Athletics: It's okay. All sports activities I've been to are enjoyable.

Local Area: I live the nature in the area. But there is also great places to shop. It is both a serene yet busy town.

Health & Safety: Health and safety are both really well up to par on and near campus. The city is overall nice and peaceful. Aside from occasional college students.

4 College Freshman

Academics: I have learned and acquired so much this past semester and I can't wait to absorb more.

Scholarships: I haven't allied for any financial aid. But I have for scholarships and it was a good process.

3 College Freshman

Administration: Cheating and plagiarism is not allowed at my university. Drinking is also not allowed in the dorms, however RA's don't really care.

2 College Freshman

Health & Safety: You hardly see campus police and there have been reports of sexual assault and threats on campus. I do feel safe when walking in a group, but at night I will never walk alone. One good thing about Texas State are the Bobcat Bobbies and you can call them at nigh to take you to your destination if you ever feel unsafe walking alone.

Off-Campus Housing: Living off campus costs more, however there are less things you have to worry about than if you were living off campus.

5 College Freshman

Local Area: San Marcos is between Austin and San Antonio, two popular cities that have many things to do. San Marcos is also knows for their outlets, which attracts a lot of tourists. The city of San Marcos loves Texas State University and provides us with volunteering opportunities.

4 College Freshman

Majors: The business school is amazing! They help me out so much.

Campus Housing: Honestly, I love Tower. It's a learning community, rennovated, perfect location, and a diverse group of people. San Marcos is an ideal hall but it's super expensive and soooo far away from main campus. I hate walking over there. Same with Falls and Sayers, those are the newest dorms and they are VERY nice. But so far away from the rest of campus.

Campus Food: Harris is the best out of the buffets. The Den has genuine fast food compared to Jones, although Jones is being renovated until 2016 :( Chick Fil A taste nothing like real Chick Fil A. The sandwiches are disgraceful! Not to mention they NEVER have ice, or anything other than water because no one ever refills it. Kind of the same with the sauces. I always struggle getting my CFA because you have to carry your entire meal individually until you get in line. CFA is just a hassle to deal with at the school.

Administration: Attendance depends on professors. I don't even have a car at the school but I know for a fact that the cops ticket any and everything. Parking is just a hassle to deal with. Alcohol and drug use in the dorms is enforced by RA's and RD's. They can be lenient or strict depending on who it is.

5 College Freshman

Party Scene: I love partying here. Everyone is so friendly and just wants to have a good time. Apartment parties are the best. I haven't gone to a frat party because I don't desire to... But the apartments almost always get shut down at 1:30 or 2. They rarely last. There's definitely a diverse scene at each party I go to, most of the time I'm the only one dancing but things can get crazy. Just be sure to go with a group of friends just to be safe! These parties are legit!

Health & Safety: We've had a few crimes on campus... I had a terrorist threat in my dorm hall, and the apartments that a prectically on campus down the street from my dorm had a group of scary men terrorizing people. Thats not all that's happened but I will admit I don't like walking by myself at night. That's why I like the bobcat bobbies, they'll take you where you need to go if you feel unsafe. However, those privileges have been abused by those who are simy too lazy to walk. But after the terrorist threat, my dorm building has a cop that does rounds in it every night. Makes me feel much safer. Not to mention the cops are literally always on campus, driving around and whatnot. Not too bad.

Athletics: The football games are extremely fun to go to. Most people love the idea of tailgating and don't even go to the game.. But regardless we have so much school spirit. Basketball receives a lot of attention as well, I personally haven't gone to one yet but from what I hear they're pretty fun.

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: The square is a great place for a variety of food. Gil's is a great burger place. Not to mention there's good froyo shops and homemade Icecream for those with a sweet tooth like me!

3 College Sophomore

Athletics: The school has a lot of Bobcat Pride when it comes to showing appreciation for involvement in any school activity, not only sports. The rec center is fantastic with great facilities and a variety of offerings for group classes.

Off-Campus Dining: A lot of fast food chains. Some cute local spots on the square and a few good Chinese take out places. Not a good location if you have diet restrictions such as gluten-free or if you're a vegan.

Greek Life: I'm personally not friends with anyone in Greek life.

Party Scene: Do not go to fraternity parties. Full of guys that just want to forget about how unhappy they are. There's always some apartment party happening at Copper Beach that you can crash.

4 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: The student body extremely large; hence very diverse so you're highly likely to find people that support you and have similar interests.

4 College Sophomore

Administration: When it comes to cheating and the honor code, getting caught results in very strict consequences in which you can get expelled. Dorms are very stern about alcohol use in dorms and drug use on campus, but unless you're a complete idiot it's fairly easy to hide some habits. Most professors leave it up to the students to show up to class, but it really depends on who you're teacher is and if they count attendance as part of the final grade.

4 College Sophomore

Local Area: The natural landscape of San Marcos with the river and many places to hike and camp is absolutely great when it comes to de-stressing after a long day in classes. The location of San Marcos can't be beat when it comes to being in driving distance of things to do in the big city of Austin. Great scenario for people who enjoy visiting the city but don't want to deal with the bullshit of living in it.

3 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: Never walk around campus alone at night. Assaults and robberies happen every now and then and you don't want to be that one person caught in the wrong place.

Texas State is such a friendly, open, accepting university. It's not a super huge college, so the people aren't stuck-up or cocky like you might find at bigger universities. It's very relaxed on campus, and there's a very chill atmosphere surrounding the city of San Marcos, as well. You can feel at home at Texas State, and you'll be surprised to find how easy it is to make friends.

Texas State is superb in making sure its students are offered the opportunities they need to gain skills that will make them the most competitive in their field. Being a smaller university makes it even easier for academic advisers and professors to take the extra time to talk to students one-on-one about their future career paths. The professors and advisers are always eager to help.
