Health & Safety: I feel pretty safe when I'm on campus, but once you hit those outside boundaries you have to keep your eyes and ears open.

Health & Safety: We have a lot of security riding on bikes around campus, shuttles on and off campus, and a "walking buddy" system. Keep in mind, Temple University is still located in North Philadelphia which is relatively a "dangerous" area.

Campus Housing: I only lived in a dorm my freshman year. I chose Johnson/Hardwick and I really enjoyed my decision. I made lots of friends and easy access to the cafeteria downstairs (no need to walk outside).

Greek Life: I have many friends that are in Greek life, but it was not something I was interested in. The greek community at Temple University does a lot for the community and for the school.

Athletics: Temple University is a D1 school, so sports is a very important part of our school culture. Basketball and football are the two sports that receive the most school spirit! The games become a time for all of the students to get together, put all their differences aside and root for our amazing school.

Overall Experience: Temple University is a great school for high school students who want to immerse themselves into diverse group of individuals. Our school has hundreds of organizations and social/professional events that prepare us to be more open-minded, well-networked and well-knowledgeable about the world. I would choice Temple University again because I feel I have received the best education, preparation for the real-world and I built strong relationships that will last a lifetime.

Health & Safety: Campus is pretty safe, as long as you are cautious. If you wander off campus especially by yourself at night, you are clearly not going to be as safe. As long as you are not being stupid, you should be fine.

Campus Housing: Living on campus is fine, its getting on campus housing that is a hassle. It is first come first serve, so unless you are planning on living off campus, you have to book your dorm quickly.

Greek Life: Greek life is not vey big on campus. If you are a part of it, great. If not, whatever. You will not be shunned if you don't rush. You will not be the most popular kid on campus if you participate in greek life.

Overall Experience: Temple is a great school for what I want to do. I have many opportunities to get internships, whether in Philadelphia or in other large cities like Los Angeles or New York. Temple has career fairs and other opportunities to network and gain contacts in the industry so that we all have jobs lined up after we graduate.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Overall, Temple has its ups and downs, but students seem to love it all the same. On the downside, there can be some head-butts with tyrannical teachers, unfriendly cafeteria workers, and the always-frustrating financial aid office. Housing can cause an enormous hassle, and those commuting have to battle with parking or public transportation. Some people don’t feel as though they are prepared for the real world once they leave campus, but others say it’s been an incredible learning experience. Those students that love their experience at Temple all have their own reasons. Some love the atmosphere and found it to be a lot of fun. Others found it to be a great place to grow up and discover themselves. Lots of students take away more from living in a big city than they do from the University. But one thing it seems most students agree on is that the people at Temple University are what really make it a worthwhile experience.

In general, students coming to Temple have big expectations, from both the school and the city. Those that graduate either feel that Temple met their expectations, or if it didn’t, then it was their own fault for not pursuing more opportunities while they were there. Most students feel that Temple provides them with the opportunities that make their college experiences excellent—as long as they are willing to make use of them.
