Last year, our school lost its bowling, football, and rifle teams, which started a huge uproar in the city, especially our school. Over $22 million dollars have been raised so far and the teams have been returned, which is allowing for more attention and participation for students and people in our city. Our basketball team was #1 in the country last year, and have one more game before that title is restored to them again. This year, students have broken school records with their enthusiasm and attendance at sporting events, getting out national attendance and a closer, more supportive student body!

UAB is an incredible school for many people. It is not a typical campus, but it offers a great deal of experience that I feel isn't available at many of the other universities in Alabama. In Birmingham, one gets to experience a diverse population whose influences can be seen on campus from the vast Latino groups, clubs, and dancing to the Greek Food Festival. In addition to the multicultural aspect, it is notable that UAB has a fabulous medical educational and research background. In fact, most people who are anticipating a career in something health related choose UAB. UAB is currently leading the research of clinically proven effectiveness of the treatment of kidney disease. There are so many jobs, internships, and places where students can observe their future careers; large and small businesses located in the downtown area and UAB's vast hospital network are only just two of the many options. UAB is an incredible school to devote to. Our basketball team is also amazing!

My overall experience of UAB is it's great. Don't get me wrong, it's not perfect, there are plenty of things that could be changed but nonetheless I am content with it. Although we did not have a football team for my first year there, they still found other fun ways to keep us involved. Basketball at UAB is a big thing, our men's basketball team won some type of championship and their games are always pretty lit, plus you get in for free! What makes my school unique is the family feel you get whenever you step on campus. Just about everyone is super friendly and willing to help you. The atmosphere is really nice and there are plenty of activities to get into. If I were a senior in high school and had to choose which schools to apply to all over again, I would definitely still choose UAB. Here is perfect for me being that I am choosing to go into the medical field. They have a really good medical program and I can't wait until I fall into it.
