Party Scene: There are several great parties throughout the week. There are several times a year that popular artists and bands are at fraternity parties. There are also some great bars very close to campus but those are more of the upperclassman scene as the bars are pretty strict when it comes to underage drinking.

Guys & Girls: There is a variety of students on campus. If you try to seclude yourself, you can definitely find yourself in a particular setting of only white, wealthy people or only black students or international students. An open mind and attitude is essential. Students at UA love football. We typically like to have fun and to party. It is easy to find students with similar interests though.

Parking: If you live off campus and buy a commuter parking spot, there are plenty of spots but the lots can be pretty far from campus. I got lucky in getting a spot in the closest parking spot, but many people have to ride a bus.

Diversity: There is still quite a bit of segregation in the state of Alabama. There has recently been some breakthrough in the Greek system which we are proud of, but it is difficult to break such an old trend.

Campus Food: It is annoying that freshman are required to buy an overpriced unlimited meal plan. However, the Dining Dollar system works really well on campus at various a la cart places such as Chick Fil A, Panda Express, and Subway. The dining halls are okay but the one near the majority of the dorms does not open for breakfast. Also, that one is so big and populated that it often runs out of plate, forks and cups. The food is decent but does not change very often and lines can be ridiculously long.

Off-Campus Housing: You have to start looking for off campus housing in September if you want to get something close... especially the houses right by campus. Most off campus housing is pretty close and will run about $450-700 in rent a month. There are a lot of options available and the school does an off campus housing fair.

Campus Housing: Most of the on-campus housing is new and apartment style. Each room has 4 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchenette with a sink, microwave and full refrigerator, and a living room. Each are fully furnished. They are now building a smaller rec center for only on-campus students that will open Fall 2014. Parking is readily available and pretty close to the dorms. All dorms are within walking distance to classes and dining halls. That being said, the apartment style dorms are a little more on the expensive side.

Greek Life: Greek Life at Alabama is top tier. We have some of the largest numbers and houses that go along with it. Greeks are everywhere you look and make up about 40% of campus. The programs are pricey, but they also include a meal plan.

Overall Experience: I love this school. The atmosphere on a game day is one of the best in the country, the Greek Life is top tier and the Southern hospitality is seen everywhere. That being said, there is more to The University of Alabama than just football. The pursuance of excellence radiates throughout the university. Within every department, within every classroom, growth is apparent. There are new buildings being constructed everywhere you look and the enrollment numbers are skyrocketing.

Local Area: Tuscaloosa revolves around The University of Alabama. Very few of the restaurants or shops in town would be there without the school. The Strip and Downtown have been well adapted for college students. However, more than a mile or two off campus starts to become not so nice of a part of time.

Academics: The accounting program at UA requires an internship to graduate. The career center is there to help with that and they do a great job. Also, the accounting program has a specific adviser that only works with accounting students. She is an expert with all the classes necessary to graduate on time. The professors in the accounting department are great. They are willing to help at any time and work diligently to make a stereotypically boring major interesting. I stumbled into accounting, but I am very happy that I did so.

Academics: The registration process is broken up by credit hours so it works well as to not overload the system and encourage students to stay on track. The workload is fair and the professors are always willing to work with students individually. Some of the basic curriculum has departments that do not fair so well and grading is not as objective. Also, there should be a required personal finances course offered.

Weather: Its wonderful until you are in the spring semester and then it's unpredictable.

Academics: Social work is a very respected program at the school and prepares its students to be the best in the field.

University of Alabama students constantly brag about their school’s traditions and spirit, and their pride is shown throughout the town. Some say it’s the incredible education that drew them here, and others say it’s Bama football that brought them to this Southern school. But no matter what reason these students choose to come to UA, most believe it was the best choice they could have made.

After graduation, some students get a job, some further their education by going to UA’s grad school, and some even go to UA’s law school. No matter what the students decide to do with their future, they believe Bama has prepared them for it. Students advise upcoming freshmen to walk around the Quad, visit the Strip, or watch a football game to understand why so many love UA.
