For freshman, there are two options available, Indian or State Quad. Most students tend to prefer Indian for the dining hall claiming it is better, but both are great. Room sizes may run small sometimes no matter what Quad you are on, but sometimes someone will get lucky with a large one. Suites and communal bathrooms are available and the floors are not limited to one gender. The majority of a floor often gets the communal, while the rest get their own bathrooms. Most halls provide water fountains, some do not contain lights, they are all relatively close to classes, and most halls are quite social. Roommates often become your best friend. Leave a door open sometimes and let people in to make friends. RAs provide programs to help their floors get closer. Dorming is an amazing experience! The housing process isn't too bad either. As a freshman, you are given a limitied number of options for preference, such as in a tower or lowrise, or on Indian or State, as well as if you are asking for a single room or not. After freshman year, the choice is given directly to you, so do research! Housing is available based on needs, GPA, and number of credits, but everyone picks who they want to live with, and exactly what room they want.

Overall my experience as a first year student here at UAlbany has been great! The first few week was a little difficult as I was still getting used to the idea that this is where I will be living for the next four years. However, as soon as I was able to sign up for clubs and I was able to meet new people it started to feel like home. I recommend everyone to be as involved as they can, but not to the point where if affects their personal and academic life. As for classes they are all going well, the professors here are wonderful and know what they are doing. I'm really glad I chose to come to SUNY Albany, it is a great school. The only thing I didn't really like was the fact that all the buildings look exactly the same, but I've gotten used to it.

My experience at UAlbany so far has been an eye opener. I've met so many new people from all over the place, including other countries. The campus is so beautiful. The professors have all been so welcoming and helpful. I've definitely gotten tired of the dining hall food already , but the campus center right in the middle of campus offers so much great food that I can eat instead. Overall, it's been a good experience!
