5 College Sophomore

Local Area: there is always something going on on campus. the nightlife is better than excellent. campus is located 15 minutes from the center city where you can find a lot of good bars and clubs. there is a bar on campus as well with $1 beers. i highly recommend it.

Athletics: sport is a big part of the school, the fan support from not only students but families and locals is very high. i like mens basketball team, they play really good and i dont miss a game.

College Sophomore

Administration: im not sure i live off campus

Health & Safety: i live off campus but on a typical day you can see police on every corner of the street and if one needs an escort, all you need to do is make a phone call and the police will come to escort you home. there are security cameras all over the place and I feel completely safe on campus

Majors: I enjoy the programs offered at school. There are many internship opportunities for undergrad and grad students. I speak three different languages and I found 6 different internships that involve communication with immigrants that I am trying to apply for. school has a very diverse campus, libraries and technologies used during the classes are up to date. i took international politics last semester and i found out my professor has worked at Harvard, goes abroad annually and involved in foreign politics which gave us perfect understanding of foreign politics.

Off-Campus Dining: Since the school is located in the city, the availability of variety is vast.

Weather: Being an open campus with few hills and slopes, the weather has little affect on transportation or availability of resources.

4 College Freshman

Weather: I'm from Wisconsin so the lack of snow is a little depressing, but it's good for walking around campus

3 College Freshman

Party Scene: Lot's of house parties, I know people who party every weekend, and there are many different options. Not sure about bars/clubs since I'm still underage, but it's downtown Philly so I'm sure there are plenty of choices. As usual the public transportation is great so that will never be a problem

Drug Safety: I haven't heard of too many people dying of drug overdoses, but it's a pretty wild off campus life so I'm sure it happens

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: It's pretty expensive to live off campus, but it's worth it because the dorms are obscenely expensive. Even as a freshman I wish I had skipped the dorms and gone straight to an apartment

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: You have to take the subway to get anywhere good, but in center city there are thousands of great restaurants for all cost levels

3 College Freshman

Campus Quality: I'm pretty antisocial so I'm not sure, but others seem to like it

4 College Freshman

Campus Quality: Facilities are very good, high level of technology, three large workout facilities, and many high tech classrooms

4 College Freshman

Diversity: Extremely diverse campus, one of the most diverse schools in the country

3 College Freshman

Athletics: I don't really pay attention, but apparently our basketball program is big

2 College Freshman

Campus Food: I hate having a meal plan, no healthy options are available, it's expensive, and the service is poor. You are better off grocery shopping

Academics: The Fox School of Business is one of the most well endowed colleges on campus. The professors are incredibly dedicated, and there are innumerable resources for students in every business major. The Center for Student Professional Development is another great resource which helps students find internships and develop resumes, among other things. The workload is high, but I enjoy the challenge

Academics: As a member of two honors programs, one through the university and one through the Fox School of Business, I can say that I have been very well challenged, and I enjoy the challenges and opportunities the school has to offer

3 College Freshman

Guys & Girls: The guys are pretty nice in general, I have a long distance serious relationship with a guy at home though, so I don't really pay attention to the dating scene at all

3 College Freshman

Technology: The only complaint I have is with the slow wireless on campus

4 College Freshman

Transportation: The subway and trains will take you almost anywhere around the city, and they are very reliable and frequent. The only downside is that the school does not provide any sort of discount or free public transit deals like schools in other cities do

3 College Freshman

Local Area: The school itself is smack dab in the middle of the ghetto, there is nowhere to walk off campus unless it is to house parties. There are also very few parks near campus, not very pretty at all. I value scenery a lot and near the school there is little to no scenery. However, if you take the subway ten minutes into center city, there are a lot of nice restaurants, cafes, shopping, and other attractions that make up for the ugly area around campus

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Overall, Temple has its ups and downs, but students seem to love it all the same. On the downside, there can be some head-butts with tyrannical teachers, unfriendly cafeteria workers, and the always-frustrating financial aid office. Housing can cause an enormous hassle, and those commuting have to battle with parking or public transportation. Some people don’t feel as though they are prepared for the real world once they leave campus, but others say it’s been an incredible learning experience. Those students that love their experience at Temple all have their own reasons. Some love the atmosphere and found it to be a lot of fun. Others found it to be a great place to grow up and discover themselves. Lots of students take away more from living in a big city than they do from the University. But one thing it seems most students agree on is that the people at Temple University are what really make it a worthwhile experience.

In general, students coming to Temple have big expectations, from both the school and the city. Those that graduate either feel that Temple met their expectations, or if it didn’t, then it was their own fault for not pursuing more opportunities while they were there. Most students feel that Temple provides them with the opportunities that make their college experiences excellent—as long as they are willing to make use of them.
