Off-Campus Housing: It's nice to have your own place and there're lots of apartment complexes to choose from. Some are a bit far from campus and others are more expensive. A few include amenities and furniture so they're convenient.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: I have not received much information about financial aid.

3 College Freshman

Athletics: Varsity sports are only attending for tailgaiting purposes, but intramurals are very popular around campus.

3 College Freshman

Health & Safety: Personal safety is not jeopardized at all in my opinion.

4 College Freshman

Majors: I love my major, it's great for me and the school does everything they can to make sure that I am prepared for each upcoming semester.

4 College Freshman

Majors: It was very easy and straight-forward when I decided to change my major. The school helped immensely with my final decision.

Party Scene: Nightlife is great, if you aren't 21, I wouldn't recommend going to the square but there is always an apartment/greek party for all of the underagers.

4 College Freshman

Transportation: buses run very often, although they are sometimes inconsistent, you are always able to look up the next available bus on the Texas State Tram app.

4 College Student

Campus Housing: i really like my dorm, but some need updating.

3 College Student

Greek Life: there i s a lot of greek life. Doesn't ruin anything if you're not in it.

3 College Student

Off-Campus Dining: a few good places, with some chains.

3 College Student

Weather: Texas weather, can be really random, but mostly good.

4 College Student

Transportation: a lot of bus's that run often.

4 College Student

Majors: worked at a great company, well paying, hours 9-5.

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: As school spirit, as a whole we don't have very much. Football games are attended because of tailgating. But everyone leaves by halftime. Our teams are good, we just need more student involvement.

Campus Housing: I lived in Blanco Hall and I loved it. It was spacious and I had my own bathroom. The housing department was good about choosing my first choice for housing preferences and gave me the option to pick my roommate. If I had the choice I'd be living on campus every year!

Party Scene: San marcos is the city that comes to life at night.

4 College Sophomore

Greek Life: Greek life is huge at Texas State. Its almost like if you aren't Greek you area no one. They can sometimes" run" campus in the sense that everyone knows about them and they have a big take on the social part of campus.

Administration: The school is pretty strict on some policies that make the campus safer. Parking is awful which does affect academics when students need to go on campus when the busses are hard to catch. Absolutely no tobacco on campus (RULE HARSHLY ENFORCED)! Many dorms are only accessible to residents at certain times; otherwise, a resident must let the visitor in the building.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: Many off-campus housing choices are available to students, though the school does not work with them that I know of. There is almost always availability. Cost is cheaper than dorms and also many other school's off-campus housing. Parking is AWFUL! Safety is good, there are almost always security on property! Landlords are awful, they take advantage of the fact that we are students that are living on our own for the first time.

Greek Life: Greek life can be big or small compared to who you talk to. Most people either hate or love Greek life. I am in a sorority so I am not sure how "big" it is to those not in a sorority/fraternity. Many "non-Greeks" hate "Greeks", and I know, unfortunately, know some Greek students that feel they are superior to those not in the Greek community. Most Greeks have chapter houses that are well-kept and appropriate for their chapters.

Local Area: There is always something to do here. If not in San Marcos, then Austin is only half an hour away. Many students go to Austin on the weekends to enjoy the activities there.

4 College Junior

Diversity: The students on campus are so diverse, you are very likely to share common ground with many other students. Though many people are accepting of this diversity, some are not.

5 College Junior

Academics: My major is the best (for me, at least)! I feel like the program prepares you for many future opportunities! The workload and curriculum are not nearly as much/hard as other majors. The facilities are great and many job opportunities will arise from being a Communication Studies major!

4 College Junior

Technology: DON'T BUY A PERSONAL PRINTER! The amount of free printing a student is given is more than enough to last through a college career! There are computer labs in many buildings, though the ones in the library are more commonly used. The network reliability/speed is okay. A pain to access the internet though, especially on the visitor option. If you are working on something important, DO NOT USE THE VISITOR ACCESS! You don't really need a personal computer here as long as you set aside time to use the ones on campus.

Texas State is such a friendly, open, accepting university. It's not a super huge college, so the people aren't stuck-up or cocky like you might find at bigger universities. It's very relaxed on campus, and there's a very chill atmosphere surrounding the city of San Marcos, as well. You can feel at home at Texas State, and you'll be surprised to find how easy it is to make friends.

Texas State is superb in making sure its students are offered the opportunities they need to gain skills that will make them the most competitive in their field. Being a smaller university makes it even easier for academic advisers and professors to take the extra time to talk to students one-on-one about their future career paths. The professors and advisers are always eager to help.
