Party Scene

{{ error }}
2 College Freshman

Party Scene: Parties are overcrowded and repetitive. If you've been to one, you've been to them all. They are sweaty, packed dance parties to top-40 pop, where everyone is hammered and looking to find a hookup.

Party Scene: Off-campus housing probably won't be a thing by the time you come to union if you are a prospective student. But on Union avenue Campo can't break down parties unless its Schenectady PD who have bigger things on their plate. So for the time being, Off-Campus houses are the best place to go to when Frats aren't throwing down. It is hard to get into a frat as a freshman guy. You will need to know someone for a lot of the time, also may have to wait (which blows in the winter). Go with a group of girls and sometimes you can get in with them. Girls usually always get in unless. The parties are really fun to go to.

Party Scene: The best part about the night life at Union is getting to see familiar faces and spend time getting to know people from all over the country (even world). Being such a small campus, its a great feeling to get to know people on an academic level AND a social level. The best parties were always at Old Chapel (reggae, hip hop, bachata, salsa), TDX (Pop, Rap, 90's, Hits, House) and Ozone (EDM, Electronic). I was never a big drinker and I still had a lot of fun going out and dancing, catching up with friends. The only downfall that I would say Union has for nightlife is that since it is small, there does come a brief point where you get a little bored with going out all the time.

Union definitely has the reputation of being a party school. Wednesdays are the new Thursdays. That is when everyone goes out just because it works into most people's class schedules better. Monday is also becoming a "go out" night, but Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays are usually when you will see the most students out at night. Chet's on-campus bar is open Monday (in the spring), Wednesday (always), and Friday for happy hour (always).

Students will usually drink somewhere with friends (depending on your age) and then go to Rupsis or Geppetto's (if they are looking for a bar). If you don't drink, there are usually non-alcohol related activities happening around Union from campus movies (which show every weekend) to concerts and comedians. If you look for it, you can find it. There are students who choose not to drink, and no one really pressures them to get wasted, though many students choose to drink. The comedians are great, and the movies are usually pretty good, but don't expect to find many `cool' parties late Friday or Saturday night without alcohol being served.

Party in the Gardens is probably the most popular event thrown every spring at Union. The school sets up tents in Jackson’s Gardens and students get dressed up to dance the night away under the stars in a beautiful setting. Club U is typically for the newly-arrived freshmen to get together and dance in the campus center for the evening, but usually upperclassmen go as well. There are also semi-formals here and there, but for the most part, if you’re stone cold sober, you’re not in the majority.

Bar ListingsWhat's This?

Rupsis Tavern

Rupsis, which has been around since 1940, is known for its wings. The tavern offers a 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Friday happy hour, during which you'll get free pizza and wings, and discounted draft specials. Try the chicken dough bake.

Geppetto's doubles as an inexpensive pizza place and a popular bar. It's available for parties and events, and often features live music on the weekends, in which case there's a small cover (usually in the neighborhood of $5).

547 Nott St.

(518) 382-9066

This is the primary Union student hangout, mostly because it's cheap and located right on campus. Plenty of clubs and frats hold events there, and the bar often hosts live bands.

Stay on campus or go to a frat party. You can make a Saturday night fun by catching the 10 p.m. movie on campus and then chillin' in someone's room.
