3 College Freshman

Majors: Again, I have absolutely no idea about anything whatsoever.

2 College Freshman

Local Area: The locals scare me. A lot. As stated above, it's bad.

4 College Freshman

Party Scene: The parties are better here than at any of college party I've attended

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: I still need a lot more money. I received some but not nearly enough.

4 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Philly offers a lot of really great off-campus dining options, even if they're not all close to the school. However, there are plenty of food joints around campus for students to go to.

3 College Sophomore

Scholarships: I simply filled out the required FAFSA and other documentation needed to receive financial aid. I didn't really receive much but it is still an easy enough process similar to most schools.

4 College Sophomore

Majors: The film program is definitely great at Temple, but you need to take advantage of all of the opportunities handed to you, otherwise it isn't necessarily the best. I know plenty of classmates that skid by and barely do anything film related even though it's their major.

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Housing: I've only been living off-campus for a couple weeks and thus far it isn't awful. The freedom of having your own place is nice though the walk to class is a little longer, though not terribly so, especially depending on how many blocks away you are.

3 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: Campus Housing is pretty solid, though it depends on what building you end up in. Obviously, some are nicer than others and some are newer than others.

3 College Sophomore

Local Area: Temple is located in North Philadelphia, which isn't great. But the other parts of Philadelphia (South Philly, Center City, Boathouse Row, etc.) are all only a short ride away via public transportation.

5 College Sophomore

Campus Housing: I love the Temple campus housing, the location and the safety.

4 College Freshman

Majors: lots of internships available for all majors

4 College Freshman

Majors: Need a competitive GPA and extracurricular

4 College Freshman

Athletics: Great time at the football games

3 College Freshman

Local Area: Love campus but the surrounding area is not the best

3 College Freshman

Party Scene: too many people at one party

3 College Freshman

Campus Housing: Clean building but there are broken items in the dorm when we moved in

4 Recent Alumnus

Athletics: Temple basketball is very popular to the school and to the city of Philadelphia

3 Recent Alumnus

Administration: Pretty lenient as long as you don't do anything too crazy. Temple life is diverse and they want students to be able to have the freedom to express their views, but you also need to be respectful and follow the correct procedures.

5 Recent Alumnus

Off-Campus Dining: Temple has a lot of options for food... maybe even too many.

3 College Sophomore

Administration: My dorm is lovely but can be very restrictive

3 College Sophomore

Off-Campus Dining: Sometimes its hard to find a new place to eat

4 College Sophomore

Health & Safety: On campus its great..Off campus may be trouble

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Overall, Temple has its ups and downs, but students seem to love it all the same. On the downside, there can be some head-butts with tyrannical teachers, unfriendly cafeteria workers, and the always-frustrating financial aid office. Housing can cause an enormous hassle, and those commuting have to battle with parking or public transportation. Some people don’t feel as though they are prepared for the real world once they leave campus, but others say it’s been an incredible learning experience. Those students that love their experience at Temple all have their own reasons. Some love the atmosphere and found it to be a lot of fun. Others found it to be a great place to grow up and discover themselves. Lots of students take away more from living in a big city than they do from the University. But one thing it seems most students agree on is that the people at Temple University are what really make it a worthwhile experience.

In general, students coming to Temple have big expectations, from both the school and the city. Those that graduate either feel that Temple met their expectations, or if it didn’t, then it was their own fault for not pursuing more opportunities while they were there. Most students feel that Temple provides them with the opportunities that make their college experiences excellent—as long as they are willing to make use of them.
