Overall Experience: I absolutely love my school. The people are nice. The teachers and faculty are amazing and always willing to help when needed. The campus is beautiful. And it offers such great fields to go into.

Local Area: The amenities are there, but what makes the atmosphere above average is the proximity to the ocean.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: IV has its places to offer, but the bigger restaurants are in Goleta or downtown.

3 College Junior

Greek Life: It's recognized, but not required to have a good time at the school. In general Greek life and non-Greek life get along well.

Off-Campus Housing: Most off-campus housing is near IV. Although the student community is great, the University-owned apartments are much cleaner, even if they are farther from campus.

Transportation: For most Californian students, the train and ridesharing are the main choices. There are several sites where students can get a ride back home. Both are somewhat costly but it usually isn't a problem. Those who come home regularly tend to have cars.

Campus Housing: The dorms are really nice and the social atmosphere is great but I live almost 2 miles off-campus and it's a pain trying to get to class on time.

Health & Safety: I feel safe on campus, we're known for a lot of parties and excessive drinking but I don't see it as a big threat.

Off-Campus Dining: There are many places to eat in Isla Vista which is community adjacent to the campus. There are a lot of small food places that Santa Barbara is known for and the food is great.

Off-Campus Housing: THere are many opportunities to live off-campus. We have aapartments owned by the school, apartments owned by different companies, and even large houses for rent. Most places are very clean but are over priced.

Weather: My campus is located right on the beach and so the mornings and the nights get pretty chilly, which makes goin out at night a lot less appealing. The days are usually beautiful, very sunny but not too hot.

Technology: The computers on campus are in great conditions and the network connection is strong. Tech support is great. There many computer labs throughout campus and all are very clean and well kept. There also many printers available on campus. A student without a computer could get their work done relatively easily.

Weather: The weather here is beautiful. Sun is always out. There is always a balance between the sun rays and the cool breeze. And not to mention the fact that there is a beach on campus. This outstanding weather contributes to the positive mood of myself as well as my peers. Santa Barbara is known for its weather and in fact I believe that the weather is perhaps what makes it one of the best campuses in California.

Scholarships: I do not qualify for any aid.

4 College Freshman

Administration: Alcohol and drugs are not allowed in the dorms, but otherwise, they are lenient.

Greek Life: Greek life adds to the party atmosphere. There is no real Greek row.

Ask practically any UCSB student, and he or she can give you a long list of things they love about the University, along with a few things they wish they could change. For the most part, UCSB is a college student’s haven with great academics, world-renowned professors, not to mention the great weather and laid-back atmosphere, and lastly who can forget the social scene? Some students describe Santa Barbara as paradise, but for those who quickly get over it and need a getaway, LA is a short one-hour drive south, while San Francisco is only four hours north. There are hidden treasures in Santa Barbara that you can explore and take advantage of while living there.

Do not let the weather and social scene cloud your judgment and decisions—take a deeper look at the school and ask the students. Chances are, the parties are not at the top of their list. Most students fall in love with their internships, clubs and organizations, and research work that prepare them for the real world. The most successful students are those who find a balance between academics and social life. The temptation to blow off school is present wherever you go, so the students pay extra attention to the work they produce. Overall, UCSB is the type of school that produces people that employers are seeking. You will find your fellow peers to be sociable and well-rounded in and out of the workplace. So although you may not get to experience game days like you would at a football school, there is nothing better than being able to catch a quick "surf sesh" before and after your class.
