Guys & Girls

3 College Senior

Guys & Girls: depends on the type of person you are into. there is a wide variety of people at truman.

3 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: There are a few diverse styles and there are many students from other countries but the school still isn't that diverse. People stay in clicks or with their own race which is something that bothers me.

3 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: Sometimes it's hard to meet guys outside of your program unless you go to parties.

3 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: IT's a typical hipster school i feel like.

4 College Junior

Guys & Girls: There are more girls than guys. Overall it is widely acceptable to wear sweatpants to class.

Eh—that's all that can be said. There's nowhere else to go once you're in Kirksville, unless you make friends with the med students at the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine, so everyone tends to adopt a love-the-one-you're-with perspective. The guys may not be buff, and most of the girls aren't models, but there are some remarkably attractive people walking around, if you're looking for the kind with black-framed glasses and an iPod in tow. People have been known to go to Mizzou, an hour-and-a-half drive, for the purpose of a good hookup. Rumor has it the students there are twice as pretty and twice as dumb.

There's a 6-to-4 ratio of girls to guys, so a lot of single girls aren't happy with their classmates as far as looks are concerned. But there are very happy couples with a remarkable variation in traditional attractiveness. And it seems that anyone can find a willing makeout buddy on a Saturday night if they're looking for a meaningless good time. However, you're more likely to study what makes someone sexually attractive (a 1.618 ratio between certain facial angles and a 0.7 waist-to-hips ratio for women, in case you're wondering) than to find a wide selection of specimen. There may be many fish in the sea, but Kirksville, unfortunately, is as landlocked as they come.

Social Scene
An advantage of attending Truman is the friendly atmosphere that accompanies the small campus and town. The easiest way to get assimilated into collegiate culture is to participate in Truman Week, the adjustment period for freshmen. Everyone waves to everyone else, and the upperclassmen become your allies. Almost every student seems to have been an overachiever in high school, so there's no stigma attached to being studious. Jocks have computer science friends, and anime addicts date Republicans. But students who want a wide circle of friends will have to go looking.
Hookups or Relationships?
Hookups are pretty frequent. The morning walk across campus in heels and smudged mascara or a crinkled shirt full of tequila stains following a "sleep over" has been decreed the Walk of Shame. Yet, more than 1,500 people at Truman will list their Facebook status as "in a relationship." Hmm . . . .
Best Places to Meet Guys/Girls
Sadly, the library. While it's a bit cliché, most students date those with similar interests. However, meeting a potential boyfriend or girlfriend at a party is not uncommon, especially at smaller get-togethers thrown by mutual friends. Alcohol, or just the general tone of a weekend night, makes it easier to open up and get to know people. Fair warning though: It might not be smart to commit "dormcest" and date your next-door neighbor. If the relationship goes sour, he or she can still see you with bed hair or sans makeup.
Dress Code
Lots of fraternities and sororities require weekly dress-up days, so you're likely to see sport coats and stilettos from time to time. As far as the non-Greek population is concerned, jeans are uniform, and sweatpants come in second. But there are many students who dress sharp every day, so expect button-down shirts and cashmere in some classes. During the winter, everyone gives up on looking good because no one can see clearly out of their puffy coats and scarves anyway.
