Academic Flexibility at Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising - Los Angeles: The problem with having such a small major is that I don't have freedom to pick the days or times of my classes. This is very frustrating because if I wanted a consistent schedule or to pick certain days, I can't really do that. I prefer morning classes and this quarter I have two late night ones. I've adjusted to the times, but it's not what I want.

Overall Experience at Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising - Los Angeles: My favorite experience has been working in the studio. It is so much fun to be able to work with the same tools I will be working with for my profession and to be taught how to use them and the proper care for them.

Overall Experience at Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising - Los Angeles: The teachers at FIDM are mainly people who have been in the business your major is in or in the fashion industry somehow. Class sizes depend on the major. Mine is not as popular as the fashion or marketing majors, so my classes tend to be ten people or less, and I prefer it that way. It feels like we are a family and are always helping each other out.

Overall Experience at Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising - Los Angeles: FIDM holds job fairs at the beginning of each quarter, so theres constant ways to find work that way. We are required to have an internship in our second year which we have career services help place us with. They always work hard to find the best suited for you and are very friendly. After graduation, FIDM helps place you with a job and the alumni network is also helpful when it comes to that.

Student Body at Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising - Los Angeles: The best part of attending FIDM is the acceptance of all students and majors. No matter what classes you're taking, everyone always thinks everyones projects are outstanding, which they are. We mostly have girls attending but there seems to be a lot more boys lately because I think more are branching out. FIDM has a huge variety of ethnicities, we are definitely one big melting pot of a campus.

Tuition & Financial Aid at Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising - Los Angeles: Although FIDM is very expensive, it is definitely worth it for the education I am receiving. I could never have learned any of this on my own and am so glad to be attending. I am on financial aid and the people who work in the office are always helpful with any questions I have. Each end of a quarter, you have to make sure you are clear financially before registering for the next quarter. The office is always helpful with telling me what I need to complete to continue registering. The process was very easy for me to receive financial aid.

Academic Experience at Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising - Los Angeles: A lot of the teachers and professors at FIDM have worked in the fashion industry or have connections which is extremely helpful when graduating and looking for a job. For curriculum, we have general studies classes including survey of western art one and two, the creative process, and color and design theory. These classes help get the basics under everyones belt while also teaching you. All other classes are specially designed for your major and are tailored to help you succeed after the program. The great thing is that I don't only have design classes in jewelry design, there are also business classes as well. It is very well-rounded curriculum. Registering for classes is all done online and based on how many credits you currently have, and if you attend a certain amount of meetings for one of the clubs on campus you can qualify for pre-registration.

Academic Experience at Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising - Los Angeles: The jewelry design program at FIDM has an upper hand over the other majors on campus because we have our very own lab and studio that is off campus. It includes twelve work benches, four cabinets filled with tools and wire, four polishing machines for finished metalwork, a torch station and much more. This studio is even open to students on Saturday's so we can get our projects done and even get ahead. It is also a great opportunity to get more one on one help. Typically, Saturday labs are taught by the director of the jewelry program, John Ahr, so I even get to familiarize myself with the head of my major. The curriculum is always challenging us to just the right degree so we are able to have building blocks up to the last quarter of the program. The great thing about FIDM is their job placements. They are extremely helpful and place you with companies that suite you. We are mandated to have an internship in our second year which they also help place us with.

Campus Resources at Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising - Los Angeles: FIDM offers inclusion into multiple on campus clubs which offer activities, meetings and volunteer opportunities each week. We have the best library resources that include fashion forecasting and trends books that are extremely helpful for the design programs, endless amounts of cartier and vogue books and a lot of magazine subscriptions that are constantly updated.

Campus Resources at Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising - Los Angeles: There is no on campus life. You go to school, you sit in class, have lunch and go home. Everyone commutes to school and most people are always tired because they sit in so much traffic to even get into la. Parking ranges from $5-$30 depends on the day and the events are going on. The amount of work you get is the same amount of a full time job. The teachers really prepare you for what life is going to throw at you in the industry. If you are not sure this is what you want to do in life, don't go to this school.

Academic Experience at Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising - Los Angeles: You really get thrown into the career that you want. The networks and opportunities are there for you, it is up to you to take head. There are always internships and job opportunities that are happening through the school into the actual work business. All of my professors are current in their area of expertise, so networking continues inside the classroom. For example, my major is visual communications and I have had the opportunity to assist with set up production for the Oscars. Every homework project that is assigned is to help build a portfolio, which our career center helps organize to make a successful and impressive resume.

Academic Experience at Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising - Los Angeles: The academics offered at my school are average. It is not over the top with workload compared to my AP classes in high school. However, it is challenging in a creative way. You have to come up with something new, reinvent yourself, and try to successfully marry art and a message or theme.

Campus Resources at Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising - Los Angeles: The network at my school is extremely helpful in more way than just academics. We have a career center that help guide students into their career, they treat you more like a friend than a student. Our student center is very warming and welcoming and as well as our campus activities. Being that this is a design school, the aesthetics are pleasing and stylish.

Overall Experience at Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising - Los Angeles: The school itself is great, the classes are all informative and prepeare you to enter the industry. I just wish that there was more student parking and that we could opt to take classes out of the ones assigned to our major, take some extra ciriculars as it were.

Career Services at Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising - Los Angeles: There is not a traditional graduate program, however the school offers advanced study degrees that take the place of graduate studies, and these programs, I've heard, are phenomenal.
