4 College Freshman

Health & Safety: Safety is rarely an issue here. It's in a good neighborhood and UCLA PD is really close to the school. There's a escort service for people who walk back from school to their dorm/ apartment, and sexual assault awareness is pretty big on campus.

Majors: There's a lot of work, but a lot of opportunities and cool things about the department.

4 College Freshman

Scholarships: There are a lot of options open for the financial aid part of school. The scholarship resource center is there to help out personally with scholarships and the financial aid office has a lot of help too.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: They are a prevalent part of campus and I think some of them actually do some pretty neat things for the community other than just throwing crazy parties, but the housing is definitely nice, especially sorority row.

Party Scene: There are a lot of parties going on, especially Thursday and Friday. Not really my kind of scene, so I wouldn't know how to judge it very well. I just know it's some pretty intense partying though.

5 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: There are a lot of variety right outside of school, all within walking distance with reasonable pricing.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: There is a lot of involvement in sports, especially basketball and football, but the other sports seem to be overshadowed by those "big" sports. In terms of fan support and school spirit, there is a ton of that on campus.

5 College Freshman

Athletics: UCLA has 111 NCAA Championships, more than any other institution in the nation. School spirit is natural here. Bruin pride. 8-CLAP!

Off-Campus Dining: There are plenty of off-campus dining options for students. Westwood has fast food, fine dining, and everything in between.

4 College Freshman

Local Area: Westwood offers a vibrant atmosphere for bruins. The nightlife is good and there's always plenty to do.

3 College Freshman

Party Scene: The parties always happen on days when we have class the next day (for no apparent reason). A great deal of people (embarrassingly) go to USC frat row on the weekends for parties. Some apartment parties will happen on the weekends, but Thursday is the most popular party day.

Academics: The professors here are top notch. The workload is challenging, but doable. Enrollment is intense; almost like The Hunger Games but for classes. Professors are usually fairly flexible with their office hours, and want to help students in any way they can.

Campus Housing: The dorm life is great at UCLA. Despite the unflattering walk to classes, the UCLA housing community offers incredible dining options, a wonderfully open social atmosphere, and convenience stores to pick up necessities.

Scholarships: While UCLA was the only school to offer me sufficient financial aid, it was a hassle at times ensuring that all of my scholarships were accounted for properly.

3 College Freshman

Local Area: People are very racially indifferent, it's Beverly Hills.

4 College Freshman

Administration: Some are ignorant, some are understandable

5 College Freshman

Health & Safety: There are all sorts of safety commissions!

5 College Freshman

Athletics: It's fun to always have a winning team.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: They have hidden responsibilities to keep the scholarship you have.

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: They only clean the bathroom. I thought at this price I could maybe get a vacuum of the living room or something.

2 College Freshman

Greek Life: They stay together and are very racially inclined.

4 Recent Alumnus

Administration: It's overall pretty great or I just have a great floor.

3 Recent Alumnus

Greek Life: I don't know. I guess it's good.

3 Recent Alumnus

Party Scene: It doesn't look great or bad, just normal and average.

5 Recent Alumnus

Campus Housing: I live in Gardenia. It is the Best!

Smack dab in the middle of Los Angeles and on the list of America's top colleges, UCLA is a school for those who want to have a blast while focusing on schoolwork. Although course registration is a battle, classes are crowded, and the registrar is impersonal, students praise the wisdom of their professors and feel that a UCLA degree will open major doors in the job market. The quarter system moves fast and tests tend to sneak up stealthily, but this allows for more experimentation when choosing courses and far less boredom. With more than 100 majors to choose from, the campus is bustling with students of all ideologies, races, and academic interests, making rousing discussions an everyday experience.

One of the nation's few top-notch universities that isn't private, UCLA is a place for those who want to learn more than a textbook contains. There’s pressure to shine socially and academically among the approximately 25,000 high-achieving Bruin undergrads, but there are plenty of campus organizations that give students a go-to friend group in the midst of the giant student body. However, it's up to the students to scout out and take advantage of all opportunities because nothing is handed to UCLA students—they must learn to navigate around red tape, persist through budget cuts, find parking and housing in Westwood's winding streets, and steer toward success. And how do they celebrate their successes? Parties! Whether through the semi-dominant Greek system or at a laid-back dorm gathering, UCLA students know how to put the books aside for a night. Overall, Bruins play nearly as hard as they work, making UCLA one of the most well-rounded schools imaginable.
