Campus Housing: The renovations and redevelopment of dorm facilities is bringing a better and more cleanly experience. I live in Morgan Hall which was built in 2013. The dorm is a modern take on dorm living. Compared to last year, I enjoyed my time at Morgan Hall. I would prefer to live in an apartment next year.

Weather: The weather is too brutally cold in the winter. I am from Atlanta, GA. The drastic difference in temperatures is almost unbearable at times. Each year, I adjust better, but I sure do miss those warm and sunny days in the south.

Transportation: The transit system in Philadelphia is pretty simple. It takes 5 minutes from my dorm to the train station. The most convenient of all is traveling to and from the airport without having to take a car or taxi. There is very minimal stress when it comes to traveling in Philadelphia. You can get around almost anywhere one needs to travel. Philadelphia is a great city.

Drug Safety: At Temple University, one has the option to partake in drug use or stay the straight and narrow. Life has not been overwhelming in this department of influence. If one focuses on their education, it is easy to skip this wrong avenue of life.

Academics: Academics offered at Temple University is diverse and a great cultural experience. My professors have been very inspirational and provide real world topics to address their coursework. Many of my professors have become a mentor to me. I am able to get recommendations and references from my professors due to the teacher student relationships that have been built. The guide that the professors at Temple University offer will go a long way for my future.

Health & Safety: Temple is located in a very terrible neighbor. Many of my friends who lives in an apartment have their apartment broken into. People gets shots and robbed here and there.

2 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: There are bars and some restaurant around the place but I do not dine much at campus.

3 College Junior

Greek Life: I do not really have any association with them nor do I know much about them.

2 College Junior

Technology: There were many times the printer was broken and I could not print. You cannot get wireless access everywhere. Computer lab for my major were scarce and during busy hours, it is very hard to get a computer.

3 College Junior

Majors: I have not have one yet. Therefore I cannot comment on this. I will be taking internship next semester because, my program controls my class schedule. It is very inconvenient.

Majors: No, I wanted to switch major but it is too late. I did not like the teachers, I did not like the materials I am learning.

2 College Junior

Scholarships: Half of the times, I do not even understand the funds I am getting and the funds I am not getting. Because I became a part time this semester, some of the funds are cut off. Also, since this is my fifth year in college, one of the state grant is not applicable to me anymore, so I had financial issues this semester.

2 College Junior

Administration: Attendance and lateness policy are very strict in my program. You can get points taken off your final grade for some classes.

3 College Junior

Athletics: It is not of my interest and I do not really follow them.

Academics: I hate my program, Health Information Management. It is very small, even though it is a growing major. The curriculum is set and if you cannot pass the class with a 73, you have to retake the class, but the worse part is that it is only offer once a year, therefore your schedule will be messed up. Many of the classes seems repetitive, I learned about the same material over and over again.

Transportation: Philadelphia is not the safest city, therefore it is quite dangerous taking the public transportation. For me, it takes me roughly over an hour to get to school, whereas by car, less than 30 minutes. The cost of public transportation adds up and can be costly because I need transfer to get to and from school.

Drug Safety: I know people do it and take part in it, but they do not do it out in the open.

Health & Safety: North Philly is not much of a safe place. but walking with groups at night is pretty safe on campus.

Party Scene: Nightlife is great! you will never be bored. There's always someone having a party on campus or something to do in the city with friends. To get the most out of the city nightlife you often have to be 21.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Overall, Temple has its ups and downs, but students seem to love it all the same. On the downside, there can be some head-butts with tyrannical teachers, unfriendly cafeteria workers, and the always-frustrating financial aid office. Housing can cause an enormous hassle, and those commuting have to battle with parking or public transportation. Some people don’t feel as though they are prepared for the real world once they leave campus, but others say it’s been an incredible learning experience. Those students that love their experience at Temple all have their own reasons. Some love the atmosphere and found it to be a lot of fun. Others found it to be a great place to grow up and discover themselves. Lots of students take away more from living in a big city than they do from the University. But one thing it seems most students agree on is that the people at Temple University are what really make it a worthwhile experience.

In general, students coming to Temple have big expectations, from both the school and the city. Those that graduate either feel that Temple met their expectations, or if it didn’t, then it was their own fault for not pursuing more opportunities while they were there. Most students feel that Temple provides them with the opportunities that make their college experiences excellent—as long as they are willing to make use of them.
