3 College Freshman

Greek Life: I am just starting in the community here, not very aware of what Greeks do really, and still dont understand the purpose of a Greek or Sorority.

Athletics: I am not big on sports, but we do have some good teams in the campus.

Overall Experience: I have only been here for a semester, but so far things are looking well.

Health & Safety: Recently there has been a lot of crime on and near campus. We were notified with the events and it seems that UPD has been taking steps to prevent incidents. As far as personal safety it just depends on where you are at what time of day. I feel pretty safe for the most part. I never felt as if I had to worry about crime until some recent frequent incidents. Other than that I think campus is pretty safe.

Overall Experience: My experience so far with my courses and professors has been pretty great! I have honestly loved the personalities of the professors that I have had and always felt like they wanted me to succeed in their class. My courses taught me a lot and were challenging for the most part. This university offers a ton of courses for anything you could possibly want to learn about. I had a mixture of small and large classes and never had an issue of focusing in either.

Overall Experience: The value of a degree from this school really depends on the degree itself and the career the student is looking to have. I've heard many stories from older friends about getting internships and jobs straight after graduation. I have visited the career center and they are very helpful!

Campus Housing: My dorm specifically is probably one of the best on campus. I absolutely love it! My RA's are super sweet as well as the RA's who work the front desk. There's always people downstairs playing pool and hanging out and I think it's a really run and social environment.

Greek Life: I've heard good and bad things about our Greek life. I've heard a couple horror stories about specific fraternities. Most Greeks are respected for the most part depending on the specific sorority or fraternity. There's a really pretty street where all the sorority houses are located near campus.

Athletics: Typically a big part of college is football. At my university football isn't as huge of a deal as most other schools. Students attend games but our attendance for sure could be increased. Our team doesn't win a whole lot but students and faculty still support them a lot. From what I've seen, school spirit differs. I've met some pretty peppy people when it comes to the fight song, while some don't even know the words.

Overall Experience: The professors that I have had so far in my college career have been incredible! I can really tell they love what they do and the subjects they teach. The town is absolutely gorgeous and has a really fun environment. My school is unique because it has a river that runs through campus which provides a nice relaxing get away when you're not studying or in class. If I could go back and time and do this all over again I would choose this school again and again and probably sooner than I did because I love it so much!!

Overall Experience: I am a college freshman. So far I have had a pretty good experience with my school, there are many resources on campus that I take full advantage of and everyone like professors and advisors are extremely helpful.

Athletics: I have heard many great things about our campus athletics but unfortunately I have not been able to attend any of them due to working full time after going to school full time.

Health & Safety: I love how serious our campus takes things such as campus crime and our personal safety. There were many times last semester that as soon as something would happen they would send us texts and emails informing us on what happened and ensuring that we would be safe. I really appreciated that.

Overall Experience: It's a pretty campus and I have had mostly great experiences with all of my professors. I just wish they would be more helpful in helping students that need help with grants and stuff. I have lost 15 lbs in stressing over my tuition since I have transferred to this school to finish my college and I have been to many offices and no one is ever willing to help or give good advice which is sad to me.

Overall Experience: Being a student at Texas State I have noticed that in this part they lack compared to what I have seen from other schools. I think they care as much other than just receiving our tuition money.

Greek Life: I am not sure I have never been apart of it.

Diversity: I came from a town That was 99% white. It is such a breath of fresh air here and I absolutely love the diversity here. I've learned so much from people that I never would have if I went somewhere like A&M. The people are extremely friendly and welcoming. I really wish everyone could get to experience what we have here.

Drug Safety: It's college. I came here never doing drugs or alcohol and made it until 21 without drinking (still no drugs). It is honestly what you make of it. I made great friends and know plenty of people who can have fun without alcohol or drugs. If you choose not to do that, then don't. Find people who are like minded. People here know how to have a good time, and may always be known as a party school but I honestly believe we are no different than any other college in America.

Overall Experience: Once you get out of basic classes your class size should go down tremendously (at least education classes). I haven't had more than 20 people in a class in years. I also haven't encountered a single bad professor my entire time here. They honestly care so much about your success and genuinely love their job. I don't know who is in charge of hiring professors but they freaking rock. I'm sure that some professors aren't so great, but thats why you research before signing up for classes. Even if they aren't that great, I promise they will still care about you doing well in their class and getting the education you need.

Overall Experience: I know that Texas State education program is highly regarded, which is one of the reasons I chose to come here. I haven't quite applied for teaching jobs but I'm sure I won't have much of an issue because of the education I've recieved. Principals know they can trust to hire Texas State grads.

Through my time here I have had 3 internships built into my degree plan as well as plenty of oppurtunities to be a mentor and get involved in things relating to my degree. From one of my internships, I was actually hired to work part time by the owner. My professors made sure they took their time to choose really great places to intern for us. I'm so thankful for that because now I get to work at a place I absolutely love.

Campus Housing: I don't know about anyone else but I had a great experience in the dorm. I was in a learning community in tower and am still friends with everyone from freshman year. I still have classes with a lot of them and it's really helped ease any first day jitters knowing I'm always going to know someone in a class because of my learning community. I don't think I would choose to live in a dorm all four years, but I think everyone needs to have their first year dorm experience. You meet so many people and really get to know yourself.

Greek Life: I was in a national service sorority. Now exactly Panhellenic but I had a great time and it was exactly what I was looking for. There are plenty of ways to make friends and it isn't only through joining Greek life. I never felt like anyone looked down on me and I never looked down on other organizations. I think if you join something it needs to be something you enjoy. Greek or not. if it's an organization that welcomes you with open arms and makes you feel at home, then you will really enjoy your time in college.

Overall Experience: By far the greatest decision of my life thus far. I've met the greatest and most diverse people. I absolutely love Texas State and all it has to offer. San Marcos is the most amazing town in the world. Such a small town feel but still so much to do. I honestly couldn't see myself going anywhere else. With graduation coming around the corner I realize I'm not so sure I am ready to leave yet. This is the best school in Texas hands down. Even if it never gets the credit it deserves.

Health & Safety: I work as a bobcat Bobbie on campus which are student workers hired by UPD to provide escort for students and staff at night whondo not feel safe walking alone. I've been working there for almost 3 years and have never encountered any problems. There are also email alerts the school sends out if anything on or around campus happens that require police. There are also emergency boxs located throughout campus that students can reach and call UPD.

4 College Junior

Overall Experience: Most of my professors are friendly and helpful. Not that I'm in my major classes the class size is usually around 30. There are a lot of different classes to choose from and most only offer in class but there are some who offer online.

Texas State is such a friendly, open, accepting university. It's not a super huge college, so the people aren't stuck-up or cocky like you might find at bigger universities. It's very relaxed on campus, and there's a very chill atmosphere surrounding the city of San Marcos, as well. You can feel at home at Texas State, and you'll be surprised to find how easy it is to make friends.

Texas State is superb in making sure its students are offered the opportunities they need to gain skills that will make them the most competitive in their field. Being a smaller university makes it even easier for academic advisers and professors to take the extra time to talk to students one-on-one about their future career paths. The professors and advisers are always eager to help.
