4 College Freshman

Academic Experience: The classes stay up to date with new trends.

4 College Freshman

Overall Experience: I'm glad I decided to come here before attending a 4-year university. The classes are worthwhile if you put in the time but don't expect to be spoon-fed.

3 College Junior

Overall Experience: Some of the teachers are pretty lenient and the coursework is light, I'd like to get more legitimate college professors.

3 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: its really great if you want to get your gen ed classes out of the way.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: This is a great school to start out at. I myself do plan on transferring and in the State of Virginia. Thomas Nelson is only funded 36% by the state and still they have excellent opportunities. Class sizes are smaller so the professors acutely know there students they are not just a name on a form to pass or fail.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: There are a few really creepy guys here. Makes me wonder if the school does background checks because one guy I met was recently arrested for rape and I had a lot of trouble getting him to leave me alone without involving campus police.

Overall Experience: Thomas Nelson Community College is a good community college as far as community colleges go. Last year, I studied at the HT campus and this year at the Hampton Campus. HT campus is definitely nicer but they offer fewer classes than the Hampton campus. They're both clean and well-taken care of. I generally always feel safe walking around the campuses both in the day and at night, and I have made quite a few really great friends. The professors are helpful. Don't underestimate the workload simply because this is a community college, though. It's a good transitioning school.

3 College Freshman

Overall Experience: It's a good place to get your gen eds out of the way.

4 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: College is rewarding, expensive, and forces you to mature and grow up.

3 College Sophomore

Overall Experience: This school has a lot of system issues when it comes to administration and registering for classes, but once classes start it is easy breezy.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: It has a variety of studies. I switched once.

1 College Senior

Overall Experience: Thomas Nelson has been nothing but a money pit. The advisers here tell me to take one class and as soon as I pay for it and start it, they tell me that I don't need it anymore for my major. I don't even go to the advisers there anymore. I go to the adviser at VCU to see what I need to properly transfer. The Hampton TNCC is a complete joke.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: Most of the teachers here are helpful and friendly.

5 College Freshman

Academic Experience: I have had the best teachings with certain teachers, therefore this rating is them.

3 College Freshman

Campus Resources: Typical Community College experience, but well worth joining clubs within.

3 College Senior

Overall Experience: A student can aim higher with the right program and having people support them from behind. Students taking out time from their jobs or family and taking the initiative to learn something in school, study and test their knowledge is an effort to achieve the degree they seek in their selected school.

Online Courses: The first time I took an online course was last year in the spring. I thought it would be hard seeming how it was a two part itclass, lecture and lab. When taking a course in class, there are students that you can befriend immediately, talk to the teacher, ask questions, get help understanding the problem or assignment. A class on campus is more convenient and easier to relate because its more hands-on. Online, its completely different. A student will be independent and it may take days for a professor to reply back via email if the student is in need of aid. Interaction between students and the teacher can be followed up either by their school email or their black board's discussion board. From my experience, the workload is relatively similar to the traditional classroom experience, as long as the student follows up with the syllabus and the assignment schedule. As for registering for the class, just make sure you sign up early and lock in the course you want to take. There is a site for students to check out the professors that will be teaching them by the reviews of previous students. To say the least, online courses are also convenient when you have access to the computer and won't have to waste gas commuting to school.
