Off-Campus Housing: The apartment complexes play "hard ball" whenever they can, high sub-lease fees, and cancellation fees. A friend who joined the military is STILL fighting with her complex to end her lease so she can go to Basic.

Academics: Awesome professors, and awesome campus!

Greek Life: some greeks live in the houses but some don't. greeks are in a lot of organizations on campus and some people say that greeks run the school. if you're not in a greek life though it's still possible to have a really similar college experience. non-greeks sometimes really don't like greeks and sometimes they don't care.

Party Scene: there's always something going on. a party or going to the square or 6th street.

Parking: Parking SUCKS. If you don't have a permit don't leave your car in any parking lot on campus for more than five minutes because you will get a ticket immediately.

2 College Freshman

Health & Safety: I've never used the health center, but this year crime has increased a lot in the area. I can't even walk around campus late at night without feeling uneasy.

3 College Freshman

Overall Experience: It just wasn't my type of school personally. If you want to have a lot of school pride though this is the place to be.

Texas State is such a friendly, open, accepting university. It's not a super huge college, so the people aren't stuck-up or cocky like you might find at bigger universities. It's very relaxed on campus, and there's a very chill atmosphere surrounding the city of San Marcos, as well. You can feel at home at Texas State, and you'll be surprised to find how easy it is to make friends.

Texas State is superb in making sure its students are offered the opportunities they need to gain skills that will make them the most competitive in their field. Being a smaller university makes it even easier for academic advisers and professors to take the extra time to talk to students one-on-one about their future career paths. The professors and advisers are always eager to help.
