Weather: Either cold or muggy, there is no in between. Also if it's spring, expect at least once a week for it to be a typhoon outside.

Administration: School can be very strict with visitations and the like. Attendance is a class to class basis. The local police are going after underage drinking HARD this semester.

Campus Quality: It's very high school feeling; people aren't really willing to meet new people and tend to stick to their cliques. The academic programs are actually ok; there are a few classes that are either just very outdated or taught poorly but overall I enjoy my program. However, we're working on programs that no one in the work place really uses. Don't be fooled; if you're an MSP major, no one really uses Final Cut. Most major companies use Avid.

Local Area: Philadelphia isn't as bad as people make it out to be, but if you're on a budget or under 21, good luck trying to find something exciting to do. Some of the best areas of the city are Chinatown, Old City, and if you're into bars Fishtown.

Overall Experience: I really want to like Temple. I don't hate it, I don't hate the friends I've made, and I don't hate my program. But Temple administration has screwed me over multiple times, from financial aid to messing up my course schedule. Beyond that, it still feels a lot like high school. If that's something you like, that's fine. I just don't think Temple is for me.

Campus Housing: Living on campus isn't great. The dorms are old and not very well maintained, and there isn't much of a sense of community. Off campus housing isn't much better either; usually a very dingy place with sky high prices.

Off-Campus Dining: In the immediate area around Temple there's a few cheap pizza places and Chinese takeout; the food trucks on campus are awesome but they close shop early. If you want something around campus late at night, you're out of luck. The city itself of course has a variety of options though.

Greek Life: No one really cares for greek life on campus; that's not to say most people hate greeks; we just don't care beyond the parties they throw, and those are usually pretty crappy.

Campus Quality: Our library is quite nice though I feel like it's very small for a college library. Most of the students are commuters so there isn't much of going on in the way of student life

Party Scene: Transportation is no issue. The campus is blocks away from quality restaurants.

Majors: The University is very useful in linking students to jobs. Interested potential employees can attach their resumes and send it via email.

Off-Campus Housing: Off campus housing provides a very different experience from campus housing. For those interested in off campus housing, I advise you to be cautious because you may be far removed from the safety of the campus.

Administration: Temple University's attendance policy is very strict. The only thing more stringent is the academia policies.

Campus Quality: Student or should I say student night life is incredible. The school is minutes away from downtown Philadelphia. As the city comes alive, so do the students.

Health & Safety: The Temple police are always on the lookout for students. They often patrol the campus on bikes and are quick to respond to any emergency.

Academics: As a pre pharmacy major, I am faced with an aggressive curriculum. In spite of this difficulty, I have very excellent teachers and a flexible course prerequisite.

Academics: TempleĀ“s demanding classes are remedied by vast amounts of resources at the students disposal and many seats in the library to provide comfort while studying. Ps: The library fills up quickly so try to get there early.

Parking: Parking policies are very laxed. Parking is always available in the University lots. But if cost an issue you can park around the campus.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Overall, Temple has its ups and downs, but students seem to love it all the same. On the downside, there can be some head-butts with tyrannical teachers, unfriendly cafeteria workers, and the always-frustrating financial aid office. Housing can cause an enormous hassle, and those commuting have to battle with parking or public transportation. Some people don’t feel as though they are prepared for the real world once they leave campus, but others say it’s been an incredible learning experience. Those students that love their experience at Temple all have their own reasons. Some love the atmosphere and found it to be a lot of fun. Others found it to be a great place to grow up and discover themselves. Lots of students take away more from living in a big city than they do from the University. But one thing it seems most students agree on is that the people at Temple University are what really make it a worthwhile experience.

In general, students coming to Temple have big expectations, from both the school and the city. Those that graduate either feel that Temple met their expectations, or if it didn’t, then it was their own fault for not pursuing more opportunities while they were there. Most students feel that Temple provides them with the opportunities that make their college experiences excellent—as long as they are willing to make use of them.
