Majors: The process of getting into Biology is not hard at all. There is not any types of special requirements in comparison to other public universities.

5 College Sophomore

Guys & Girls: Everybody for the most part is very down to earth and easy to talk to. Upperclassmen are happy to help incoming freshmen find their way around without bullying or making them feel stupid.

Greek Life: Alot of the fraternities are only good for throwing parties. There are some good ones that involve certain majors or high gpa's but I don't believe those are "greek life".

4 College Sophomore

Local Area: Plenty of attractions in san marcos, outlet mall, campus rec, independent rec centers, plenty to eat, plus its only 20 minutes from austin and 40 from san antonio!

3 College Senior

Administration: They are pretty strict on attendance specifically in your upper level classes but i believe that is to be expected at any college.

3 College Senior

Weather: It is humid and hot but during fall it is pretty nice cool weather.

College Senior

Greek Life: I'm not involved with Greek Life at Texas State University.

Technology: There are a large quantity of computers but the printers are broken majority of the time.

Athletics: Varsity sports here at Texas State are great. The student section has so many chants and team spirit which makes it so much fun. Our football stadium was recently remodeled and it is now huge and can hold so many more fans.

4 College Senior

Local Area: San Marcos is great for a student looking to unwind on the weekends down at the square where there are several bars to choose from. Other activities that are fun are going to outlet mall for some shopping or floating the river during the spring and summer.

Transportation: The school bus system is pretty efficient by covering most of the city at a reasonable time. When it comes to late at night though they slow service significantly. Other than the schools transportation there is a lack in public service transportation.

Diversity: There is a large diversity here and Texas State University there is a part of the college that is specifically for international students. I have only heard of one racist remark from a white person about blacks but this school accepts different backgrounds and ethnicities.

Weather: During the Summer months it is hot, this fall it has not really begun to get cold yet, it gets cold in the mornings and then back in the 80s in the afternoon.

4 College Junior

Athletics: I love the University Gym, it is so convenient and close to campus. Also the athletic events are pretty well organized.

Scholarships: kind of annoying with having to make sure they received what they needed.

Campus Housing: A lot of the dorms are outdtated and not kept well. Many of them have been shut down, because their useful life has ran out.

Academics: I believe acadmenics is extremely easy at Texas State University; perhaps too easy. To Texas State Students, we have a lot of school work; however, compared to other schools in Texas, our work load and class curriculums do not provide a rich education that allows students to be successful in their majored subjects. I know that there are students who say they had a bad GPA, but transfer to Texas State and are able to boost it back up real quick, because our school is so easy. A lot of teachers give out extra credit, or slack back in assignments, just so students can receive a grade. Students basically don't learn, we are only concerned about receiving grades. Grades don't make people competent in their profession, an education does.

Academics: I will not reveal my major for identification reasons, but my major has a great school. We have great programs and do a lot for our community. My major's school is even ranked top 10 in the nation for it's hospitality and help towards getting veterans a degree.

Greek Life: I am not greek, but I have a lot of greek friends and greek life seems decent. I know that in recent years a few organizaitons have been busted by the police with their members facing criminal punishment for indecent behavior and hazing. If it wasn't for that, I would give greek life an A. There are many greeks on campus and all my friends love and enjoy their brothers and sisters.

Campus Food: The dining halls are good. But you get tired of eating the same thing over and over again. Sure I can eat off campus, but I am paying a lot for my meal plan so intend to use. I think there should be more options for meal trades so we are not stuck eating the same foor repeatedly. It cost a lot so I should have a lot of variety.

Campus Housing: I like my dorm room in Sterry Hall, it is very nice. I have even seen my friends dorm rooms in Smith and College in and they are nice as well. Sterry is a pretty good distance from the Quad which is the middle of campus so getting to classes in the morning is easy. It is nice dorm, and the RA's are very nice and helpful.

Off-Campus Dining: The food off-campus is AMAZING. The Square is usually where everyone goes to hang out and it generally has all of the best food!!!

Greek Life: Greek life is huge on campus but it is not a big deal whether you're part of it or not. Not all of the sororities and fraternities are about partying either. For instance, I'm in a co-ed national service fraternity and we pretty much volunteer on campus and within the community. It was a great way to make friends and you easily feel like you belong.
Greek students are always viewed as the stereotype but that's no different from any other clique; everyone is always viewed as the stereotype no matter what.
There are Greek fraternity houses but they are small and not many people actually live in them.

Drug Safety: The drug scene at Texas State isn't huge, it all depends on who you're friends with and what you like to do. Mainly, everything is a personal preference and no one is ever peer pressured into anything. Contrary to popular belief, Texas State is not a party school; everyone that I'm friends with justifies that they don't want to waste their thousands of dollars partying instead of getting an education.

5 College Sophomore

Transportation: The buses that run from campus are always on time and in abundance.

Texas State is such a friendly, open, accepting university. It's not a super huge college, so the people aren't stuck-up or cocky like you might find at bigger universities. It's very relaxed on campus, and there's a very chill atmosphere surrounding the city of San Marcos, as well. You can feel at home at Texas State, and you'll be surprised to find how easy it is to make friends.

Texas State is superb in making sure its students are offered the opportunities they need to gain skills that will make them the most competitive in their field. Being a smaller university makes it even easier for academic advisers and professors to take the extra time to talk to students one-on-one about their future career paths. The professors and advisers are always eager to help.
