auditorium with 299 of your not so-closest friends. Alternatively I've had classes with 10 students enrolled, but the majority of these are later in your major.

Overall Experience: Orlando is filled with diverse career prospects, but lets be honest, not everybody who is graduating college now a days is getting that dream job. The hospitality field is the dominant one as all of the tourist have to have somewhere to stay when the visit "The City Beautiful" so there's a hotel seemingly the distance from one camera light to the next going down Colonial Drive. Internships on the other hand are abundant, if the staff in your major aren't the most accommodating there's the career center on campus that specializes in helping students get prepared for life after graduation and making sure students get the internship experience they so desperately need.

Guys & Girls: This is a public university in Florida with an undergraduate population ranging somewhere around 47,000. I.E. there's plenty of girls to choose from. You have a wide array of types, of course you have your typical "I live in a bikini or at least that's what my instagram shows" because this is Florida, the girl who you never see out without her 5 inch heels and dress that's so tight she's struggling to breathe, but you also have many down to earth regular girls, plenty of nerdy or hipster types as well. The average girl on campus is dressed pretty low key, but once again this is Florida...when it's 92 degrees with major humidity out, the amount of clothing is pretty scarce, so you'll know what she's working with.

For guys it's much of the same, very diverse with a wide range but one thing is consistent...it's Florida so the majority of guys try to keep themselves in at least Tank-top shape. One major point worth making, this school may be in the top 5 for most superficial student population at least when it comes to appearance. Because we're 65,000 strong there's going to be a match for every type, however it's not uncommon to see the Rec Center/Gym twice as packed compared to the Library.

You'll find relationships on campus if you want, but if you're looking to just be casual, there's more than you're fair share of guys and girls looking to join you.

Off-Campus Dining: So you have your run of the mill fast food joints such as McDonald's, Burger King, Taco Bell, Checkers/Rally's which are great for being open in some cases 24/7 for that late night craving or needing to sober up from a night out, however the real value is in the abundance of local eateries, you've got Mexican, Italian, Asian, and my personal favorite Caribbean restaurants all located within 2 miles of campus off of University drive and they all offer discounts for UCF students. But the kingpin of all off-campus dining is Lazy Moon Pizza, you aren't a real Knight if you make it through your time here and don't go to Lazy Moon. The old location was very ummm "intimate" which is really code for tiny and got real cramped at nights, but that's what made it special, a bunch of students gathering for a slice, beer and great conversation. The new location thankfully is bigger, but still has the same qualities that makes the place special. Best deal is the 4 dollar slice of cheese and a beer, you can get an array of toppings and a New York size slice of pizza for roughly 7 bucks if you want to be fancy.

Local Area: UCF is located in Orlando, Florida....nuff said. Well since I'm being forced to elaborate, do the words Disney World, Universal Studios Florida, or Sea World ring a bell? They're all located here and although it's about 30-45 min to get to those attractions coming from campus, the student discount we receive more than makes up for the amount you will spend in gas and tolls (nobody takes local roads here, unless you are one of those people who actually enjoys sitting in ungodly traffic.) In addition to the major theme parks, you have plenty of options such as Wet N' Wild, dozens of mini-golf establishments, two major malls in Mall of Millenia and Florida Mall in addition to the outlet malls, Orlando Magic and Orlando City Soccer games, etc, etc. Most people are friendly towards students and as stated above we get discounts to basically everything. But beware, this is a major tourist destination so be prepared for all of these places to be crowded.

3 College Senior

Administration: The most policed thing on campus is by far parking, you may get away with it for half of a semester...but at some point in time if you're parked in an area that you shouldn't be in or especially without a parking decal you will get caught. This increases exponentially during sporting events or concerts. Following parking would be underage drinking and public intoxication during tailgate before football games. It's just as possible to make it through 4-6 hours of tailgating without getting caught if you're underage as it is to get caught, the key is not to be obnoxious or bring attention to yourself, which sounds simple but plenty of freshmen struggle with it. Also you can smuggle booze into Bright House for games if you're discreet, however if you get caught....there will be hell to pay.

UCF is growing by leaps and bounds. The students love to hang out, and they all know how to have a good time. There’s so much to do and there’s something for everyone. Do you really need any more reasons to go to college in Florida?

Orlando is an exciting city with tons of attractions and activities available to all. In many ways, going to school at UCF resembles a four-year vacation (Disney on Sunday, classes on Monday!). Downtown Orlando on a Friday night can, at times, seem like Mardi Gras, and City Walk on a Saturday night isn’t to be missed. Also, Floridians are welcoming and friendly and most students at UCF make friends quickly and easily. Friendly faces and sunny skies, what more could a college student ask for? The stellar academics, up-and-coming sports teams, and state-of-the-art facilities are reason enough to spend the next four years of your life at UCF; the city of Orlando is just one big fringe benefit. Come join us!
