Overall Experience: Trident Technical College has a Student Employment office right here on the campus that assists students with finding part time or full time employment and career opportunities to help students earn more money while they go to school. The Student employment office has many different connections with business's and other organizations and institutions that will network with major companies to help get students jobs and career opportunities after they finish their program of study or major field of study that will earn them a degree or certificate. Trident Technical College also has work study jobs available as part time employment options to help give students new skills, or to develop or sharpen the skills that they already have. I currently have a part time job as a Security Officer that I work part time on nights and weekends, and I also have a part time job that I work for my school's institution as a computer systems and operations lab assistant and technician, where I earn extra money from the school and help students that need help with computer systems and operations that involve the schools Information and technology operating systems, and programs.

Online Courses: I haven't taken any online courses with the School that I am currently attending; however I have taken online classes through American Military University (AMU). I took these classes while I was still on Active Duty, I found the online courses to be quite challenging and the work load was a lot for me at the time, because I was working a full day at work, and then after being out training with my Marines all day long and running around and getting things done that I needed to do for the day I had to force myself to sit down and try to focus on getting my studies done and working on papers, and discussion boards and other assignments. If I had a question that I needed to direct towards my instructor for that class, I had to send him/her an email and wait for a response which could take up to a couple of hours or a couple of days to get a response and to have my question or questions' answered. I did well in all of my online classes but I prefer to go and sit in a class and have the opportunity to ask questions and get responses and answers to my questions right away and to have a better understanding of what I need to do in order to get my assignments done in a timely fashion and to ensure my work is done correctly and that it is quality professional work, and that it will meet the standards and expectations of my instructor. I wrote a lot of papers for my online classes, one paper in particular I received a horrible grade on this paper, the topic was on the Attack of Pearl Harbor, I wrote a great paper; Turned out that the formatting for the paper was done incorrectly which was supposed to be in the Chicago Style format, and I used the MLA format. I had no idea what the Chicago formatting style was and I had a lot of questions. There was just so much confusion and I had to do a lot of extra research on the this style of formatting. My instructor let me reformat the paper and resubmit the paper for another chance at getting a higher grade.

Tuition & Financial Aid: The Financial aid and Veteran's assistance at this institution is above reproach. I have talked with several of the advisors and counselors here at Trident Technical College and everyone has been extremely helpful with providing tips, steps and the process for applying for as well as checking eligibility and status for applying for additional financial aid such as a Pell Grant or any other scholarships. With the Post 9-11 GI Bill education Benefits that I receive each month, The Department of Veterans Affairs pays for my College tuition each semester and they also give me a monthly Housing Allowance to help with the cost of living and other monthly expenses, that money alone was not going to be enough to cover all of my monthly expenses, and I would require additional financial aid such as a Pell Grant to help me out with my monthly expenses, food, gas, cost of living, and other monthly bills such as car payments and insurance, cell phone ect.... In order to apply for this Pell Grant I had to fill out a very long application and I submitted a very long detailed document that justified and supported my reasons in which I would need additional funding to help me out with my cost of living and other monthly expenses. The reason was I had a lot of debt upon getting out of the Marines after 10 years of service, I had a truck, motorcycle, enclosed motorcycle trailer for hauling my bike, insurance for all of those items, and credit card payments, and loan payments that I had to make monthly payments on. I made more than enough money while still on Active Duty to cover my monthly expenses, getting out of the Military and using my education benefits and only getting money from the VA for my housing allowance rated at $1470 /per month for going to school for a FULL MONTH). If I went to school for anything less than a full month I would get a pro-rated amount. The money I was eligible to receive from the VA was substantially less than that of which I was paid on Active Duty.

Academic Experience: I haven't started my Air Craft Maintenance program yet, but this School has one of the best programs for Air Craft Maintenance technology that was created to support and train candidates to be selected by Boeing to join their team right here in Charleston SC. The Air Craft Maintenance Program here at Trident Technical College have all of the planes, engines, equipment and tools necessary at their Berkley Campus to properly train personnel to become certified Air Craft Maintenance Technicians and mechanics with the certification of the AMP (Aircraft Maintenance and Power Plant Certificate). This is a certification takes 18 months of training and is recognized and approved by the FAA to certify that the individual who obtains this certification is qualified and properly trained to be an Air Craft Maintenance Technician.

Academic Experience: The Academics offered at this school is outstanding, Trident Technical College has over 159 different programs of study to choose from. I was amazed at all of the different options and choices available to all students of all different backgrounds and areas of interest to choose for their majors. Getting out of the Marine Corps last Oct after serving 10 years on Active duty, I was really not sure what I wanted to go to school for. I knew that I wanted to live in Charleston SC, and that I wanted to find a job that would keep me in Charleston SC. I heard about the company Boeing that is based right here in beautiful Charleston SC, I didn't have the required skills and knowledge that would help me to get a job at Boeing and I really didn't know much about the company accept that they build and repair Airplanes. I wanted to find out more about the company. I talked to my girlfriends next door neighbor who was an AMP certified Aircraft Mechanic at Boeing and he loves his job, he was a veteran that served in the Army, and he went to school right here in Charleston SC, at Trident Technical College and went through the Air Craft Maintenance program that was offered by the school. My neighbor told me that it is a huge work load and that the program to get the AMP certification takes 18 months, (nearly two years to complete). I was very excited about this opportunity. I found out who my student advisor was and got the ball rolling and signed up for classes and got my name on the waiting list for the Air Craft Maintenance program, my student advisors' have been extremely helpful in guiding me and helping me to choose my academic plan and path of classes and courses to help get me ready for the Air Craft Maintenance Technology programs. I am due to start my Air Craft Assembly courses in late May of this year ( only a couple of months away). I start my Air Craft Maintenance courses in August of this year.

Tuition & Financial Aid: I live at my house with my parents, and we barely make it month to month. Sometimes we have to go without electricity so that we can afford to eat. Although there are students that are receiving financial aid, that are way better off than my family and i financially.

Career Services: With it being my first year at trident, i am not too sure what after-college possibilities they provide just yet.
