3 College Freshman

Parking: Permit costs are extremely expensive and parking on campus is at hours that are not helpful

4 College Freshman

Transportation: Most people walk or take the bus because it is convenient and every thing really is super close. It would be nice to have a car but it's not needed.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: It can be somewhat difficult to get into the Greek life but most of them are welcoming and Non greeks are still friends with Greeks, there is no huge separation.

4 College Freshman

Diversity: There is a lot of diversity on campus and most people accept each other's viewpoints.

4 College Freshman

Campus Quality: The school has great programs such as engineering and economics and accounting degrees. Most students in these fields secure jobs before they even graduate.

4 College Freshman

Campus Quality: Some traditions are throwing tortillas during soccer games and signing the cheers. The library is one of the best that I've seen and is always a fun place to study.

5 College Freshman

Weather: The weather is always in the 70s or low 80s and since the ocean is nearby there is always days at the beach and surfing,

3 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: Most students just have causal hook ups and aren't looking for anything too serious. Most people are outgoing and there are a few religious groups on campus but they are generally small.

Campus Housing: The cost is pricey but it is college after all. The school has a very social atmosphere and there is always something new happening on campus. The best dorms for socialize would be Santa Catalina and for the quietest dorms it would be San Nicolas but still fun!

5 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I feel extremely safe on campus and they have this program that allows you to call campus students that work with the security and they'll come walk with you anywhere you need to go if you ever do feel afraid.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: The availability is great but the landlords aren't the best and the quality of the off campus housing can seem scary but the cost is cheaper.

4 College Freshman

Local Area: The town isn't huge but there is always things to do like walking downtown to see all the shops or going to the ocean. There's always something to do.

4 College Freshman

Technology: Most students buy their own computers but the wireless access on campus is fast and great!

3 College Freshman

Drug Safety: The students drink alcohol and have easy access to it. There are no heavy drugs seen in use and peer pressure usually doesn't happen.

3 College Freshman

Majors: It is difficult to get in to the majors because the college expects for high GPAs but the programs are some of the most prestigious so it's to be expected.

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: There isn't much of a variety or good tasting food for what we pay.

4 College Freshman

Administration: They don't really do anything. They shut down parties at 12 because of a noise rule, but that's about it.

5 College Freshman

Technology: You will definitely need your own computer (laptop). The wireless network is great, I get wifi practically everywhere I go.

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: So many places to eat if you are tired of campus food or you have the late-night munchies. Just ride out to Isla Vista and there are so many restaurants.

5 College Freshman

Athletics: Everyone goes to the games, unless they've got studying or homework. The sporting events are awesome, the student section is awesome, and we support our teams no matter what. GO GAUCHOS!!!

4 College Freshman

Transportation: There are bus stations if you live off campus or want to go downtown. Bus sticker is free for all students.

5 College Freshman

Campus Food: There are 3 main dining halls to go to everyday. DLG is basically the best one. You have so much variety and it is all you can eat.

Health & Safety: There are no crimes that occur at our campus. I feel very safe everywhere I go.

5 College Freshman

Academics: There are ALOT of internships to apply for. I get around 15 emails a week about different internships on my major, which is biology. The workload of a biology major at my school is somethings ridiculous, but you're in a prestigious school, what did you expect?

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

Ask practically any UCSB student, and he or she can give you a long list of things they love about the University, along with a few things they wish they could change. For the most part, UCSB is a college student’s haven with great academics, world-renowned professors, not to mention the great weather and laid-back atmosphere, and lastly who can forget the social scene? Some students describe Santa Barbara as paradise, but for those who quickly get over it and need a getaway, LA is a short one-hour drive south, while San Francisco is only four hours north. There are hidden treasures in Santa Barbara that you can explore and take advantage of while living there.

Do not let the weather and social scene cloud your judgment and decisions—take a deeper look at the school and ask the students. Chances are, the parties are not at the top of their list. Most students fall in love with their internships, clubs and organizations, and research work that prepare them for the real world. The most successful students are those who find a balance between academics and social life. The temptation to blow off school is present wherever you go, so the students pay extra attention to the work they produce. Overall, UCSB is the type of school that produces people that employers are seeking. You will find your fellow peers to be sociable and well-rounded in and out of the workplace. So although you may not get to experience game days like you would at a football school, there is nothing better than being able to catch a quick "surf sesh" before and after your class.
