Athletics: I don't pay too much attention to sports

Off-Campus Housing: Parking sucks where ever you live. It would be nice if there were more actual houses to rent, but the fact that there are a lot of family and people who do not attend college living here makes it hard to find a landlord who will rent to college students.

Weather: It rains one day, bright and sunny the next. Texas weather is crazy in general

Campus Quality: The river is awesome. We have an awesome rec. huge library perfect for studying

Campus Quality: It's a college town yet very close to big cities. Also, the river is a great amenity.

4 College Sophomore

Diversity: Most people are very accepting of others

Transportation: We just got zip cars this year. The shuttles have been getting better. I know we are short staffed on drivers and construction has been an issue.

4 College Sophomore

Technology: A lot of labs are full and you have to wait for a computer to open up. They just recently created a printing quota of 2500 pages.

5 College Senior

Party Scene: It's the thing we do the best. Bars are completely full Thursday-Saturday.

Athletics: We're getting better, but there is still a long way to go. The athletic department needs to step up their game and get more students out to the football games. There IS school spirit in the sense that everything is maroon and gold, but it's not necessarily due to anything other than that's where all of your money is going. There also needs to be another rec center, that place is too small for 25k+ students.

Weather: I wish one of the options for the Rating would be 'It's Texas'.

Guys & Girls: Everyone knows about Texas State girls. The general fashion of the majority of coeds seems to be cookie-cutter, though.

Administration: Tobacco free university, so if you need a smoke just walk 100 yards and you'll be fine. I gained a lot of respect for Texas State cops because they told the tv show "Campus PD" to take a hike when approached with a potential TV contract, but San Marcos PD okayed the ride alongs. I've personally only had one negative experience with a Texas State officer, but I've heard some really bad things.

Can't speak for the academic aspect, but I've never really heard anyone talk about it so i'm assuming it's average.

Greek Life: Speaking as a non-Greek student, I view them as annoying. This is for the same reasons they would probably say I am annoying, though (social stigma). So my argument is flawed and silly to begin with. At any rate, Greek life here is very cliquish and they usually keep to themselves, and even mostly in their respective chapter. The upperclassmen Greek students are a lot more down to earth, and drop the whole 'Animal House' mentality for the most part. I live next to about three frat houses and only one of them has really ever given me any grief. The closest one even has me over occasionally and I walk with them to the square. Really nice guys.

I haven't noticed Greek life affecting social atmosphere ON campus whatsoever.

Off-Campus Dining: It's no West Campus at UT dining options, but for the size of the town you can't beat it. You could eat after midnight every day of the week and still have a good number of dishes or spots you didn't even know existed. It's not the most diverse cuisine in the world but it's great, cheap, and very close to campus.

Tap Room is the best example of this.

Campus Quality: I say it's great because I transferred into Texas State from from another large university south of San Marcos. At that particular university, there was absolutely no student life or social scene. Everything around that campus was closed by midnight, even though it's in a major Texas city. San Marcos and Texas State are the complete opposite. All ages music venues, hookah lounges, and a host of different local restaurants that are within walking distance from campus, as well as being open past midnight, make Texas State extremely attractive to potential freshmen or transfer students.

I am not too knowledgeable in academic programs. Apologies.

Health & Safety: Up until this semester (Fall 2013) I never heard about any serious crime in or around campus. Last semester I would have answered this as 'It's great' but some of the stuff happening close to campus is worrisome. University PD are stepping up off campus patrol because of this, though.

Off-Campus Housing: It takes me ten minutes to walk to class, I live alone, and my rent is under $600. Can be a bit cutthroat at times though.

4 College Senior

Local Area: It's great when you take into account there is a host of bars and music venues not even a mile off campus. People who say that the atmosphere is bad truly haven't experienced all that you can in San Marcos.

Technology: There are many computer labs across campus with wireless network everywhere.

Majors: I was only interested in one major and it was easy to understand the process.

Majors: Love most of my professors however some just give busy work.

Campus Food: I never really eat on campus to know the eating situation.

Parking: There is no parking that is fairly close to camups and if it is the cost it outragdous!

Local Area: The atmosphere is okay, but there aren't many things to do there other than take a trip to the river, but you can only really do that when it is swimming time. Other than that, the recreation center is great if you want to stay fit and there are many organizations to join campus but not many attractions near Texas State.

Texas State is such a friendly, open, accepting university. It's not a super huge college, so the people aren't stuck-up or cocky like you might find at bigger universities. It's very relaxed on campus, and there's a very chill atmosphere surrounding the city of San Marcos, as well. You can feel at home at Texas State, and you'll be surprised to find how easy it is to make friends.

Texas State is superb in making sure its students are offered the opportunities they need to gain skills that will make them the most competitive in their field. Being a smaller university makes it even easier for academic advisers and professors to take the extra time to talk to students one-on-one about their future career paths. The professors and advisers are always eager to help.
