Off-Campus Dining

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: I think around the surrounding La Jolla area, there is a lot of variety.

4 College Senior

Off-Campus Dining: There's good food around but it can be kind of pricey and La Jolla shuts down too early (even on the weekends).

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: It's just pretty average. The places around here are just average, the food is average. To get something I like, I have to go to Convoy, so it's like a 15 minute drive. But overall, I would just say it's average. All the yummy food, you need a car in my opinion unless you're willing to take the bus

5 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: It's San Diego! There is so much to see and eat. The location is prime for great food to eat. Sometimes you have to travel, but it's completely worth it.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: There are a variety of options available, if you have a car. If not, then buses and Uber tend to be your only options. Both are limiting in their own way, thus restricting students to the more common restaurants available within walking distance of campus. But most of the food is better than on-campus, and allows a nice change of scenery.

Since the first thing on many starving college student’s minds is where their next meal is coming from, it is reassuring to know there are so many delicious places to eat around campus and farther afield. You can find almost any type of food just minutes away from campus. Everyone agrees large chain restaurants are always a safe bet and have a great selection. La Jolla is known for its lack of fast food, so be prepared for a big check if you plan on eating out in La Jolla.

For those of you a little more adventurous about your food choices, many students say that some of their best meals have come from finding smaller restaurants on side streets. There are tons of cafés and sandwich shops lining the streets of Pacific Beach and Mission Bay. There is great Mexican food available in San Diego all day, everyday. The consensus around UCSD is that there is nothing better than a burrito or carne asada nachos for a study break, after a party, or before class.
