4 College Freshman

Campus Quality: Great student center and classrooms.

4 College Freshman

Drug Safety: Nobody forces you, but it's there

4 College Junior

Technology: the internet is good if you are wired but if you use wireless it can have its glitches.

4 College Junior

Party Scene: the parties are loud and enjoyable

3 College Junior

Guys & Girls: there are some people that friendly and some that are not pleasant, but that's everywhere in the world.

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Housing: temple tries to help students find off-campus housing by hosting workshops but these events are held about once a month.

4 College Junior

Scholarships: its good but if you try to contact the financial aid office by phone, it may take sometime to get a representative

5 College Junior

Campus Quality: the buildings are well maintenance, fairly new, and great employees

5 College Junior

Campus Quality: there are plenty of activities to do on the campus and the city is also full of exciting things

5 College Junior

Diversity: my school is very open to opinion

4 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: it gives you the freedom that dorms do not, and some off-campus apartments may be cheaper then living on-campus. the campus police, however may not be able to get to you.

3 College Junior

Administration: the alcohol policy is strict especially on homecoming and other school events. drugs are banded but cigarets are allowed and other smoke products.

Campus Quality: The facilities available of social life on campus are pretty efficient. The student center is a beautiful building, buery beach also provides a great area for students to freely spend time with each other. My suggestions would be to expand on outdoor space for the social scene of college life.

4 College Junior

Campus Quality: It is a diverse campus with some beautiful green areas. I would recommend more outdoor spaces similar to beury beach or founders park.

3 College Junior

Parking: Parking mainly depends upon availability off campus. For example, on the street I live parking is free and usually spacious. However, in most other areas parking is either unavailable based on permits or full.

3 College Junior

Campus Housing: The main issue I have with campus housing is the strictness of visitation policies

Athletics: I am not an athletic student and my rating would do a disservice to those who participate and are more informed than I.

College Junior

Guys & Girls: A students appearance is almost irrelevant, but I would describe the population as diverse. There are a plethora of different students, with different interests that can conform to most students interests. There appears to be someone for everyone at Temple. Social life is difficult freshman year because of the strict housing visitation rules. Because you may only have one person over night and three people signed in at a time, gathering friends together that all live in separate dorms is almost impossible.

3 College Junior

Off-Campus Dining: The three 711s now on campus illustrate my main frustration with the dining options; all coporate and not diverse enough.

4 College Junior

Party Scene: I spend the majority of my nightlife at friends homes, attending basement shows (local bands perform in basements that host shows for them), art galleries, or the occasional house party. I have not attended bars or clubs, greek parties are tasteless (what do you expect though, really). Transportation is unacceptable in that 1, subways stop running after midnight, and 2, police officers REFUSE to escort drunk students in need of transport back to their dorms/apartments. While I recognize the ladder as a police issue, it is to be noted and perhaps brought up to the local law enforcement.

Greek Life: The greek life at Temple University that I have witnessed is alcohol/drug induced and is not closely related to the positive community attributes it should be. The houses are constantly polluting the surrounding sidewalks and streets with garbage and crude noise. While I greatly appreciate the money and time paid doing volunteer work by the Greeks, I am dissapointed by many of them based on their inability to continue this kindness outside of their greek duties.

Off-Campus Housing: My experience with off campus housing has been exceptionally mixed. While it was not difficult for me to find off campus housing, I was displeased with my landlord, frustrated by high heating and air conditioning costs, and aggravated by high costs of local corporate food/health businesses. Proximity to campus and public transportation are the more redeeming qualities. I have also felt safe for the most part while living off campus, and have been fortunate enough to not have had any incidents.

Parking: Parking on the street can be tricky but if you get there early enough you should find a spot

5 College Senior

Overall Experience: I have not had any bad experiences while attending Temple, but North Philadelphia can be dangerous. Just be aware of your surroundings at all times and you'll be fine.

5 College Senior

Transportation: Campus is located right next to the subway and has many bus routes available. Everything on campus is within ten minutes walking distance though.

Overall ExperienceWhat's this?

View student contributors

Overall, Temple has its ups and downs, but students seem to love it all the same. On the downside, there can be some head-butts with tyrannical teachers, unfriendly cafeteria workers, and the always-frustrating financial aid office. Housing can cause an enormous hassle, and those commuting have to battle with parking or public transportation. Some people don’t feel as though they are prepared for the real world once they leave campus, but others say it’s been an incredible learning experience. Those students that love their experience at Temple all have their own reasons. Some love the atmosphere and found it to be a lot of fun. Others found it to be a great place to grow up and discover themselves. Lots of students take away more from living in a big city than they do from the University. But one thing it seems most students agree on is that the people at Temple University are what really make it a worthwhile experience.

In general, students coming to Temple have big expectations, from both the school and the city. Those that graduate either feel that Temple met their expectations, or if it didn’t, then it was their own fault for not pursuing more opportunities while they were there. Most students feel that Temple provides them with the opportunities that make their college experiences excellent—as long as they are willing to make use of them.
