Overall Experience: I am a distance learning student so I do not get to experience on-campus interactions. I believe I have a great, upcoming internship and I look forward to continuing my studies here.

Scholarships: Plan ahead of time. If you take loans or have money from grants, make sure to have some set aside for summer sessions or they will not apply it.

Health & Safety: There is an online and phone call alert system which enables students everywhere to know about safety issues on campus and in the surrounding areas, weather alerts and problems, as well as police alerts. The administration regularly sends information about expected behavior and the work being done to prevent crimes of any kind on campus.

Overall Experience: The majority of my educational courses have been very good with professors who work with you and talk with you about ways to improve your teaching experiences. I had a few electives where the teacher did not seem prepared in having his materials ready online, never posted graded material or gave feedback, and took a long time to respond to emails. But other than this one frustrating course, the others have been very beneficial and I now have several new resources to use in my teaching.

Off-Campus Housing: The University offers resources on off-campus housing, but always do research yourself. There are many options that vary in distance, cost, safety, etc.

Academics: There is a wealth of knowledge available at the Capstone, however you may have to seek it out. Workload is moderate and many classes have small study groups.

Scholarships: My grades offered me a lot of scholarship money, however I could have gotten more. Definitely consider looking into all the available scholarships.

Athletics: Most of the campus revolves around athletics (mainly football), and most students are involved in the atmosphere of game days and seasons. The facilities are top notch, and the teams definitely show that. Students tailgate and watch sporting events with friends, and are an integral part of the events themselves.

5 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: The dorms are super nice. There is only one or two dorms that are not preferable. There is a new student activity student near the dorms with brand new workout equipment, just for freshmen.

Local Area: The people are the most unique part of the city. The local atmosphere is good, but the general hospitality of the people is the best part of the city.

Greek Life: I don't have much of an opinion as a GDI, but it is pretty big, but is really diverse.

5 College Freshman

Athletics: Definitely a sports centered school. Athletes get incredible benefits.

Campus Housing: Freshman are required to live on campus and I actually really enjoyed it. Very convenient and has a lot of perks.

Off-Campus Dining: Tuscaloosa has some great local food places and is a good mixture of local and chain restaurants. I do wish that we had more nice dining options.

Scholarships: I worked hard in high school and was awarded a full-tuition scholarship for my GPA and ACT score. In addition to my PACT money, I paid for nothing.

View student contributors

University of Alabama students constantly brag about their school’s traditions and spirit, and their pride is shown throughout the town. Some say it’s the incredible education that drew them here, and others say it’s Bama football that brought them to this Southern school. But no matter what reason these students choose to come to UA, most believe it was the best choice they could have made.

After graduation, some students get a job, some further their education by going to UA’s grad school, and some even go to UA’s law school. No matter what the students decide to do with their future, they believe Bama has prepared them for it. Students advise upcoming freshmen to walk around the Quad, visit the Strip, or watch a football game to understand why so many love UA.
