Diversity: One of the most diverse schools, and open to all kinds of people. Incredibly accepting of all different races and sexuality.

Greek Life: Only the frats have houses which are very run down and abused, used for parties. Very expensive with limited opportunities. Most students choose not to partake in joining but many go to the parties.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Dining: Many Chinese and pizza places. There are chains close by, and the prices are average, but there is not many healthy options close to campus being in the city. Also, next to no sit down restaurants, most places are grab and go.

Scholarships: Students are not very aware of the financial processes, especially freshmen. Many people have had problems, but as college students money is always a huge problem.

Party Scene: Many people go crazy at the frat houses, underage drinking is pretty abundant depending on the student. However, since the parties are on campus it is safer for the students to get to their dorms safely.

4 College Freshman

Technology: The tech center is a great resource since it available at all hours, but during the day it becomes next to impossible to find a computer because of all the people that come in for classes and do not live on campus especially close to the end of the semester. The wifi needs to be continually connected in the dorm, but around campus it is available in most areas. Printers can often become crowded in the library, but at the tech center it is great for computer graphics with a wide range of printing options with the best software.

3 College Freshman

Academics: Depending on your major your workload can vary. Science students are swamped while many of the art students have a fair work load. The study abroad programs for science students are slim to none because of the required courses each semester are not offered, but there are programs for language and architecture students.

3 College Freshman

Administration: In the dorms, many people come back drunk/high and it is possible for substances to get into the buildings. The RAs will not get involved unless someone is throwing up, really disrupting other people, or they see someone blatantly using in front of them.

Majors: The application process is pretty standard, and is very obtainable to a variety of students. More of an emphasis on GPA/AP credits and course load. SAT is not that much of a determining factor.

4 College Freshman

Majors: Most of the professors are very accessible and approachable, and there are many other resources available to the science/math majors. Help is always available, but textbooks and other expenses are always a difficult and expensive subject.

4 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Age and quality of the buildings can vary, but the newer dorms are way more expensive than the older buildings. Campus housing is easier in many respects like the proximity to classes and to other people. Certain dorms are also more a party atmosphere and are close to the frat houses, so this could be positive or negative depending on the student.

3 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: Going too off campus in certain areas is risky and may not be the best choice, but the further off campus the cheaper the houses are. Most of the main developments suggested are fair.

3 College Freshman

Transportation: Within Philadelphia, so septa is the main source of transportation around the area. However the area is not the greatest so public transportation is affected by this as well as the high cost of septa tokens.

Diversity: The diversity at Temple University is amazing. They people I know are very accepting in religion, heritage, nationality, people with disabilities, and sexual orientation. Most of the people I know have friends who are gay and respect their sexual preferences. My school has some Homosexual and Transgender classes for students who are interested in these studies. The university also respects people with disabilities and have classes that permit people with special needs to enroll in a course. The people at Temple respect people of different ethnic backgrounds and respect international students. Temple is also diverse in religious backgrounds. They have clubs and activities for religious group to come together and socialize. In general, the students at Temple are friendly and are respectful towards each other.

Guys & Girls: The guys and girls at Temple University are great. Most of the guys I know are very friendly and attractive. They are also interested into sports and enjoy working out at the gym. The guys at Temple University like to party and have fun! Many guys are hardworking in school and some are not. The girls at Temple University are smart and hold great conversations. A decent amount of girls are hardworking and some do not really care for school that much. Most girls do yoga, aerobics and also work out in the gym. Most girls are also into partying and having fun. Overall, there is a great balance in guys and girls who enjoy academics, athletics, religion, and having fun. I would say that the guys and girls at my school are great because the social life is awesome and we have a balance of everything.

Scholarships: The financial aid process at Temple University is fair. The process is easy to understand and the financial aid office counselors are great in providing information and financial needs to students. Additionally, they provide good information about applying for aid, paying off loans, applying for scholarships, applying for grants, receiving reimbursements, and other financial inquiries.

Athletics: The athletics at Temple University is great. All temple students and Staff receive emails about Temple football, and basketball games. The university is known for great school spirit and many fans support many sporting teams at Temple. Every year we have pep rallies for upcoming Temple games and other events to support the Temple athletes.

Campus Quality: The student life on campus is great. I enjoy visiting my friends' dorms and enjoy playing games. The people are nice and friendly. The Howard Gittis Center is an awesome place for students to hang out because there are student lounges, a game room, a cinema, a food court, organizations and fun activities to do.

Campus Quality: The academic programs at Temple are phenomenal. Although it depends on the professor teaching the programs, I know that many of the programs at the Fox School of Business, Boyer College of Music, and Tyler School of Art are great. The social scene is great too because many students hang out near the Temple Bell Tower and socialize in the Student Center. The campus facilities like the Paley Library, Technology Center, and the Howard Gittis Student Center is are always open for students to use. Temple also provides many scholarship, internships, and job opportunities for students as well.

Health & Safety: The safety and security on campus is great. Temple has emergency alert stations all over campus, where students can quickly contact the Temple police in case of an emergency. Additionally, there are campus police at every corner of the campus to maximize security among staff and students. There are security guards in every residential hall to ensure dorm safety. If there is any campus crime or off-campus crime near the university, campus safety services notifies all Temple students and staff through email. After the incident is cleared, they send out another email to inform everyone that the incident and location is cleared. The Temple police are friendly and respond quickly to any crimes, incidents and accidents.

Local Area: The atmosphere in Philadelphia is lively. There is always something to do in the city of Philadelphia. In this city, activities range from musicals, live concerts, art museums, trips to the zoo, sporting events, city tours, playing in the park of Rittenhouse Square and much more. The culture in Philadelphia is great because there is a mixture of tradition and modernity. We have a good balance of old buildings, new buildings, historical monuments, skyscrapers, and department stores. There are a huge variety of restaurants in Philadelphia including vegetarian and vegan options that I love so much. The shopping is great because there are many stores and markets you can go shopping for just about anything . There are a lot of area attractions, interactions, activities and events going on in Philadelphia. I am glad to have a school in this city.

Weather: The weather in Philadelphia is great. We normally have seasonal weather and Temple University do their best to accommodate space for students to hang out. Today, the University closed due to inclement weather, but the Howard Gittis Student Center remains open for students to wait for rides, relax in the student lounge, eat, play games, and socialize with others. During the summer, Temple Maintenance put out beach chairs on the grass for students to sit and enjoy the day. The local weather affects my campus experience immensely. Despite unfortunate weather and cancellation of classes, Temple keep some facilities accessible for students such as the Student Center, the Paley Library, and the Technology Center. Additionally, the university make the campus experience fun by providing fun activities for students to do in the fall, spring, summer and winter weather.

Campus Food: The food and dining options on campus is okay. Most of the dining halls have the same meal options every day and I get tired of eating the same thing. I am happy that the dining halls have vegetarian and vegan options because I am a vegan. I usually eat at Johnson and Hardwick Dining Hall. However, I heard the best place to eat is Morgan Hall because the quality of the food is amazing. Morgan Hall also has vegetarian and vegan options in which I will eat there some day. There are also a decent amount of food trucks on campus that people love. I wish the food trucks, and dining halls have more vegan options because I need variety. In regards to meal plans, I wish they were more flexible to food trucks and off-campus foods. Additionally, I wish the meal plans were more inexpensive.

Technology: There are a bunch of computer labs in each of the buildings on campus. It is not difficult to locate a computer and a printer somewhere near. The wireless network seems to always be available, but its really slow sometimes, but there are thousands of students using it, so I would not expect much less.

3 College Senior

Campus Housing: Personally, the worst of the items listed here is the housing process. I had a difficult time finding somewhere to live my freshman and sophomore years, but I am sure not everyone has had the same problems as I. The dorm furniture was new, but the buildings are older. The cost of things in Philadelphia are more expensive in general, not just around Temple.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Overall, Temple has its ups and downs, but students seem to love it all the same. On the downside, there can be some head-butts with tyrannical teachers, unfriendly cafeteria workers, and the always-frustrating financial aid office. Housing can cause an enormous hassle, and those commuting have to battle with parking or public transportation. Some people don’t feel as though they are prepared for the real world once they leave campus, but others say it’s been an incredible learning experience. Those students that love their experience at Temple all have their own reasons. Some love the atmosphere and found it to be a lot of fun. Others found it to be a great place to grow up and discover themselves. Lots of students take away more from living in a big city than they do from the University. But one thing it seems most students agree on is that the people at Temple University are what really make it a worthwhile experience.

In general, students coming to Temple have big expectations, from both the school and the city. Those that graduate either feel that Temple met their expectations, or if it didn’t, then it was their own fault for not pursuing more opportunities while they were there. Most students feel that Temple provides them with the opportunities that make their college experiences excellent—as long as they are willing to make use of them.
