5 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I have really liked and worked well with the majority of my professors. There's generally a bad apple or two, but I work hard and maintain good grades. My classes are difficult, but I don't shy away from the challenge. Everyone seems to really know their topic, and help is usually available in one form or another.

Overall Experience: My school is known for getting graduates and undergraduates a job right across the finish line. That makes me feel even more prepared for the world because I know I already have a good foundation to stand on by attending a university.

Health & Safety: I am an extremely aware person, and I have self-defense training. Since I am confident in my ability to protect myself, I generally feel safe. I'm also not stupid, so I avoid running around alone at night, I know my way around, and I always have my phone on me. I also keep an eye on the safety boxes around campus. I choose my friends carefully, and I trust my gut. I also don't drink or attend parties. I feel like campus safety is decent, and some of the precautions are helpful, but some are just lame. Card readers on parking garage doors is silly, and will not really help that much in the long run. Help boxes all over the place are kind of reassuring.

Campus Housing: I am in the new resident hall, and I love it. Yes, that may partly be because it is brand new, but I still love living on campus. It's the best for grabbing something to eat, being close to classes, studying with friends, and really submersing yourself in the experience and community. There is even honors housing, which I think is great. I an going to be an RA next semester and I'm really excited about it.

Athletics: I don't have time to attend a lot of sporting events and stuff, but I see the spirit and support everywhere. It kind of amps up the overall environment because it does provide another common ground for students. I enjoy the sporting events, and I like the school spirit.

Overall Experience: I chose my school for the diversity and academic opportunities. I have reached out and done a lot of work in the community, met a ton of people, taken advantage of opportunities that I didn't even expect to receive, and loved every second of it. Living in the dorms has been a huge success. It's great to learn how to live on your own (with a roommate), clean up after yourself, take care of yourself, and still not be afraid to ask for help and rely on others to understand and support you. I love living in the city as well. There's a unique coffee shop or restaurant around every corner, and you never know who you may run into where or when. It's a lot of fun, an incredible college experience overall, and a marvelous adventure.

Diversity: Most people are accepted everywhere. Very very few people oppose certain religions.

Drug Safety: I do not do drugs, but I know people who do and it sometimes seems like they have easy access to it.

Overall Experience: Professors are very into all students, despite the large capacity of the university. My experience with the professors are they want you to succeed and that is very comforting.

Athletics: Athletics at my university is as important and diverse as any other institution.

Overall Experience: What I love most about my current university is that it is a part of the my job that I am currently working in as a medical assistant. Being that the school is connected to my job, it pays for fifty percent of my education, which is very helpful.

Campus Housing: I love living in my dorm. We have nice RAs, I get to live with my friends, and I get my own room! Throughout my entire collegiate career, I haven't had to use communal bathrooms, which is wonderful. 10/10

Greek Life: I'm not Greek, but I have Greek friends and I go to Greek parties. Greek life doesn't really make or break your social life.

Overall Experience: I really do love UAB. Physics lab could use just a bit more work, but the teachers are engaged and it's not hard to find a professor who really cares about your future.

Health & Safety: Because we're located in downtown Birmingham, safety is a big issue on campus. Many things have happened in parking decks (which tend to be targets in general because they're dark and difficult to escape) on campus and on the streets of downtown. However, in spite of the area, I have never had a time where I did not feel safe while on campus. I am always alert and aware. If I'm walking across campus after dark, I have a friend on the phone in case something happens and I also keep the UAB campus police numbers (both non-emergency and emergency) in my phone if I need them.

Overall Experience: My experience at UAB has been eons better than what I experienced at my previous universities. UAB faculty is dedicated to its students success and the school offers fun but challenging courses that engage me and peak my interest. For example, I recently was able to take screenwriting as an extra class as a way to push myself in my writing and found it to be both fun and helpful. If I could go back, I would've started off at UAB and never gone anywhere else first.

Health & Safety: I feel completely comfortable walking around campus when it is dark outside. There are help boxes all over campus; you can always see at least four. Police are available 24 hours a day, and will even act as an escort if you are out late and don't want to walk back alone.

Overall Experience: At first, I was doubting my choice of schools, but after the first week, I had no doubts whatsoever that I had chosen right. This school is diverse, fun, interactive, and much more. Most of the professors are great and passionate about their teaching. So many classes are available, allowing for many different majors to converge and explore.

5 College Freshman

Overall Experience: This school is in direct partnership with hospitals, so medical internships and job opportunities are very easy to come by.
