3 College Freshman

Athletics: Before the president of the university cut the football team i would have said it was great or the best but the fan support and school spirit against the decision has made it more bearable. The students have backed other sports and attendance has increased since that decision. The students are really involved and passionate about sports.

Off-Campus Dining: There are a variety of fast food and sit down restaurants with reasonable prices and within a reasonable distance.

Administration: Some campus rules are too strict in my opinion. The president recently made a horrible decision affecting student's social lives by cutting the football team as well as the bowling and rifle team.

4 College Freshman

Scholarships: The process was very easy to me

College Freshman

Party Scene: I know there are parties frequently but they are very poorly spread throughout the student population so I don't have much experience with the party scene and feel that my rating would be skewed if i did rate it.

3 College Freshman

Campus Food: The Common's food is very inconsistent. The Den is my favorite place to get food.

Campus Housing: The best part about our dorms compared to other schools is that we don't have community/floor bathrooms but instead have a bathroom shared by two residents in most dorms. Also, the dorms make a good effort to have many community/social events within the dorm for its residents.

Greek Life: I didn't join a sorority until my sophomore year. I was one of those that looked down on Greeks as shallow, party animals-wasting their time and money. Then I met a lot of people that I NEVER would have associated with Greek life and realized not all sororities and fraternities were like that, I just needed to find the one that was the right fit for me. That said, Greek life at UAB is not a big deal-not like it is at Alabama or Auburn. There is no pressure to join one, people don't care if you're in one or not. Fun fact: there are no Sorority houses at UAB because 6 or more women living together in a house in the city of Birmingham is considered a brothel. Seriously.

Party Scene: I'm not a partier. I do belong to a sorority and my boyfriend, a fraternity, so we attend those sponsored "events", but that's really it. We live off campus this year and both work, who has time?

Health & Safety: Hey, it's an urban city. You're not going to walk alone at night in any city, anywhere. I've always called for an escort when I left work at night. Sometimes they kind of gave me attitude, like I was an imposition, but after the horrible incident in the parking deck, their attitudes changed.

Majors: As a theatre major with concentration in production and staging, I had to "audition" to be accepted and also for available scholarships. This meant an interview with the faculty and a presentation of my portfolio-in front of everyone else applying. Be professional, be prepared, be ON TIME, bring your parents (they get to go on a backstage tour of Alys Stephens!) and breathe!

Academics: Many just think of UAB as a medical school. I'm going because of their amazing theatre program. I was recruited by many schools, but UAB was my top choice. The dept chair has won a Tony Award. Theatre UAB brings in visiting directors, choreographers, playwrights from all over the world.

Athletics: Without a football team now, maybe people will start attending other games, but I kind of doubt it.

4 College Sophomore

Scholarships: I receive scholarships, loans, stipends and work study monies. Some have been a bit of a challenge to chase down when the promised money doesn't show up in your account. I found the the name of the bookkeeper in the department of my major-she's become my best friend! If she can't "fix" the problem, she'll put me in contact with the person who can.

3 College Sophomore

Administration: I agree that strict rules must be enforced when it comes to alcohol and drugs in dorms, but I was written up because I left a sleeping (overnight) guest in my room (with my roommate) while I went down to sign another quest out. That was a bit extreme, I felt.

Athletics: We've recently gone through a debacle over losing our football team. However, the students, alumni, staff, and community have rallied around other sports and are pushing to get football back.

Party Scene: There are some good parties throughout the year, but this is not a party school

4 College Sophomore

Scholarships: There are really good academic scholarships, although it's almost impossible to get a full ride. Other scholarships such as departmental ones seem abundant, but with so many students, it's still really competitive.

Local Area: There is definitely plenty to do since Birmingham is a bustling city. There's plenty of restaurants, shopping malls, and clubs to keep just about anyone entertained.

Academics: This is a school for people who prefer academics over social scene. The school is more focused on science than the liberal arts

4 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Housing on campus is really nice. The only problem I have with it is how expensive it is.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: The professors here are very kind and work well with the students

2 College Sophomore

Greek Life: If I planned on joining a fraternity in college, I would have gone to school somewhere else.
