Drug Safety

3 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: In my circle of friends, there is little peer pressure or drug use, but it varies.

5 College Freshman

Drug Safety: There are people who drink and there are those who don't. Many club get togethers involve alcohol or weed but you are not pressured to have it.

4 College Sophomore

Drug Safety: Tufts has recently updated policies for drinking that include amnesty for helping drunk friends. We have a good response team, TEMS, and many students are treated fairly by administration when dealing with drinking problems. 93% of students at Tufts do not let alcohol affect their academic performance, and for the most part this is true. If you are in a frat, you will drink. Some girls in sororities drink, but not all do, and you can still partake in student events without drinking and no one really cares.

Drug Safety: There is a lot of marijuana use but I have never been pressured to take part. I feel like there is more pressure on alcohol; if you do not drink, you might feel left out of the small social scene we have.

One thing’s for sure: There isn’t any social pressure to do drugs at Tufts. As a matter of fact, students here could very well go their entire college career without seeing anything more than alcohol and cigarettes. However, this isn’t to say that Tufts University is a modern-day Pleasantville, either. Generally, where there is smoking and drinking, marijuana isn’t far away. Tthere are also a few rich fraternity boys here and there that are known for their coke habits.

Overall, though, there aren’t a lot of chain smokers or coke users on campus, though alcohol and marijuana are somewhat prevalent. The average Tufts student will probably drink on weekends and smoke from time to time, but as for the drug scene, there is virtually nothing to worry about. There’s no need to use anything to fit in. In fact, the crowds that use illegal substances are mostly isolated from the rest of the student body.
