Overall Experience: Just saying "I went to Truman State" can get you an interview, and it's well earned. Truman makes sure that we are well prepared for the work force and have a broad education to prepare us for anything that might come our way.

Campus Housing: Our campus housing is pretty great and you can find the right building for you! There are community style places, suite style, apartments, and lots of local rental property too.

Greek Life: I just joined ASG and it's amazing! We don't haze or do initiation nights. Most of the Greek life at Truman is the same way and super awesome. We have honors frats (mixed gender), service sororities and frats, as well as social ones. Everyone is pretty polite and we all have great risk management plans in place. I feel really safe in Greek life, so I encourage people to join.

Athletics: While Truman is definitely more based in academics, they are always encouraging their students to stay fit and healthy. We have a top notch Recreation center and a beautiful Quad where we can lounge, play things like frisbee, and even with peoples' pets.

Overall Experience: Truman is a great college that really challenges its students. There are over 200 clubs and organizations on campus and everyone here is super friendly. I have always felt safe on campus, and as a female that was really important to me. I will even walk across campus by myself in the evenings or go downtown alone on a sunny afternoon. Kirksville isn't super lively, but if you get out there's more going on here than you might think. Truman offers so many degree programs and it's fun to find your niche. I highly recommend checking it out!

Health & Safety: Whenever we get a sexual assault email from the campus safety department, there is always information how to go about reporting sexual assault. In my three years at Truman I have only received a handful of sexual assault emails. Two were last week and one resulted in an arrest of the offender. All around campus we have these big red emergency stations that have a button and will alarm the police to your spot, and I am pretty sure they make loud noises too. I feel safe walking on campus because I know I can run to one of those stations.

Overall Experience: It is hard to get into classes, especially being a student athlete and only have certain hours of your day available. The psych department does not allow overrides and I have had a big issue with that going into my senior year and graduating in December. Other than that experience, my professors were always nice and willing to work with my athletic schedule and the class sizes allow for that connection with multiple professors.

Overall Experience: I have already as an undergrad been able to substitute teach and I know friends who graduated and got jobs within the next year to start teaching. There is job opportunities always available on this campus, with the career fair, alumni networking, and the networking that classes set up for you. My education classes have in observing in La Plata and I have made great network connections out there from the secretary, the SPED teacher, the principal, and teachers throughout the building. Truman offers many opportunities for their students and want them to succeed.

Campus Housing: I lived in Dobson my freshman year and then lived off campus, so my only experience is that dorm. The rooms were very small, but the bathrooms were always clean and the staff were super nice! The SA's were friendly and welcoming and I wish I had taken the time to get to know them better. The cost wasn't too bad but it is a little cheaper living off campus. The dorms are all super close to the class buildings so that is nice and the housing process isn't hard at all. Overall it is good.

Athletics: As I mentioned I am on the swim team, while the pool has been renovated and the locker rooms were just redone last year, it took awhile for the school to get on that. The bottom of the lockers had rusted all the way through so there was holes at the bottom. It took about four years to get new ones (according to the seniors last year). It also is unfortunate that we only have one bathroom stall in the girls locker room and it is a public one so there has been times when while we are at swim practice people have came in and stole stuff, boys and girls locker rooms. The fan base for swimming has improved but it doesn't compare to other sports and we don't get as much recognition as we should. Truman athletic twitter account took a break from posting about our conference meet that we won, to post about the boys basketball game that was at home. It is also unfair that our boys swim and have no scholarship money what-so-ever. I love my team and it is a family but we do get the short end of the stick a lot.

Overall Experience: Truman has great degree programs, a great reputation, the faculty are always willing to work with their students, and it's easy to get involved. As being part of the swim team I have made a friendships that will last a life time. Everyone cares about each other and work to be the best we can be inside the pool and out. I would choose Truman all over again because I know this is where I belong.

Party Scene: There's as much nightlife in in the dorms via study groups and interest groups as there is drinking, smoking, and other non-school sponsored activities.

3 College Student

Party Scene: The fraternities throw the best parties, and sometimes the nonalcoholic parties are the most fun.

Academics: You have to work for it, but Truman is recognized as the Harvard of the Midwest for a reason. Employers and graduate schools recognize the prestige of a Truman degree, and job offers follow suit.

Diversity: We have everyone here, and (although some specific groups clash, as they always will, like the political groups) there are rarely ever any issues amongst different groups. Truman is diverse in the sectors of nationality, ethnicity, religion, political standards, sexual orientation, and professional interests, all of which are well represented by clubs.

Drug Safety: I've never heard of drug problems or alcohol busts on campus, or any problems stemming from the use of drugs or alcohol on campus. All such activities usually occur and stay off campus, but even then are very minor and infrequent, and more prevalent amongst the town's residents than among students.

Health & Safety: Truman is a pretty quiet campus, and the population is small enough that there are no concerns over its students. However, there are several emergency posts available all over campus and cops do patrol around campus at night.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: Truman offers challenging and insightful courses in its curriculum. No matter what major you are, there are equal amounts of work and passion put into obtaining an education. Most of the professors take their work seriously and dedicate time to both their students and studies.

Campus Housing: I live in Dobson Hall, and it has a very close-knit atmosphere depending on which house you belong to. And, though it is one of the older buildings, it has the best location out of all the halls and is one of the cheapest places to live. It also offers great convenience because one of the C-Stores is located in Dob, easy for quick shopping.

3 College Freshman

Greek Life: I'm not in a social fraternity (AXE, professional chemistry fraternity), but Greek life does make an impact on campus. Some of the most popular events are held by them, and best parties are hosted by them too. There is only Greek housing available for the fraternities--there are no official housing for the sororities.

4 College Freshman

Athletics: Though our sports are not the biggest focus on campus, they still matter to the general population to the extent that games are always packed with fans. Especially the football games are exciting between the actual game and the spirit. Our athletes perform to the fullest with great dedication and skill.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: At first, I didn't know what to expect because I didn't even visit Truman when I chose it. However, it turned out to be the best decision I could have ever made in my life. I'm getting my money's worth out of this school's education, and the people here are friendly and determined to make the most out of college.

Athletics: Love being involved in the sports aspects. I play a club sport and utilize the rec.

Overall Experience: The nursing program thus far and what I hear is great. I love the campus. I also love that I am being pushed to take classes outside of my field and comfort zone. I love being on the Ultimate Frisbee Team.

If you ask a Truman student why he or she is at Truman, as opposed to a different college, chances are you'll hear, "It was the money." For in-state kids, Truman is a fabulous deal, especially because the school gives out so many scholarships. When push comes to shove, that's why a majority of students initially enroll. But however majestic the buildings are, how impressive and wonderful the professors are, or how many scholarships are awarded, it's the other students who make or break the college experience. Truman students are a pretty motivated, involved, and accepting bunch of people.

If you choose Truman, be prepared to delve whole-heartedly into college life because there's not much to do outside of the University. But there is always something to do on campus: movie nights, plays, concerts, karaoke, lectures, and demonstrations for every interest under the sun. A lot of colleges claim to be involved in student life, but Truman definitely makes good on its own assertion. While many people scorn finances as a top reason to choose a school (and perhaps they're right on principal), it makes life a lot more comfortable to be able to afford dinners in restaurants, laundry, and printer ink while receiving a top-notch education. If you want to be a famous lawyer, by all means, look at Harvard. If you want to make it big in the music business, you'll obviously consider Berklee or the UMKC Conservatory. But you have just as high of a chance at achieving anything you want with a diploma from Truman State University, an opinion received from both employers and graduate schools alike. Truman fosters a sense of responsibility, real companionship, and a thirst for excellence that you won't find in more pretentious institutions.
