4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Gaucholink has a list of jobs and they frequently have career fairs and meetings discussing post-grad and how to find jobs.

4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I feel very safe on campus. It's important to be careful and smart though to prevent possible issues.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: I'm not very involved in the athletics at the school but the facilities are great and the sporting events are popular and fun.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: Greek life is pretty much the same here as it is anywhere. I just dislike Greek life in general but people involved in it seem to enjoy it and their housing is nice.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: There are lots of nice off-campus housing options and the school definitely helps you with signing leases and all that.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: There are plenty of great dining options in Isla Vista. Plus SBMenus delivers right to your doorstep so that's very convenient.

4 College Freshman

Administration: As long as you follow the rules, you won't have any problems. If you break the rules, you might get caught and if you get caught, you could get in some trouble but mostly not too bad.

Party Scene: I personally am not a big partier but a lot of people here are. You definitely don't need to party to enjoy UCSB though. There are parties basically every night and the best ones are on Friday and Saturday on DP. Partying doesn't negatively affect most people because they are still able to do well in school and it's actually pretty positive impact because they have a lot of fun.

Campus Food: The dining halls food is not that great. The variety is pretty decent but the quality is okay, but could be better. Their menu is not that great. Portola is the worst dinning commons and DLG is the best in my opinion. The other food places on campus are pretty good.

Campus Housing: I like the dorms I live in a lot. The residence hall is very nice and resort-like. The pool, fitness center, and study areas are all great. I do wish the rooms were a little bit larger but this is a typical size for a dorm room so it's okay. The social atmosphere is great but I would have liked to be a bit closer to campus.

Scholarships: I didn't get any financial aid, so this doesn't apply to me.

College Sophomore

Party Scene: I'm not into the party scene, but there are parties every weekend.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Food: The dinning commons are great at first because it's buffet style, but it gets bland later when you see the same menus over and over.

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: You get to know people in your hall really easily in freshmen dorms, and the beach is within five minutes of walking distance.

4 College Freshman

Campus Food: The campus food has great locations throughout the campus. Whether you need a coffee or snack before class, your most likely to find it within close proximity.

5 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Santa Catalina has the most spacious suit style rooms with your own bathroom(share with another room), pool, fitness center, dining commons, and pool with mini cabanas... What more can you ask for?

Overall Experience: I'm from the midwest but I knew I wanted to come to Cali. I made the jump and I'm so glad I did. Love everything about my experience. The people are amazing, the campus is gorgeous, the beach is amazing, the professors are excellent. You really can't go wrong here, there's something for everybody to love.

Overall Experience: UCSB has an excellent reputation around the world.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: Frat parties are always fun, but frat life's not for everyone. Greek life is definitely available to those interested, but it's absolutely not something that's required to have fun.

Ask practically any UCSB student, and he or she can give you a long list of things they love about the University, along with a few things they wish they could change. For the most part, UCSB is a college student’s haven with great academics, world-renowned professors, not to mention the great weather and laid-back atmosphere, and lastly who can forget the social scene? Some students describe Santa Barbara as paradise, but for those who quickly get over it and need a getaway, LA is a short one-hour drive south, while San Francisco is only four hours north. There are hidden treasures in Santa Barbara that you can explore and take advantage of while living there.

Do not let the weather and social scene cloud your judgment and decisions—take a deeper look at the school and ask the students. Chances are, the parties are not at the top of their list. Most students fall in love with their internships, clubs and organizations, and research work that prepare them for the real world. The most successful students are those who find a balance between academics and social life. The temptation to blow off school is present wherever you go, so the students pay extra attention to the work they produce. Overall, UCSB is the type of school that produces people that employers are seeking. You will find your fellow peers to be sociable and well-rounded in and out of the workplace. So although you may not get to experience game days like you would at a football school, there is nothing better than being able to catch a quick "surf sesh" before and after your class.
