4 College Junior

Academics: Academics will vary with every professor, though I am pleased with what I have been exposed to during my three years here.

4 College Junior

Greek Life: I just recently joined Greek life in my third year at my school. I never felt dismissed by Greeks before joining but I did see them as somewhat cliquey. After joining, I do not feel any different than I did when I was a Geed. There is fraternity housing available but city rules restrict sorority housing.

Off-Campus Dining: There are many small local convenience stores throughout the off-campus neighborhoods. They vary in quality so you just have to find your favorite, and all are extremely cheap.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: There are a lot of off-campus housing opportunities at my school. Most are reasonably priced. The biggest con is not always feeling safe.

5 College Junior

Local Area: My school is located in a major city, so there is always something to do. If I ever need a break from schoolwork I am just a short subway ride away from Center City, so it is very easily accessible.

3 College Junior

Majors: I have never had an internship. I would like to have one before graduation but I am not sure how to go about finding one. I feel it will provide me with a valuable learning experience.

4 College Junior

Administration: My school is not located in a very safe area, so campus officials have created strict rules regarding dorm access, which made me feel safe.

3 College Junior

Scholarships: Be sure to get necessary paperwork and information filled out in a timely manner to ensure the best funding for you.

3 College Sophomore

Party Scene: I really don't know how the parties are because I have never gone to one.

4 College Freshman

Greek Life: They are treated as non Greeks.

5 College Senior

Majors: Neuroscience professors are great with conveying the lessons clearly and effectively.

Campus Food: The food is expensive. I don't have a meal plan.

3 College Senior

Administration: I feel safe around campus.

3 College Senior

Greek Life: Applying for a greek community is greatly advertised around school.

4 College Senior

Overall Experience: It was not a difficult process.

3 College Senior

Scholarships: The financial aid wasn't enough, I have to continue seeking outside/private loans.

College Senior

Campus Housing: I do not live on campus. I have only seen my friends' rooms.

3 College Junior

Local Area: Temple University is located right in the middle of the city, so it's usually always busy and something to do. Whether it be grabbing a bite to eat or finding a relaxing area to do work. It has a good social atmosphere as well, which is good for others to socialize with each other.

3 College Junior

Health & Safety: I feel safe on campus because of the amount of security guards on campus. They are usually easily spotted with their bright yellow coats. Students feel welcomed to ask them for help if needed, which is always a plus because they are approachable and there to help.

3 College Junior

Scholarships: I got a very limited amount of outside scholarships by applying to a ton. Temple doesn't offer a wide range of financial aid from the university (as far as I am concerned).

Administration: I feel pretty safe on campus because there is usually a good amount of security guards on campus. Outside of campus and inside the buildings to check our identification cards.

4 College Junior

Majors: Temple University has a wide range of majors. From medicine to law to political science. In general education classes, there is always a wide mix of students. When we play ice breakers, it is nice to learn about the person and their major because it is usually something different than mine.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: Personally, I have never lived on campus. However, when I ask my friends about their experiences, they usually say it provides a good atmosphere and they enjoy living there.

3 College Junior

Athletics: I usually see tons of posters and banners regarding sports and upcoming sport activities. Sports are definitely an important aspect to Temple University because so many students are passionate about the sports that they participate in.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Overall, Temple has its ups and downs, but students seem to love it all the same. On the downside, there can be some head-butts with tyrannical teachers, unfriendly cafeteria workers, and the always-frustrating financial aid office. Housing can cause an enormous hassle, and those commuting have to battle with parking or public transportation. Some people don’t feel as though they are prepared for the real world once they leave campus, but others say it’s been an incredible learning experience. Those students that love their experience at Temple all have their own reasons. Some love the atmosphere and found it to be a lot of fun. Others found it to be a great place to grow up and discover themselves. Lots of students take away more from living in a big city than they do from the University. But one thing it seems most students agree on is that the people at Temple University are what really make it a worthwhile experience.

In general, students coming to Temple have big expectations, from both the school and the city. Those that graduate either feel that Temple met their expectations, or if it didn’t, then it was their own fault for not pursuing more opportunities while they were there. Most students feel that Temple provides them with the opportunities that make their college experiences excellent—as long as they are willing to make use of them.
