UCSB is the epitome of the California stereotype. Due to its proximity to the beach, you are likely to see girls in bikinis and guys walking around shirtless on a hot day. The students here live for sunny days, and you can always find girls and guys tanning outside of the dorms and the same goes for off campus. The guys here are always looking for a reason to take their shirts off, whereas the girls need no reason to dress up. The majority of the students is physically active, too, which explains why the gym is always rat-packed. “Bro” and “chill” are words commonly associated with the guys on campus. Due to the high level of hotties, “pretentious” and “stuck-up” are terms that are usually associated with the girls.

You can find a relationship at UCSB, but don’t expect the typical dating scene. The word "date" is definitely not high up there in the vocabulary of these students. This campus definitely has more of a hookup culture, especially since much of the weekend revolves around the nightlife. At least one thing is certain: UCSB students do find each other very attractive. If you’re not looking for the shallow type, perhaps you should look for your significant other in areas on campus where you’re more likely to encounter someone with more depth.

Social Scene
Socially, UCSB students excel. Overall, people want to meet one another, so don't be surprised if you get invited to a keg party or an outdoor concert as you walk down the street. In fact, just walk into any big, open house party—you will most likely be welcomed and handed a cup.
Hookups or Relationships?
Hookups are absolutely the majority over relationships. To most students here, the idea of a romantic date is a 15-minute makeout session next to a crowded keg. Welcome to UCSB.
Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls
The best place to meet someone depends on what you are looking for. For a one-night hookup, a house party on the 6600 block of Del Playa is the place to be. For the miraculous long-term UCSB relationship, you're best off looking in class, a club, or at a local coffee shop.
Dress Code
Students dress extremely casual here—it can almost be described as "beach casual." For guys, board shorts, sandals, and shades are very common. For girls, sun dresses, sandals, and jeans are the clothing of choice. Do not be surprised if lecture hall feels like a fashion show.
