3 College Sophomore

Party Scene: Temple is known for having decent parties, often at Frat houses or houses off campus.

Administration: Rules are rules - if you're smart you can get around most of them, and depending on who catches you, you can sometimes get off with a slap on the wrist or a lesser punishment than usual.

Campus Housing: On-Campus housing is a great option for students who want to live on campus. However, it is more expensive than other alternatives, and many find certain policies (alcohol, marijuana, guests) too restrictive.

Administration: Sometimes very difficult and will not work with the student

Scholarships: They never offer me any scholarships. Very difficult

4 College Freshman

Off-Campus Housing: There are a lot off housing fairs on campus and there are plenty of options

Off-Campus Dining: Off-campus dining is the city. Center city, south philly south street. It's endless

3 College Freshman

Party Scene: It ok. Frat houses and parties in general are really cramped

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: It can be a hassle but if you do it in time it will be ok

Campus Food: The staff can be very very rude.

Campus Housing: It's not the best but it's ok

Campus Food: Meal plan locations are terrible. Food trucks are great though, and a better value. So is the food court by the tech center.

Campus Housing: Liked temple towers, thought it was spacious and a very good deal, especially because it came with a full kitchen with lots of space. 1300 was not a good deal, it was very crowded, layout of bedrooms was not space efficient in some cases (was in a double suite, not apartment style), the thermostat didn't work and I hated that you couldn't manually unlock doors because I would routinely get locked out of my bedroom while in the bathroom.

Scholarships: It is the end of April and yet I am a returning student still awaiting my finical aid package. I submitted my fasfa on January 26th, yet the only feed back I get from Temple is that I need to submit my fasfa or it has not been processed yet. In addition they do not incorporate off campus housing on a tuition bill to ease the process of getting a loan, even though they do not have nearly enough on campus housing for students.

Campus Food: The food is absolutely terrible. Half the time you swipe into J&H and they hardly have any food out and you can't get your meal swipe back so you're stuck eating pizza and burgers that give you a terrible stomach ache. It is way too overpriced for the quality of food we receive and next to impossible to eat a meal without having a stomach ache after.

Campus Housing: Some dorms on this campus can be nice, I unfortunately got put in the oldest building on campus that is still in operation. The security is relatively tight, which is appropriate because we are in a high crime rate area. The cost is not worth the living conditions it is $7000 and we deal daily with uncleanliness, bugs, not functioning heat/ air conditioning. The housing process is difficult and not guaranteed even for freshmen.

Campus Food: There are so many options that even went I want to comnplain I don't let myself. J&H sucks. Morgan is really good. The sac is good for lunch. The worst part about it is the staff-- they aren't very nice.

3 College Freshman

Scholarships: It's not that hard to get a scholarship from temple.

Off-Campus Housing: There are always apartments available for rent or sublet. Doesn't matter if you're one person or 5 people. You want to stay as close as you can to campus for safety reasons but the prices go up a lot the closer you get.

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: I usually end up going to the pizza place a block away from me. They're open super late night on the weekends too!

3 College Junior

Administration: They aren't strict about much from my stand point. If you get enough underage's you could get kicked out, however cops don't usually give many out they just tell everyone to go home.

4 College Junior

Party Scene: There is always a party somewhere on campus no matter the day of the week. Someone is always turning 21 or having a birthday so there will always be a celebration. But most of the time people just have parties because they can.

Scholarships: The financial aid office does not know what they are doing and the line is always extremely long.

4 College Junior

Campus Food: Because it is a city school, there are around 30 food trucks and many restaurants to eat at.

Campus Housing: I do not, nor have I ever lived in campus housing. Strictly because of the price. I live in an off campus apartment because it is cheaper for me.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Overall, Temple has its ups and downs, but students seem to love it all the same. On the downside, there can be some head-butts with tyrannical teachers, unfriendly cafeteria workers, and the always-frustrating financial aid office. Housing can cause an enormous hassle, and those commuting have to battle with parking or public transportation. Some people don’t feel as though they are prepared for the real world once they leave campus, but others say it’s been an incredible learning experience. Those students that love their experience at Temple all have their own reasons. Some love the atmosphere and found it to be a lot of fun. Others found it to be a great place to grow up and discover themselves. Lots of students take away more from living in a big city than they do from the University. But one thing it seems most students agree on is that the people at Temple University are what really make it a worthwhile experience.

In general, students coming to Temple have big expectations, from both the school and the city. Those that graduate either feel that Temple met their expectations, or if it didn’t, then it was their own fault for not pursuing more opportunities while they were there. Most students feel that Temple provides them with the opportunities that make their college experiences excellent—as long as they are willing to make use of them.
