5 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: The health and safety environment on campus is good overall.

5 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: My room is so spacious, but some guys smoke pot overnight, which is so bad.

4 College Sophomore

Greek Life: Those frat guys are so cool, though some of them are naughty.

5 College Sophomore

Athletics: They're the best ones in our college, and I love them so.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: The overall experience of my college is not bad. Although some students always partying, most students study hard and play hard.

3 College Junior

Overall Experience: Class sizes are larger, and certain classes are difficult to get into. Quality of material being taught is good. Professors are usually helpful, but others can be difficult to deal with (material is presented very unclearly, timeliness and organization is very poor).

3 College Junior

Overall Experience: The student associations hold many career events for the students, however, they tend to be very exclusive to club members, or the variety of career opportunities is very poor (clusters of employers hiring one certain major only)

3 College Junior

Health & Safety: After the shooting, availability of counselling and officers increased on campus. My school has taken a lot of steps to make the students feel more safe, which is encouraging, but they could provide more help for those victims of sexual assault.

3 College Junior

Campus Housing: Student's hardly ever get their top picks, overcrowding in dorms, small rooms, and cost is high. The atmosphere is good if you're sociable. Housing is very close to classes.

3 College Junior

Greek Life: I'm not involved in Greek life, but the people I have met who are in Greek life enjoy it very much. However, they are mostly known for their parties by non-Greeks. They're many houses near campus dedicated to Greek life.

4 College Junior

Athletics: School spirit is high, especially given that we don't even have a football team. Facilities are well-kept and make for easy-access for athletes.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: People are friendly. Certain classes feel rushed depending on professor. Academic advising and departments are difficult to work with when you need paperwork dealt with.

5 College Junior

Overall Experience: Great food and lifestyle and the school is great!

5 College Junior

Overall Experience: Most students find jobs right after they graduate!

5 College Junior

Health & Safety: There are people on call 24/7 to help you feel secure. There are programs to prevent any harm.

5 College Junior

Campus Housing: I think housing is great! Some rooms may be very small but that is just part of dorm life and can be pretty fun!

3 College Junior

Greek Life: It is not a big deal if you are not into the Greek life. And the school does not revolve around Greek life.

4 College Junior

Athletics: This school is huge on soccer and the games are so much fun to attend. The gym here is large and has so much to do for the athlete and the non-athletes just looking for a good workout.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: I think I may be just used to Los Angeles living and that's why UCSB is not the best to me. But it has its nice perks like the beach on campus and great hiking places. Also, the people are very friendly in this area.

4 College Sophomore

Diversity: UCSB is an extremely diverse campus and I have not personally witnessed any instances of discrimination toward minorities.

4 College Sophomore

Party Scene: The nightlife in Isla Vista is pretty insane, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. However, nightlife in Santa Barbara is different. Almost all of the bars and clubs are 21+ so all the underage party life takes place in Isla Vista, the town that neighbors the campus.

5 College Sophomore

Party Scene: From personal experience, parties get fairly crazy. If I wanted, I could find a party every day of the week.

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: Drugs are definitely used by many at my school, but I would not say people abuse their use. I know plenty of people who do not partake in drugs.

5 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: CCS is a top tier program. Gives you the possibilities of schools like harvard / stanford

Ask practically any UCSB student, and he or she can give you a long list of things they love about the University, along with a few things they wish they could change. For the most part, UCSB is a college student’s haven with great academics, world-renowned professors, not to mention the great weather and laid-back atmosphere, and lastly who can forget the social scene? Some students describe Santa Barbara as paradise, but for those who quickly get over it and need a getaway, LA is a short one-hour drive south, while San Francisco is only four hours north. There are hidden treasures in Santa Barbara that you can explore and take advantage of while living there.

Do not let the weather and social scene cloud your judgment and decisions—take a deeper look at the school and ask the students. Chances are, the parties are not at the top of their list. Most students fall in love with their internships, clubs and organizations, and research work that prepare them for the real world. The most successful students are those who find a balance between academics and social life. The temptation to blow off school is present wherever you go, so the students pay extra attention to the work they produce. Overall, UCSB is the type of school that produces people that employers are seeking. You will find your fellow peers to be sociable and well-rounded in and out of the workplace. So although you may not get to experience game days like you would at a football school, there is nothing better than being able to catch a quick "surf sesh" before and after your class.
